I too originally went for the smaller model for it’s lighter weight thinking “I’m backpacking, a few extra minutes wont matter that much.” What I failed to realize is that I would be standing there squeezing a bag for several minutes WHILE being bombarded by mosquitoes. The faster purifier is totally worth a few extra ounces.

Couldn't agree more, I had the same thought at home but you don't think about the bugs or weather rolling in on you. Flow rate is everything.

NIce test. Thanks. I assume both were brand new filters?

I had used them both in that stream the day before for a few liters each, but otherwise brand new filters for the test.

Pick either. Set it up as a gravity system. Go sit on that rock over there and enjoy where you are.

Now this is a plan I can get behind 👍

I find it hilarious that someone can't carry an extra few ounces. Even3 to five pounds pounds is not going to kill you if your body is prepared. Practice with a little extra weight each time more often. I carry a MSR pump filter and filter that water in about 2 minutes. and it's maybe 8 ounces more in pack...oh the horror. Look at the skinny ass Sherpas on Everest that carry all that gear AT ELEVATION, are they bitching about a few extra ounces? Every hike I go on I have about 20 pounds in my pack. At least one hike a week I take 35 pounds. At least once a month I carry 45 pounds in my big pack. It's called conditioning. The ultralight soft generation...maybe use your underwear to filter the water, that will save weight and clean your drawers at the same time!
