NL’s content will always be niche. A minute into this video and he’s already referencing Dude Where’s My Car? The cross-section of people who want to watch another person play a video game and who appreciate NL’s banter and sense of humor is pretty small, IMO. It’s one of the things that makes his content great, he doesn’t pander to the lowest common denominator.

Place Zoltan crew members on engines, it isnt catastrophic when they need to leave that room. If you lose power on the weapons you lose the charge as well.

I wish they wouldn't set some of the ships crew and energy out from the start in a way that isn't optimal, it just seems like a noob trap that isn't very fun if you don't know why you're meant to start every run by moving your crew to better rooms

Zoltan crew are best on shields, because if you get 2 in there then you get a layer of shields that cannot be removed with ion :) .

So the DA-SR 12 as chat suggested is a meme ship. it's a total shot in the dark no matter how you play and largely relies on a lucky early game until you're able to find shields. The cloaking and the fact that the glaive beam is a mighty weapon is its saving grace and combined with a weapons pre-ignitor can carve through a ton of early game ships. The problem is that the glaive is so slow to fire, it has no shields meaning drones and rapid fire weapons can give you a bad time, and low power events or hazards like plasma storms, pirate hacking, and pulsars that can knock out your weapons are brutal to log through.

You know that the ship comes with long-ranged sensors right? In addition, many fights in FTL are optional so that you can assess your enemy before deciding whether to fight. Playing Stealth B is a lot more interesting than most other ships because it requires you to assess the situation rather than automatically fighting every ship or blinding jumping to beacons. Stealth B is indeed relatively luck based, it is also a very good ship and with good play to minimise risks you can win more often than not.

The biggest downside is the severe lack of scrap. Even after you get shields, you're so far behind the curve, it's still a gamble trying to survive. Drones that have beams or fire will still wreck you because your shields will still go down even if you have one level. I've made it with all three on hard. But it takes a lot of tries.

I played so much FTL when it first came out but this has got me back into it since checking out the game again caused me to find the Multiverse overhaul mod. It basically turns the game into the closest we'll get to an FTL 2.

@@miniclip1162 I don't know why ITB being fantastic (which it is, 100% achivements btw) has anything to do with them making an FTL 2. I'm pretty sure Subset games have even said they're not planning on it. Honestly though if you haven't already, check out the Multiverse mod for FTL. The Captain's edition is kinda dead and broken at this point but Multiverse basically takes inspiration from that and makes it even better.

I actually love this ship. You get to start with 2 super hard-to-find advantages, and all you give up is shields (which you replace early-game with Cloaking anyways), and every shop has like a 90% chance to have shields for sale if you haven't got them yet. My best run ever was actually in this ship; Flak II, Glaive, Weapon Pre-Igniter.

You should try out the Zoltan ship, it is very good. If you ever get spare zoltans put them in systems you want constantly powered, two zoltans can keep your shields on even if they're ioned.

I coincidentally had picked up FTL again several weeks before you did and suffered many losses before I changed up strategies. I would recommend not going over 2 layers of shields max, always take the piloting upgrades early since they give evasion for no power and don't cost much, pump points into your engines and keep powered, dodge is king especially with no shields or when using drones. I promise you will be shocked by how often enemy shots miss. Love the content.

Yeah. The game is balanced around sheilds and frankly, not having them sucks. You need to get lucky with this one. The changes to multiverse on the first sector make it much more survivable, if a bit samey.

Dude Glaive Beam Ship is my absolute favorite. That being said, Glaive Beam Ship is absolute trash. Having no shields what so ever and a "must 1hit KO" weapon makes early Zoltan ships complete run enders. Man I love that ship... Here are some tips if you ever go back to it -Get Cloaking 3 ASAP, scrap is PRECIOUS for this ship, screw those ships that offer fuel. S C R A P That's the hardest step, once you're there you will 1 shot everything without anything ever hitting you for a while.... or until the dreaded zoltan ships come by.. -If you can gather enough scrap for shields with 2 bars you are golden (yes for farming crew skill). The ship is so strong you can very well survive with 0 upgrades on anything after cloaking 3 (175~ scrap). Hope your crew likes breathing thin air :^) ..As for the rest you got the right idea, getting an easy way to clear shields before ships start having 3 shields is a must.. Hacking shields, Flak, Energy weapons, Mind controlling ship pilots for massive evasion drops.
