*Just to answer a few questions I've been getting that I didn't mention in the video: 1. I haven't been using a separate exfoliant lately. Having dry skin, exfoliants can cause even more dryness. I use them once in a while but not on an everyday basis. The products I'm using with rice water in them already mildly exfoliate, plus the snail mucin has glycolic acid which exfoliates as well. So I've found that I don't really need a separate product when these daily products are a mild way to keep my skin free of the dead cells. 2. I haven't been using a separate neck cream but I just use all of the steps on my neck as well as my face. I may have cut that part out of the video for time, but that's definitely part of my routine. 3. I haven't been using a vitamin C lately either because again the rice water toner and snail mucin as well as the Klairs Midnight Blue serum have brightening ingredients so I don't feel like I need a separate vitamin C. 4. I've added the makeup I'm wearing in the video to the description box.*

So you deleted my comment about zanthoxylum piperitum fruit extract (Szechuan pepper) in the Haru Haru products? OK, it's your channel. But I'm appalled that you're using and recommending these products.
@JenPhelps9 ай бұрын
@@20thcenturyrelicI didn't delete your comment, I even replied to it saying that it didn't bother my skin at all, even with that ingredient in there. I've noticed that KZbin has been finicky with comments lately and sometimes I can see them and other times they appear hidden...I'm not sure what's going on. Or it's possible another user reported it and it got removed that way. But anyway, I did some research on this ingredient and here's what I found: DERMAL IRRITATION AND SENSITIZATION STUDIES Human "Zanthoxylum piperitum extract The skin sensitization potential of 2% Zanthoxylum piperitum extract (super critical carbon dioxide extract; plant part not specified) in ethanol: diethyl phthalate (1:3 w/w) was evaluated in a human repeated-insult patch test (HRIPT) involving 110 subjects. 2 Two different samples of the test substance were tested on each subject. During induction, the test substance (on a 3.62 cm2 occlusive patch) was applied to the same location on the back of each subject 3 times per week for a total of 9 applications. Test sites were examined for dermal irritation at each visit prior to re-application of the test substance. Approximately 10 to 21 d after the final visit of the induction phase, the challenge phase was initiated. The test substance was applied for ~ 24 h to a new site on the back. Test sites were examined for signs of dermal irritation or sensitization. The test substance did not elicit skin irritation or sensitization during the challenge phase and was classified as a non-sensitizer." Apparently this ingredient is known for antioxidant and antimicrobial properties and is often used in Korean medicine. This is the article where I found this information. www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=www.cir-safety.org/sites/default/files/TR_ZanthoxylumPiperitum_062023.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjnoMvZppSEAxVOElkFHZJnD3cQFnoECBAQBg&usg=AOvVaw3EYG4X-kF0earhhdrvoTeo

I love when you post skincare! My best skincare tip for dry skin (learned from Dr Dray 5+ years ago) is to leave your face wet after cleansing and apply your skincare to it. Like, don’t towel dry your face at all. I have actual water droplets on my face when I apply the layers of toner, serum and moisturizer like you do. This just further seals in the water from evaporating and drying you out.

If you haven’t yet tried the Beauty of Joseon’s Revive Eye Serum with Ginseng + Retinal (.02%), it is worth a try. Retinal with the “a” is one step to tretnoin rather than retinol’s two steps, so it more effective at lower amounts. I have read that for many people, retinal is easier to tolerate than retinol, which was true for me. I used the BOJ eye serum all over my face to introduce retinal at a low level, now I use it in just my eye area, except upper eyelid where skin is so thin. I have moved slowly forward with an increased percentage of retinal on my face and neck without any reaction in the past year. **FYI, I have mature dry-normal skin living in the high desert with low humidity, I also have rosacea. I have moved to almost 100% Korean skincare including Korean and Japanese sunscreens, although I did not use skincare for decades. The improvements in my skin in the past few years are very visible and I attribute that to Korean skincare, especially the Korean sunscreen that helped me realize I could enjoy wearing sunscreen and made me want to try Korean skincare.

I don’t know if it is known to do all that, but I swear it has helped me in those areas 😊

@@EnvyBluMay I ask what other products you used to get such great results? Tret hasn’t worked any miracles for me but I’ve only been consistent with it for a few months.

@@EnvyBlu did you have any irritation around your eyes/eyelids with the tretinoin?

Tho collagen is too big to fit through the skin via regular creams, Tret definitely plumps the skin’s collagen in the face , but I too wonder how close to get it to the eyes.

In case you haven't tried it- I get the same effects as the COSRX Snail Mucin serum with their snail mucin moisturizer. I have really dry skin as well and I actually prefer the moisturizer over the serum. I feel like I can get away with just that for my skincare after cleansing and my skin loves it.

Our skincare regimen look very similar lol. Except I won’t go one evening without my Tretinoin lol. I LOVE the CosRX Snail Mucin essence. LOVE BOJ Sunscreen. I absolutely won’t go without a toner now either lol. Asian skincare is where it’s at. Western skincare totally sucks compared to Asian skincare lol

Thank you so much! I have really dry skin and could never figure out why none of the moisturizers I used never seemed to work. I started to try different products before my moisturizer and the dryness started to improve. I think this layering technique might be the magic trick I’ve been looking for! BTW your skin looks better now than 10 years ago!

Jen, if there's anything I can suggest...place all of your skincare products to the back of your hands after applying to your face. You may notice an improvement to your dry hands. I've been doing this for over a year now and I cannot believe the change. Make sure you apply your sunscreen as well.
@JenPhelps9 ай бұрын
I actually do this too! My hands wouldn't be so dry if I didn't wash them so often. I'm a germaphobe and in the winter with all of the germs going around I'm even more fanatical about it. So when I apply my excess skincare to my hands it doesn't last long before I'm washing it away again. Although in the summer I do notice that it makes more of a difference when I'm not washing quite as often. 🥰

Thank you for this video! It helps give me a regimen for in-between the retin A and hydroquinone. I am going to order a few of these products!! Really excited about the Klairs with EGF...the only ones i have found are super expensive and i do not want to spend $200+ on a serum that may not work for me. Great video!!!! ❤ Btw your skin is flawless!

Jen, an excellent eye cream with retinal is from Beauty of Joseon, it is called revive eye serum, it is encapsulated retinal. My favorite toner is the I'from rice toner, one of my favorite serums is from the Neogen brand and it is called azulene soothing peptide ampoule and my favorite vitamin C is the one from Cosrx, I buy the 13% one, but I have also used the 23% and it doesn't give me any reaction. I have mature skin that is 46 years old and dry, but I have tried a lot of things over the years and I use these now, along with other things, but those are very good 🥰 In fact, a Korean youtuber went to a test after 30 days using beauty of joseon's retinal cream and saw a significant improvement in the reduction of wrinkles, tone, barrier, texture, collagen and water retention in the skin. They saw her with technology on a specialized computer in clinic. 🥰

Just an FYI on growth factors. Do not use them if you have had skin cancer. My dermatologist said they can cause cells to multiply too fast resulting in more skin cancers.
@JenPhelps9 ай бұрын
I hadn't heard this so I looked it up and saw that while it is possible it's very unlikely, according to Dermatology Times. It said that the molecular weight of the growth factors is normally too large to penetrate that deep into the skin unless you're putting it on a wound. It also said that the growth factors in skin care are usually in a low concentration. Still it's a good thing to be aware of! www.dermatologytimes.com/view/the-growing-popularity-of-growth-factors

I have been adding and testing many K toners and essences jn the last six months; fermented rice, snail mucin, galactomytes and more. the snail mucin felt great on my skin, a sort of glassy hydration, but I cant attest to game changeing results. the rice toners are gently exfoliating, if you're sensitive to exfoliants, be conservative when you start. right now im on red algae essence and propolis/honey serum. the serum is the best. takes redness down right away, so calming. a wonderful product. overall, no downsides to K skincare. all the essences and toners feel great on skin, they hydrate and plump wonderfully. the prices are amazing and I've got confidence theyre good for sensitive skin because the industry is so much more advanced.

As far as I can see from looking at ingredients lists, there's nothing special about Korean skin care. They have just as many products with irritating ingredients like isopropyl alcohol, witch hazel, and/or fragrance. Or things like zanthoxylum piperitum fruit extract ( Szechuan pepper) which is in the Haru Haru cleanser and toner that Jen discussed in this video. I hate it when brands put things like this in products and hide them under botanical names! And the Korean brands aren't the only ones who do this.
@ecclestonsangel9 ай бұрын
Hi, Jen! I've been using Korean skin care and didn't realize it! I have combination skin, so my skin care changes according to the seasons. My skin tends to be rather dry in winter, so I like using Purlisse Blue Lotus 4 in 1 cleanser, as well as the Blue Lotus moisturizer. I did use toner when I was younger, but had always been told it was to remove any remnants of dirt, so I swiped it on my face with a cotton ball. My skin ended up feeling dry and tight, so I quit using it. Your suggestion makes a lot of sense, so I think I will try it. In winter, I like to use a paper mask with all sorts of hydrating ingredients, then, instead of a regular moisturizer, I use a face oil instead. It seems to keep my face hydrated all night. During summer, I tend to pare back my routine, as my face tends to get oily and sweaty. I like Ole Henrikson's Vit.C cleanser and serum. I use a moisturizer with sunscreen in it. I want to try the sunscreen you use. Do you use a body sunscreen? What do you like to use? Thanks tons for this vid!
@JenPhelps9 ай бұрын
It's possible that the toner you used to use had alcohol or witch hazel in it (many of them used to have that) and they can sting and dry out your skin. But a hydrating toner will plump up your skin and give it more moisture. :) For body sunscreen I used to use one from Australian Gold that I loved...it was a mineral formula and it's been discontinued so I'm on the hunt for a new one that I really love.
@20thcenturyrelic9 ай бұрын
@@JenPhelps Sadly, many toners still contain alcohol, witch hazel, and/or fragrance. (Clinique, I'm looking at you!) Some products are so poorly formulated that you might as well put cologne on your face.
