Im labbing this now. Whats happening is you are essentially buffering a layup during another animation. This appears to be giving the engine a wider pool of animations to select from for some reason. This quirk apparently can happen when buffering off of any move which can be helpful in a wider variety of situations. For bully guards i recommend doing it during strong handle animations. Especially the push off. I also like to do it off of hesis when running up court to avoid the awkwardness and angle changing nature of a random cross over. Some hesis dont kill a lot of momentum since it tends to trigger in the middle of the slow down rather than playing it out completely. Its not great for when defenders are in front of you tho. Finally, any layup direction works although obviously the animation pools are completely different so it may not be the best idea in general. But its fun to play with. Thanks for this tech! It really opened up new layers of depth for me to play with!!

Surprisingly I'm doing this since I came back playing last NBA2K23, I only use 1 layup before and it's Rose. But this 2 series, 24 & 25 they made it easier and more effectively smooth and the best part there are only 3 best layups for this exact activation. Maybe the reason why I'm used to this kind of moves is because I was a fan of Acrobat last NB2K14, and when I came back 23, it was still there and I thought everyone aware of it. If you remember me stating hidden moves last 23 & 24 this was exactly what I'm talking about. But Kudos to you Kevs by exposing it.

Wonderful to see you did the research. And just as you said using Real Player Percentage is as balanced as using any other risk rewards. The only difference is Real Player allows you so much room to perform even more overpowered layups and floaters despite heavy contact. I’ve been playing and experimenting a lot and realized I’m dominating with Real Player Percentage. First creating space with a dribble or pnr and launching into the layup makes it even more explosive. And Yes the badges are everything. I can just sit back and enjoy a great game of basketball without thinking too much 😂.

OMG, great find man. I get so many different animations doing this. It’s ridiculous! I have the Xbox series 2 controller so I can assign right stick up to the Y button where when I then assign shift to my left trigger and press it I get the right stick up with the Y button instead of having to use the actual right stick. I’m getting some insane animations that most of the time get by the defender. Most defenders in the REC have never seen these animations so they are left stunned.

This is another example of why I think this year's gameplay is so much worse than last year/previous years. So much nonsense that takes the control out of your hands and just plays the game for you. They overemphasized their Pro Play and "9000 new animations" and then act like taking control away from the player is a feature and not a bug.
@KevinCruz016Ай бұрын
I see it as no different from how contact dunks activate, except now, layups do it too. This is basically equivalent to contact dunks sucking you into animations - until there’s a way to model dynamic two player animations this is probably the solution for now.
@KevinCruz016Ай бұрын
PS Not a fan of 2p canned animations either but some of the dynamic finishes you get out of this don’t seem to be possible without having to resort to that. Hopefully the physics, contact, and movement engine evolve to that!
@matthewwilson1017Ай бұрын
@@KevinCruz016 Hm, yeah, except this isn't an explicitly explained mechanic like the contact dunks are. And activating a layup from the 3pt line isn't something anyone would reasonably expect to do without explicit instruction. I understand that once learned this is a tool you can use to your advantage. But in terms of designing a game, and relaying those designs to the players, 2k has failed miserably. As it stands, if someone were to stumble onto this layup method with no prior instruction they'd most likely not understand what they had done and then have no way to intentionally repeat it to practice and get better at it.
@matthewwilson1017Ай бұрын
@@KevinCruz016 Yeah, and this is where I guess these decisions just don't click for me as a player. I'd rather have more specific control and less intricate animations than to press something at the 3 point line and watch an unknown animation play out, regardless of how much more realistic it looked. Granted, maybe if I played more Play Now or other modes with real NBA players I'd be more interested in seeing those players move like their real world counterparts. But I pretty much only play Rec online. I want my guy to do what I put into the controller. And this year my guy does WAY too many things that I didn't input myself. It leads to a lot of frustrating moments in online gameplay for me. All of that said, I have mad respect for how deep you always dive into all of these animations and controls every year. Keep up the good work.
@KevinCruz016Ай бұрын
For me every time 2K implements a new mechanic year one, it's probably them testing out how to implement it as the tech and systems come along. Will be the first to admit this isn't ideal as far as sucking players into 2 player animations - but it allows for increased dynamism in layup animations and that rock-paper-scissors battle. Definitely needs some tweaks though

Got to use the right guy for this to work. The hints are there in the video, if the defense collapses then kick that ball out. Not that hard. I mean, if someone is defending the move consistently then throw in your counter or move on to the next move. The goal on offense is to create an advantage and force the defense to react. Its simple stuff
