Would have been better if you could compare the same scene and lighting style in cycles so we could see the differences in rendered output and time
@daneues94

I am an art professional and a freelancer- this render engine is incredible and very, very fast. It takes time to get used to and here are a couple things to keep in mind for 2.8: 1- Samples are set differently in the render settings. Experiment with the noise threshold and especially the sample/view update. You can save huge amounts of time by setting the view update to your final output since it stops your GPU for every screen update to generate the image (I learned this after watching my GPUs and CPU closely during renders). Don't use tiled renders. I found that Tiled is far slower. 2- When changing settings for your environment, refresh the viewer by switching between non-render and rendered view. 3- Mapping is best using UV. It seems to have trouble using the Object and Generated input data. 4- Bump up the Max Ray Depth sliders on final output. 5- As of 7/28/19, CPU renders will show errors in your final render. You might not see them, but they leave small black NAN values which will mess up your comp in other programs. 6- Lighting works pretty differently- does not appear to be able to use IES textures yet. Limit the use of area lights especially in arch-viz. 7- Make the jump to this engine... it's reallllly worth it. Comp Specs: i9-9900k AMD Radeon VII GTX 1070 32GB RAM

Hmm so if I used it should I basically use it to replace cycles or are they different beasts like evee vs cycles?
@daneues94
@daneues94 5 жыл бұрын
yesfull man I would use Cycles or Eevee to test your materials or textures, Bake out your textures, set general lighting, HDRI then use Radeon Prorender to do a final render. Prorender is a little finicky right now as it’s still being developed for 2.8. The way it renders is a bit different and currently the node structure is not a 1/1 match (certain texture nodes for example will altogether crash Blender/Prorender). If you are doing raytracing animation renders or super high resolution raytracing renders, then I would say Radeon Prorender is worth a shot. If you want to also save a lot of time, look up how to do command prompt rendering.

Adding a light for the eyes to reflect is a standard technique used in real-world cinematography as well, called a catch light or eye light. When there's a decent amount of light in a movie scene, and there's no reflection/highlight in the eyes of a character, the movie is usually trying to tell you something about that character.
@ErebosGR

He positioned the ring light quite oddly. For portraits, the ring light usually goes around the lens, not to the side and definitely not to the opposite side of the key light.
@dudepersonvids

Yeah, I was surprised when he chose to make a ring light and position it that way. He mentioned he couldn't remember what the term was for adding a light specifically for the eyes - a ring light is an odd choice for specifically that purpose, unless you want to emphasize some kind of alien look... and even then it's usually from the same position as the camera.

I did that...chose the folder, that being Applications, in which Blender was installed, and that did not work. 1000 watt PSU, no overclock on an 1800x, Asus Crosshair Hero VI MB. Before going into service, I ran stress tests including MemTest86 over a two day period with no crashing or memory errors. The only time the rig started to have issues was when the 9100 was installed. Previously, a 980ti was in the rig running three 1080p monitors. When the 9100 came, I hooked up 3-4k panels. Nothing but trouble since. I've been working with AMD for almost a year now and they have no idea why the problems I have exist. They set up an identical rig to mine and had no issues. I have both pro and gaming drivers installed due to various workflow applications. Ali (Radeon Canada division) was doing a screen share with me. We have done multiple clean uninstalled using DDU Uninstaller and the AMD Clean Uninstaller. Even went into the REGAPPS to make sure nothing was floating around. Install the pro drivers no problem. Install the gaming drivers and it fails usually once or twice. So, we have to start the process over again. We got it to stick during our last screen share and the machine was shut down for the night. When I powered up the next day .... driver access was simply gone! Like I said, AMD has no idea why the 9100 is acting this way on my setup. They've told me they have "never" seen this issue or have had anyone else report these issues.

hahaha ok i know the crux probably. you did not correctly unsinstall the nvidia drivers. they bite even after uninstalling them when you add amd hardware - i cant think of this as an accident since its a problem sicne many years now. i had exactly the same thing and also tought the card was faulty at first until i swapped the hd with a clean install - and no issues there anymore. After cleaning up the leftovers from the nvidia driver on the old hddsys issues were gone. it took some fiddling tho - theres also some reg values that need to be cleaned after ( ccleaner can fix that for you ). i suspect some shady practices there. Issue ( with bsod sometimes ) persists if you had the nvidia drivers installed then install the amd drivers without purging the nvidia drivers first. If thats done once you even can install nvidia drivers again and mix both cards freely and theres no issues anymore. but if you swap one for the other you may think amd is crap - no its actually the nv driver.

Nope. Ended up building another machine from scratch and same issues were there. Never had an Nvidia card in the second system. The second system has second gen Ryzen 2600X and 400 series MB. AMD and I have spend at least 10 hours on screen sharing to troubleshoot. They have seen everything, even when the machines would crash and still have no answers. According to their specs and power draw, a 750 watt PSU is all that is required. The original system running the 980ti (which drew more power than the 9100) was stable. It has something to do with their software/drivers. No reason for driver access to disappear like that. Been running an Nvidia P4000 with no issues in the original machine. I dig AMD but they have a lot of work to do with graphics still. The one thing that did impress me was AMD agreed to give me one of the next gen 9100's when they come out. Maybe 2019 or 2020 though. They recognize there is an issue but have no answer - yet. So, I have an unused system until that time. As a one man engineering shop, that kind of hit hurt and they recognized that which is why they were willing to offer up a free card.

its at least something. For me it was the mixed driver issue. Did you install all updates to windows before installing the drivers ?

I’m sorry mate but except if you are working mostly on premiere or video editing you have thrown a bag full of money to waste with the wx7100!!! For that kind of work the rx580 is faster and much, much chipper!!! I know from experience!!! ;)

Anyone know how to get ProRenderer to play nice with a GTX 1080? I'm getting a "Hardware check: fail ---> Unable to load OpenCL.DLL. You may need to update your graphics driver". My drivers are up to date so...

You only plug in one brand for the monitors. I used to use a RX480 for gaming and one of the 3.5gb 970s for rendering in blender.
