The far spike was adjusted so the ride could operate in rain. Before 2023, the train wasn't pulled up the entire backwards spike. To ensure the train didn't valley on the return run, the scorpion tail had booster tires. These could slip in rain. The modification allows the train to be pulled up the entire backwards spike and since it now goes up the scorpion tail higher, it can complete the return trip without the drive tire boost. I liked how bizarre the coaster was when I rode it. I loved the drop, crazy Gs, and hangtime.

@@CoasterStudios Swiss speaking here. I think what you said is definetly part of the reason why, many people just go skiing when they want to experinece an adrenaline rush. There are other things to add to this though too. Firstly, Europa-Park is so popular here. About 1.5 Million Swiss People visit the park annualy, which is, if you consider that the poulation of Switzerland is only 8 Millon, actually a crazily high number. The most poulated area of Switzerland is in the north, so cities like Basel (1h away) and Zürich (2h away) are pretty close. Another factor is that salaries and building costs (and living prices) are way higher in Switzerland than in all neighbouring countries. So building and operating a theme park that could compete with Europa-Parks dominance would be soooo expensive and would also be so pricey that many people would say "too expensive, ket's just go to Europa-Park (or sometimes Gardaland and Disneyland)"

5:48 I can tell you exactly why it was extended. Because they had some issues with the coaster valley-ing on the return leg after they installed the newest trains. So they added a little bit to the scorpion tail so the ride had enough momentum to get back to the station. Unless Im from a different dimension, thats the reason I remember the park giving.

2:30 Don't worry, even people who technically live closer to Conny Land have never been to the park but multiple times to Europapark. I’ve never ridden this but I did visit Conny Land in 2009 when they were advertising Cobra. It hadn’t opened yet, but I remember the park was small but charming. There were several small flat rides and a simulator (which felt like a parody of Star Tours) as well as an aquatic show. It was my first park outside of Florida and that factor excited me a bit. Of course, this park is incomparable to later European parks I’ve visited (Europa Park, Phantasialand, or even Heide Park).

The stinger should have twisted as the coaster goes up so you are upside right before reversing direction. Rides that keep you upside down for an extended period of time look way cooler than they feel. Ask my sister about our ride on a Geauga Lake Ferris wheel that had a brake to lock in the side car. It enabled you hold it for very slow forward and backward somersaults. Brutal on the shoulders but I could not resist doing so repeatedly.

Maybe if this was more spread out, built fully by intamin, and located at a different park, I'm positive that it'll do better and have a more positive outlook. I'm sure Cobra has its fans...but I think this can be considered a "One-and-done" coaster credit.

This ride is really what I can only call a General publics interpretation of what a coaster should be. Us enthusiasts of course love smooth but thrilling and enjoyable rides, but many in the general public have a weird twisted idea of whats supposed to be fun about roller coasters. I've met so many, especially in Europe, who think the thrill of rides comes from the roughness and pain and endurance of it, and that the "fun" comes from surviving something akin to a torture device and being able to conquer it, As if its an act of bravery and strength and a challenge for the body and soul to conquer rather than something to sit down and have a pleasant time on. I've met so many people like that who consider modern smooth coasters boring and tame but love and defend extremely rough and unpleasant rides like Goudurix. I feel like Cobra is a ride built for that kind of weird demographic. But said demographic also usually isnt the kind that always goes to theme parks in the first place.
@CoasterStudios2 ай бұрын
this is actually a really interesting point, and I have noticed that in the past as well. Not always- but it can be a common trend among some members of the general public.
