But do you think picking hard is really important ? For example you can volume up your amp and second you can use light strings. Picking hard on some gauges doesnt preffer your sound so much. So i guess there is not one solution to get your picking right. Just an Idea...

@keinstein3714 Picking hard has nothing to do with volume, it's more about articulation so you feel the notes in your left hand, which helps with your hand being more in sync. which makes your rhythm tighter

Okay dude I just have to say this. I've been going back to basics and reexamining how I pick and so on. I've been struggling with angles and my pick-holding fingers touching the strings. I had never seen anyone ever specifically explain what part of the pick is supposed to touch the strings, both up and down stroke wise. This simple explanation and demonstration helped me to finally understand not only the pick attack, but also the pick angle. I literally IMMEDIATELY feel like my picking is better than it has ever been, and my picking speed and comfort jumped up dramatically. It is worth noting that I have pretty bad ADHD , and therefore, a rather harsh inability to exercise self awareness. Points like this give me concrete things to look at that even I can comprehend. I have been playing for almost 20 years, self taught. The lack of self awareness, and a teacher that could possibly make things make sense to me, has stumped my growth. My son is very good at the flutter picking. I've been playing 61 years, and have been using Dunlop Silver or Golds, and only the shoulders. Those points just get in the way. I am not a flutter picker, but I DO like to blur!

Hi Mike new player here um 58 haven't had a guitar in 40 years after 5 weeks um trying to learn the fretboard but I have some conflicting information on pick grip i have tried both ways your way which seems to be the most common way and then there is the tom hess way I have found they both work,for me anyway. But as a beginner is this a bad idea to keep switching back and fourth 🤔 until I find my best grip I have never dropped a pick either way,but I wish you and Tom could have a podcast or video on why you guys prefer one to the other ,both you guys have very good insight on the instrument and it would maybe be the the whole communitys benefit to get you and toms reasons why one might be better than the other ,thanks for all your work over the years providing 👍 great free videos to help guitarist on there journey 👍 😀 😉 😊

You keep saying edge of pick, but keep pointing at the tip. Also, you said to use one edge for downstroke and the other for the upstroke. Do we flip the pick?

I’m completely confused on the very first point, how can you hit a totally different edge of the pick on a downstroke vs upstroke? I understand how you’d hit different SIDES of the pick, I don’t understand how you’d hit a different edge…
