I’m so glad Eskimo is still crossing oceans! I sailed her from Australia to South Africa just over 20 years ago, when I was about the same age as this young woman. I was pregnant for that crossing, and my daughter was born in Knysna. I was sad to see Eskimo sold a few years later after I had returned to Canada with my daughter. But seeing this video has made me so happy to see that Eskimo is still doing what she does best! I hope you have many more voyages with her!❤

I remember that boat from Knysna, South Africa about 20 years ago. She belonged to an old dude who had a very attractive young lady. They had a baby while in Knysna. After they departed, I bought the mooring slip which they had been using. She was really well maintained. I great sea boat! Good luck! What a story!

Beautiful, courageous young woman! Very inspiring! I have sailed, with my wife (who has lived and farmed in Quebec), from Panama to Australia, and along the way met many cruising sailors, a few of them single-handers. It is a wonderful life. Congratulations! I know what it is like, out there, but on our boat there was always someone on watch while the other slept. Captain Joshua Slocum was my inspiration, the world’s first solo around-the-world sailor. Bravo!! (And deliciously filmed!) ❤😂❤️

I think that Claire was lulled in a little corner of her mind by the story of Jessica Watson, 17 years old, who sailed around the world solo on her 10m boat Ella's Pink Lady......if we add the thousands of Nm traveled on various boats since early childhood, the need for this experience is an outcome, a personal confrontation with the ocean to write the rest of one's adventures.....and the present demonstrates it

@louiss3409 oooph, mate. That’s a harsh operation. I worked in theatre for a bit. Man… Maybe jump aboard as crew and take it easy with no responsibility. Anyhow, I will shut up now, you know where you are with this. As for the electrics, nope. Not a clue. Our plan is to build her as light as we can, to try and build her powered by electric and ideally do that without a generator. So efficiency is everything here. I think we are in the middle of a tech apocalypse and what we’re used to seeing from the big players may not be the way we go. It’s so refreshing to see someone that chooses a boat built to handle rough seas and ocean debris. Your background in sailing and past knowledgeable comes immediately into play by this choice. KZbin is now populated of midlife crisis naive adventurers that cross oceans on accidents waiting to happen.

Yeah his first wifee gave up on him. Sad story at the end there in losing his boat and then passing on from cancer a number of years later. You know back in his day they didn't have GFS or ECMWF to track weather and onboard computers with SAT communications. Yeah this guy used a sextant.

We’ve managed a little on Instagram but even that is hard - we’ve got the two of us hard at it for 12 hours a day!!

When it is a female, all of a sudden the whole interview steers to her feelings. I want to hear about the preparations, provisioning, technical and navigational challenges, etc. Nevertheless, good work skipper!

She did good aye! For sure, there’s loads on this but we were more inspired by her attitude - it’s a rarity and awesome. Maybe being a boat builder, I get a bit bored of prep and all the rest and she set off with not much at all which really inspired me.
