you know nothing about the time, nor the people living at the time, how they dressed etc. It just exists in your imagination, because of TV shows and movies like this. How can you say "it comes close to how it was back then" as if you lived there. Be aware that you believe it was like this, because of the imagery in the show. Sure there is some truth to it, but it's mixed with a lot of lies of what the directors chose to take as an expression of the historic times, sometimes from sources, sometimes from their own imagination.

@shannondavis36863 ай бұрын
@@jackjack4412he set himself up to die as a type of “Martyry”. Not for Christianity but for His People’s cause. When Ragnar came to power, the Scandinavian Tribes, had dozens of petty kingdoms and even more petty rulers calling themselves kings. Each with a different idea of how to become wealthy and powerful themselves, to the detriment of their neighbors. Ragnar tried uniting these tribes during his life, to be betrayed by those who saw gold and not the bigger picture. (In real life he wasn’t a farmer, but a prince, the son of Sigurd Hring, King of Western Geats/Svear/and Danes depending upon saga and year as it was a fluid situation that changed based on enemy actions and wars). As his father and family in the sagas were “Danes, with both Geatish and Svear blood”, that ruled over West Geats, Norse along Sweden’s west coast, and Danes of Scaneland. Their dynasty consolidated The Geats, Danes, and Norse from their Tribal Kingdoms, and others willing to aid their goals, into “Multi tribal Kingdoms” with common goals rather than betraying one another and taking each others lands and people. In the sagas, Ragnar’s family ruled at least 4 separate kingdoms. 1 of two Danish kingdoms, the Western Geats of The Gothenburg Region. And Norse, east of The Oslofjord. And The Western Svear. The show does not do a very good job at distinguishing the Geats, from Danes, Norse, and Svear. But anyway. As Ragnar carried familial and blood relations in all 3 of these kingdoms and their folk. His death was required to be avenged by all those who shared blood and kin. Take into account his massive fame at the time in the “Scandinavia World”. And the fact that those who participate in a “man’s avenging”, share in his fame and renown. And it becomes clear that his death was The Rallying Cry that United the various tribes and clans, into kingdoms with common goals. He gave his people a new enemy to fight against for Honor’s, Wealth’s, Fame’s and Revenge’s sake. He made himself a symbol to be avenged by any Honorable Warrior of their tribes. His sons went on to unite the various tribal armies into one Great Heathen Army. After the Great Heathen Arny invaded. The situation changed from yearly raids to permanent settlement. With which to use as a base of operations to push further into the lands from. These “Vikings”, soon became a part of the land and coalesced into The English.
