@@airsoft-explained-novritsch I remember seeing the thread about it, I personally think that it is good advice. If your goggles get damaged after a couple shots, then you probably got very cheap or low quality goggles. They're meant to be shot at, so if it can't handle being shot without damage, it is failing it's job. So the advice is fine, people just overreacted for some reason.

@Trzebiat3 ай бұрын
You're mistaken about glasses rated EN166F (like ESS Crossbow) meaning they failed the EN166B and EN166A tests. The EN166F is the highest rating any glasses can get because glasses don't go through the B and A impact tests at all so they can't get these ratings, this doesn't mean they failed the B and A test, they could as well pass those tests if they would go through them. The EN166B rating and test is exclusively for goggles and full face shields and it's the highest rating the goggles can get while the EN166A is exclusively reserved for full face shields only and it's the highest full face shields can get. If glasses have additionally MIL-PRF-32432 rating this means they already passed even more rigorous test and that's what matters, not the EN166F rating the glasses have (same with Z87+). Also, don't shoot your eyepro to test it.

@@Trzebiat Why not shoot your eye protection to see if its good? I have some ideas but i would like to know your take on it. Also do you have any suggestions on testing eye protection effectively to see if its really safe if you're unsure about the validity of the eye protections rating? Thank you.
@Trzebiat3 ай бұрын
@@vulcanforge4922 If you're unsure of the validity of the rating of the eyepro you shouldn't use it at. If it's properly rated it's safe. If it's not rated don't use it. We already have proper testing methods which result with eyepro getting their impact ratings.
@BorxFranker3 ай бұрын
@@vulcanforge4922 In my opinion if you are unsure dont buy it. Safe, rated eye pro from a reputed seller is not that expensive. There is a reason there are all these ratings. You cannot effectively test them yourself at home. So either they have rating you trust so no reason to shoot them, just go and use them in a game; or you dont trust them and the DIY testing you may do at home is not going to solve that. Bad testing may not reveal the weakness on glasses so it just gives you false confidence on their safety. In short, dont do DIY safety rating, just buy it.
@vulcanforge49223 ай бұрын
@@BorxFranker Lets say the eye protection comes from a construction shop a pretty reputable construction shop, but its not super famous so its reputation only comes from a limited amount of people. Would testing it at home compromise the integrity of the eye protection leading it to not be suitable? because if not, testing it just for the sake of confidence and "better safe than sorry" doesnt seem to bad, mostly if you your self dont have 100% confidense in the product, but not to low of a confidense that you think its trash. In other words i think self testing eye protection doesnt hurt, because if it breaks then you know its bad, but if it holds then atleast you know that it can hold its own and the rating is true. Also thank you for the reply, it was very insightful and i hope we can both learn something out of this.

Thank you fro the video Josef! At our field in the US, we require a minimum of an ANSI 87.1+ Full Seal eye pro (we still get people trying to sneak past without full seal and have to watch closely!!!) for two reasons; Insurance, and more importantly, the safety of our players eyes! (They don't grow back, either!) I've never understood why anyone would cheap out on eye pro, or proper safety gear when riding motorcycles, but they do... We also require hard lower face protection on players under 18 years old, and highly encourage it on everyone else. It seems like about every three months, someone gets a tooth shot out (kinda expensive to repair!) and we even have the Novritsch mouthguards in stock. @djj10133 ай бұрын
My rule of thumb is if it has visible dents, cracks, warping or damage other then surface scratches, I replace the lense. If it gets shot 5 or more times at a range less then 10 ft, I replace the lense. If it gets shot 25 or more times at a range greater then 10 ft I replace the lense. And yes I keep track of impacts in a notebook after games. I might be over cautious, but I'm not about to lose an eye when it's easily preventable.
@opairsoft81003 ай бұрын
@@djj1013 your going to be replacing lens at that point almost every other game day if not every event. Quality Rated Lens can easily take 50 rounds point blank at 3J so at 1.5j or less you can easily get away with 100 rounds if not more from most distances of 25+ feet and the very small amount where it’s under 25. Like the amount of shots a average Dye mask takes for people who run them in indoor/speedqb areas are easily into the hundreds at anywhere from 1-1.5j at basically point blank range. Now if your running cheap AliExpress garbage that doesn’t have a rating, sure that might be viable, but there are other problems if that was the scenario

I use an UVEX 5503 which only states EN166 and no further classification. I've been shot in the eye by a DMR and not even a dent on the damn thing. But it is not 100% fool proof. While crawling on ground I had cases where foliage got under the glasses for example. On their own they hold poorly on my head. I had to add a bungee to the back so they do not move. But all-in-all they are really good. When I first took them for a game, we propped it up and shot it about 30 times with a regular AEG to check if they are OK or not. They are serving me well but yeah.

The problem, IMHO, is when, at very beginning of the video, you use the words "cheap and reliable" in the same sentence: as eye pro are _the most important_ piece of equipment, because, as you rightly said, eyes don't heal, in no way someone should use something cheap and subpar. In a world where 99% of us spend a big amount of cash in useless items (mostly very eye catchy and tacticool, but useless none the less 😆), maybe it would be better to spend less in trinckets and more on what's really important. My 2 cents. (PS: personally, albeit being an italian, where ASGs must not be over 1J, I use Oakley SI Shocktube, which have a ANSI-Z87.1 certified lenses)
@skywardsoul11783 ай бұрын
Absolutely agree. You always have to account for sheisters using hot guns and worst case scenarios also. The first big purchase should be high quality eye pro, rather than an expensive replica. It's, as you said, not as eye catching and tacticool though, thus many people overlook it. Also frequently overlooked is that having an eyepro solution that constantly fogs, you can't really enjoy the game. You can also get mil-surp eyepro for a much reduced price, even new.

Putting an edit at the top of this comment since the video was edited and the context was lost: Video suggested that you can test if eyepro is safe by shooting it yourself. You can't. You simply cannot. You shooting it can only proof that it is resistant to THAT shot. You might not get so lucky next time when someone fumbles the trigger on their sniper when you walk out of spawn. Or you might have caused small invisible cracks hidden by the frame. That's why we use eyepro that's rated for SO MUCH MORE than airsoft can ever inflict. #3 "shoot your own eye protection" DO NOT DO THIS. This is not a safety test, at best you learn exactly nothing, at worst you invisibly damage your eye protection but decide to trust it after it survived your shot. This is genuinely dangerous advice and you should take the video down for including it.
