as someone who has tried the game and watched others play it. Let me tell you, the game is hard but in an intentional, relatively fair way. There will be times things will be fairly easy, others in which you will barely make it throught, a couple where not even your broken synergy will be enough to kill the boss in time, and some others you will have no choice but to take hits and lose companions to be able to survive. You will lose but in the majority of those times, you will understand how it happened, look back at the previous turns, and realize exactly where and when was the moment that turn the tables against you. The game feels decently balanced, maybe a few cards need small tweaks to make them more viable but other than that I have been enjoying this game so far. frustrating at times but still enjoyable

It's hard because there are so many options with positioning every single turn. Once you get used to that (pretend it's TFT and move your units every round) it gets easier.

I bought the game the day it came out. It’s incredibly fun and quite hard but not impossibly hard. I’ve snagged a couple wins now and it’s always felt great. Almost every loss I’ve had so far I could chalk up to being my fault rather than the game’s fault (tho some of my runs have been screwed over from bad rng). I’ve sunk so many hours into it within so few days that I’ve banned myself from playing it for the time being because I wasn’t getting anything done and my finals are around the corner XD

Honestly i considered buying it before but the reviews, it seemed hard, but bad hard you know? but after seeing Ross play yeah it seems hard but what can i say i like it when it's not just a breeze the whole time it makes it interesting to me, so thank you again Ross for putting holes in my wallet. I appreciate it.. obviously!

I've beaten the game once and here are the reasons I can see why people think it's hard. You can only play one card per turn and you hand doesn't auto refresh. You have to setup your field before focusing on the combat. Each unit is a card you have to spend a turn to place. Meanwhile the enemies are free to go in. You can misclick easily and use your attacks on your own units. There are also buffs that hurt you when they are applied. I've actually killed myself by forgetting that i had a unit that when triggered eats all allies in the same row and i forgot to move my leader ( run ends of leader dies). Sometimes it's also just hard to decipher what will happen when you trigger the next turn. And you might not realize that you might be dying on the next turn. Some units the game gives you are super squishy , die in one hit and their effects just seem so situational for them to be good. I also think people get disappointed with this game because the cards you play yourself just aren't that high impact that you feel like you are a god like in slay the spire pulling huge combos. You are more like a commander leading an army and helping them along. It's completely different gameplay flow from other rogue likes.

the difficulty jumped considerably on that king moko fight, can't tell if it's the rougelite thing where they don't want you to progress to quickly so it slaps a difficult fight earlier than normal or if it actually just ramps up that fast? either way looks like a cool take on the genre
@peterpeladon
@peterpeladon Жыл бұрын
King Moko is a bigger puzzle than most bosses, but he is normal and doable. Attacking him is scary, but it powers YOU up too, so you gotta carefully and quickly get your team superpowered in a better position than his, to take down his enormous health pool.

I feel like a lot of the bad reviews on this game are by people who played 456189498 hours on Slay the Spire and all its clones, are used to these games and win consistently on them, and went into this one expecting the same, but since this one has very different and unique mechanics that need you to get used to them they didn't win right away becaue they were playing it as if it was StS and got mad
@jonahallcorn
@jonahallcorn Жыл бұрын
I feel like this game gives the player plenty of opportunity to give you a good run every time you play. You just have to make proper decisions when picking paths on the map and choosing cards that build around a playstyle. Although some runs have poor RNG, most of them are very dependent on what you choose rather than what the game throws at you. Even if this game is hard, it doesn't punish you for losing. You simply start over with a new team and try something different. Hopefully the knowledge from previous runs will help you go further on your next one.

It looks hard but Ross definitely misplayed a lot. In that last 5 minutes if he’d given the damage buff to the healing sword and not washed it at the beginning of the round he might have won Edit: Giving the 8 damage situational card a plus 2 is a misplay in itself. The card is already overkill for most units so giving it extra damage is not needed.
@pa_3op
@pa_3op Жыл бұрын
Oh yes, didn't even watch to the end at +2 dmg on situational 8 dmg moment, just immediately went to comment. And yeah, that's backsitting at its finest, but boosting «vampiric damage» was, like, so obvious. This cards were even side by side to each other, so it's not that he forgot about it.

Can you imagine jumping into Binding of Isaac, Slay The Spire, Monster Train and just **winning** ALL OF THE FIRST RUNS YOU DO
@thomasdoncieu
@thomasdoncieu Жыл бұрын
I've read a bunch of the reviews, most of the actual criticism isn't the difficulty, but the over-reliance on RNG and the frustrating lack of agency you can regularly get. So not really difficulty, but balancing around the RNG. Definitely a fire marketing move by the devs to make it seem like the complaints don't count though
@RossBoomsocks
@RossBoomsocks Жыл бұрын
@@thomasdoncieu So it's weird, because definitely when you play Monster Train/Slay the spire it definitely feels like sometimes you can just get clapped by RNG as well, where the build you've spent 25 minutes building up is just 'countered' by a poorly timed encounter. This game I think is REALLY deceptively complex with knowing when to sack damage, having cards maybe outwith your build specifically to tech for certain situations, managing snow on things to make sure not too much damage is coming out at the same time and moving your party around and benching your party to heal when you get a chance. MAN the game IS hard but it's scratching my brain in so many of the right ways.

@@thomasdoncieu these dudes didn t try to win against delirium with the lost did they?
@ancientspark375
@ancientspark375 Жыл бұрын
@@thomasdoncieu The thing is that the RNG complaints ARE complaints about difficulty. In theory, the difference between RNG complaints and difficulty complaints are if the game kills you without any possibility of playing around their challenges. But if the ideas of playing around the challenges are there, but non-intuitive or difficult to see, then it's easy to blame RNG when the original complaint WAS challenge. Most of the negative reviews that I've seen that complain about RNG that actually describe their challenges can easily be solved with some personal adjustment (especially given *the most powerful anti-RNG mechanic in the game* (and possibly one of the strongest in any roguelike card ever), the redraw mechanic, just isn't used aggressively enough by most people since people are not trained to use it due to other card games and it doesn't feel good just from a newcomer point of view). People have demonstrated winstreaks on Wildfrost already. It's not that RNG.

I do not understand the people who say this game is hyper RNG reliant. I've lost rounds because my build didn't really come together but that's just the rogue lite experience. But the game tells you EXACTLY what is going to happen. You can plan moves super far ahead, you can freely move your team around to counter damage and deal maximum effect. I really don't understand what RNG people are mad about. I have WAY worse luck playing Slay the Spire or Darkest Dungeon.

The people who think this game is hard don’t pay attention, don’t know how to read, and don’t know how to do basic arithmetic. It’s all about optimizing unit placement, timing, and learning/understanding what the keywords are… that’s it, that’s all you need to know. Where to place your units, what your abilities are, and what your opponents abilities do and when. And it’s not like any of that is hard to understand in the first place… people just want to be handheld through everything, even these -so called- deck-building, rogue-like enthusiasts. Lol
