Always entertaining to see moments like 19:50 where a player spams "oooops" as if you blundered or don't know what you're doing, only for you to immediately eliminate two players and steamroll the board 😂. He played well overall but that moment was funny.

That question about "can money make one happy?" was a really great question. My take on money is that it can't make you happy, but it does give you more freedom and opportunity.

The question at the end reminds me of “into the wild”, happiness is when shared. You can have a huge house and a fleet of yachts, but if you have no one to come over or go sailing with you, it’s almost more depressing than having nothing and being alone.

On move three you decide to killguard the white player. I will never understand why you would kill guard anyone if you own half the board turn three behind a +7, it wastes like 3 troops you could use to protect a +7, for a 4 trade.

Money deff buys happiness, money buys time which you don't have to spend 60 hours a week at a job you hate just to get by, money buys the best healthcare, money buys more time at the gym so your healthier and able to to travel see the world and not have constant pain and smoke weed just to get through the pain, the people that say money doesn't buy happiness are the ones that don't have money.

Happiness is short lived. I think you seek joy. Joy can stem from appreciation, and appreciation from experiences. Learning to live with less and acquiring it later can give you both experience and appreciation and find joy in that which you have. At least, this is my personal experience over 40 years.
@killerm5

To that I would say that money doesn't buy happiness. You can buy things, you can do things, but that does not mean happiness. I think that the lack of money does mean you will be less happy on average. If you don't have enough for food or shelter, it is a definite hinderance to your happiness. So yes, having enough money to live will make you more happy because you lack less things, and might have time to be with your family (and not work 80h+ a week). But it is not a direct function (more money = more happiness). At some point, money has a very marginal effect on your happiness, and you can get lost with your money. Some people that have a lot and are not happy just start spending more and more thinking it will make them happier, but it is the wrong way to feel better.

Do you think we seek to belong but that many have mistaken belonging with fitting in? That in order to be part of ... we need x, y and z in the fitting in situation where instead if I have e, q and v and that's who I am, except me this way? The latter permits love and still allows for self growth where the first only promotes growth towards fitting in.
@TheKillPeteStrategy
@TheKillPeteStrategy 7 ай бұрын
The philosophical conversation about identity is a deep one. My take here is that ultimately there isn't much of a distinction between fitting in and belonging as a human. We are far more alike and interdependent with one another than we are separate and discrete individuals. Our culture and economy don't actually promote that so it's not always easy to see

Any reason not taking magenta’s capital at 11:05 ? I understand he is friendly but surely taking that 9 cap only strengthens your hold and entire position.
@thebigblob8851
@thebigblob8851 7 ай бұрын
After that turn he got +17 and made his 9 cap a 20. Taking the cap would’ve meant he only got +10 and no way of addressing you.
@TheKillPeteStrategy

Magenta was the key to my win here. They were fully enabling me. Having that cap guarding me allowed me to snowball and take the rest of the board. Fighting on multiple fronts is how these games stalemate. As long as they don't try to address me I win and they get second. If and when they try then I reposition. In this circumstance magenta is the last player I go agressive to.

The views you have most of the time i would say i agree with. However, the argument that 'money doesn't buy happiness' is to me a false statement used to make others feel better. Money in its self doesnt buy your happiness, but having the ability to do things that bring joy with such money is the objective. Although more money more problems is the case etc, the fundamental part of making money is to bring a life of prosper to your loved ones. For example, having the ability to make memories with loved ones by going on holidays or simply going to the theme parks is something that money can give. Even having the ability to walk into a shop with lets says a young family memeber and being able to provide for them if they wanted the sweets on the shelf gives you a feeling of happiness. In simple terms, money is a means to bring happiness through other avenues. Family and friends are by far more important in life than anything else, but the simple fact is money goes a long way in the world today and helps a lot when said family and friends need it.

Because money is a value of exchange, it is easy to have the mental shortcut of money=value, but that would be an error. The classic, often misquoted, "The _love_ of money is the root of all evil" or something close to that. It's a fundamental misevaluation of value (or a simple choice to value the immediate) that causes people to make choices that are clearly not beneficial to anyone on a human level. (Sure you can have your money, but if you are messed up inside you won't be a happy person)

I have invented a new term that needs to be shared. You guys ever play with a roomba? The money, always a weird theme. Money is important, but is useless without the meaning why. People normally forgot the origin of money....money is currency, used for trades....i give away something that i dont need to get something that i need. Money should be seen "a way to get things that you want", a momentary tools that you get and give along the way. As always, the most important step is know yourself, find what makes you happy, and make it a reallity.

I disagree Money can buy happiness for some people I believe the problem is most people don't know what they actually want.
@Stjernberg274
@Stjernberg274 7 ай бұрын
To challenge you on that one - I don't think money can buy happiness, but being poor can definitely inhibit you from being happy (if you don't have your basic needs covered). Money has positive but decreasing marginal utility (usefulness/happiness) as we economists like to call it - which means at some point the extra money won't actually be of that much use to you. Some studies even show that when you go beyond a certain level of wealth you become more unhappy. Like Pete said - the things start owning you, and your fear/stress of losing them will increase the wealth you obtain.
@dontmindme6995
@dontmindme6995 7 ай бұрын
@@Stjernberg274 I believe that up to that peak happiness money can buy you said happiness. I recently calculated that, without inflation and considering the stuff I'd inherit from my parents including a house, if I was to get a million bucks on hand right now (I'm 19 as I'm writing this) I'd be set for life. I'd be free to do whatever I want as long as I don't spend more than 1000 bucks a month. Even travelling every odd year would be possible if I was reasonable with my spending. That's one crazy thought isn't it. Up to that point tho I'm forced to work in order to sustain any living standard. That to me is reason enough to believe that happiness can (!) be bought
@Stjernberg274
@Stjernberg274 7 ай бұрын
@@dontmindme6995 That would definitely secure your basic needs were covered which would avoid the unhappiness that would cause. But even people who have all that can be unhappy. So the causality is not money -> happiness. It's poverty -> unhappiness, which is removed with wealth. Other factors then decide whether you will be happy - your values, preferences, the life you lead and especially how external factors impact you - sickness, accidents etc. for you, family and friends.
@dontmindme6995
@dontmindme6995 7 ай бұрын
@@Stjernberg274 oh yeah definetely I guess I wanted to stress that until basic needs are met and you can live your life without greater concerns, money can buy happiness. I think it's without question that upgrading your Tesla whenever a new model comes out probably won't bring you that sought after happiness
@RichardGeresGerbil
@RichardGeresGerbil 7 ай бұрын
@@Stjernberg274 you are assuming that people with money will just buy things they don't need. There are many other things you can do with money like spreading the wealth to family and friends and other people in need. My point is most people don't know what will make them happy so it doesn't necessarily mean giving them money would solve anything. A lot of people are naive and don't even know themselves.
