You mention a nickel receiver plays different, can you comment on what would be different? Response or efficiency differences? Would nickel be more desirable for commercial?

Good Day: To me the horn sounds very thin with the commercial mouthpiece--has a much fuller, richer, warmer play with the larger mouthpiece. Regards John.

Good Day; I'm a little disappointed, if you do not want a comment, do not ask for one. I did not hear either mouthpiece live, it just my opinion. I've been playiny cornets, trumpets and flugelhorns since I was 6 yrs old, I'm now 80 yrs. old, and still playing; and I still say the commercial mouthpiece to me sounded thin, this was and still is my own feeling. I am curious about good commercial trumpets. Is there one make and model of trumpet that has a strong reputation of being solely a commercial trumpet? As a musician un-educated in the nuances of trumpets, I am curious about this. I can hear why you think this is a great trumpet. I am kind of surprised it is not being added to your personal collection. I agree with you on the screw placement of the tunable bell. Any way, great sound on this and all trumpets you show case here on your channel. I thought I would ask about the commercial trumpets. I have been very curious about that for a long time. Keep up this channel and your shop. I have referred many, many trumpeters to your shop. Enjoy!!

Bill Chase (B6), Rick Baptist (B5), Mark Zauss (X4b) and Jon Faddis (his custom S43HD-L) are all known for using Schilke. I believe Ryan Kisor is also using an S42 for lead work with LCJO. Yamaha makes good stuff too (Wayne Bergeron and Bobby Shew endorse them) and Trent could probably give you names like Frank Greene who play Adams. The Shires BLW is decent too, and you can find people who use lightweight Bachs too.

One note - the HD Schilke is the only one on the above list to my knowledge that's heavy weight. The others are the opposite, lighter gauge than standard. I don't really consider myself a real lead player, I was mostly going to use this to play funk, but I like the efficiency of a medium bore and can't complain that it's efficient well above the staff along with everywhere else.

A lot of the really big corporation music stores that sell schilkes only sell the regular fixed Bell versions, but I was wondering about the tunable Bell version. Actually, now that you guys are an official schilke dealer, how much would you guys charge for this exact same horn brand new?

Some notes from the seller here - mainly that I do actually like the instrument a lot, but with a new baby arriving at the same time the trumpet did there wasn't much chance to use it. Like Trent says, if you like medium bore you'll probably like it: smaller bore means you get ease, agility, endurance, a pretty easy upper register. It rewards a precise, consistent approach to embouchure but isn't as friendly if you try to push more air through instead of being disciplined with your embouchure. With the heavy design, it has a rich sound even when cutting through a big band. The tuning bell adds a little weight, which warms it up compared to the fixed bell. (If I had gone fixed bell I would have probably chosen the broader #2 flare. Tuning bell also makes the slots feel more flexible to me, not a strong preference but I noticed.) The Faddis signature model would have had the round C-shaped tuning crook and weighted valve bottom caps. I A/B tested both at the Schilke showroom and just liked this setup best, but you could order those separately from Schilke. They'd also make you a #2 bell to fit too, with the tuning bell you could bring two trumpets to the same session if you wanted to multitrack or use a different bell for lead/solo/quintet. Cool to hear Trent play this thing the way it sounds in my head. Check out how crisp and easy articulation is all the way up above the staff - for players who can get the most out of a horn, this one really pays off.
