Take a look at the insane practical effects from the 1994 kid's classic, The Flintstones.
What is The Flintstones (1994) about?
Make way for the modern Stone Age family as they make the jump from animated favorites to live-action heroes! There's trouble brewing in Bedrock: a test mix-up has made Fred Flintstone (John Goodman) a vice president at Slate & Company, and now an evil executive (Kyle MacLachlan) and his sinister secretary (Halle Berry) are plotting to use Fred as the fall guy in an embezzlement scheme. Luckily for Fred, his best friend Barney Rubble (Rick Moranis), wife Wilma (Elizabeth Perkins) and her best friend Betty (Rosie O'Donnell) always have the big guy's back in this yabba-dabba-doo of an adventure! Elizabeth Taylor co-stars in the "Steven Spielrock" production filled with dino-sized special effects and classic Flintstones humor.

As awkward as this this movie could be, real heart went into its production.

Enjoyed this as a kid. A real attempt of a cartoon adaptation without any sort of concession of the original characters. And of course the comical foolishness that made the Flintstones funny for kids and humorous for adults.

@@Mio248 Yeah, it's no more awkward than the cartoon honestly, and I'm glad unlike most "modern adaptations," they tried to keep it a family comedy (even had actual sitcom writers work on it, to give it that feel of a TV sitcom) with some occasional cartoony jokes. (Like the dinosaurs remarks.)

@beauwalker9820
@beauwalker9820 2 ай бұрын
@@professorchaos5058I don't understand the demonization/accusation of potential customers strategy. It never works, and turns most customers off. The media has done that since 2016 with the controversial all-female Ghostbusters reboot. They tried to accuse fans of, "you all hate it, because it has women in it, you must hate women" as a cheap deflection against criticism, but it didn't work. So honestly the entertainment industry needs to stop demonizing it's own customers. Yes, some bad fans exist, and "bigoted" ones, I won't deny, but when you label most or all older fans/customers as such, or brag how your new adaptation will upset "old fans," don't complain if it fails... It's sad when the best modern adaptations are based on Sonic the Hedgehog.

after watching a behind the scenes about this movie, its very sad Goodman apparently didn't like the idea of being Fred, he only did the part as a favour for Spielberg but told him he immediately wanted out after this movie to avoid being typecasted hence the idea of doing the sequel as a prequel so they could cast new "younger" actors...but any chance for live action flintstones continuing literally went extinct when Goodman walked out...

@@chutindrachodi4764 I just said it, type casting concerns, he just didn't like the idea of being known as a cartoon caveman and he personally told Spielberg he wanted out and didn't want to do it again, sadly in interviews at the time when he talked about the movie or the merchandise with his likeness you can kinda see the reluctance in his voice, just because an actor plays a character perfectly doesn't mean they like it like say Harrison Ford and Han Solo

So here's what I don't get... that whole aptitude test was designed to pick the "fall guy" for Cliff's scheme. Why would he choose the smartest employee for that role and not the dumbest? A smart, sharp employee would have seen through his scam. In that way, the plot would have made a lot more sense if Barney didn't switch the tests and Fred just got picked because he WAS the dumbest and most likely to be swindled and manipulated. Been awhile since I saw this in its entirety though.
