When people say "Peak Cinema", this is the episode that deserves that title.. Not because it's beautifully animated or action packed but because it is adapted to perfection.. The direction, the music and just everything... chef kiss

@Messerflame Fujimoto has nothing to do with this. Stop d*ckriding this argument already, its in every DanDaDan related comment section and it’s getting annoying quickly! Has Tatsu been working as an assistant for Fujimoto? Yes, he has. Was he already the more experienced mangaka back then? Yes, he was. So who‘s learned more from whom? DanDaDan is it’s own thing entirely. Fujimoto has not a single thing to do with the series. Yet, Tatsu did have something to do with Chainsaw Man and Firepunch. So, whose fingerprint is the more influential? I‘d go for Tatsu, honestly. DanDaDan has subjectively better art, better humor, better drama, better action, better characters. Fujimoto‘s work just got more mainstream attention first because it was published earlier. Had the timeframes of each other’s successes been switched, everyone would crow over Tatsu having taught Fujimoto, not vice versa. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@Mozartkugel i was reminded of chainsaw man in dandadan personally, and well i do agree bro, but like theyre their own thing. i dont wanna compare, i did enjoy dandadan uptil now the most, chainsaw man the second, third was spy family obviously from the group... that aside, mad what an episode, cant glaze it enough, kensuke ushio's soundtracks are always amazing also. great piece of art. ALTHO i will say one thing, the first anime I saw do this concept of writing emotional backstories for dead characters who are now spirits, is mieruko chan, altho this is much MUCH better in every aspect than that, mieruko was the first one i remember doing this, and i dont wanna spoil too much but it had that bittersweet moment at the end of some episodes where they emotionally connect u to this spirit we've been running away from, and it made me cry. im so happy dandadan so masterfully executed that concept

50+ year old man (and animator) here. After episode 6, I was fully looking forward to seeing how they would take down the Acrobatic Silky in the next episode. The first half of episode 7 had the animator in me slackjawed at how they storyboarded the fight in the warehouse. Then, the episode turned... The last 12 minutes was just pulling me apart like a dime store sweater. My animation brain turned off and my brain could simply not keep up with how good EVERY SINGLE SHOT of the mother and child sequence. I've now watched episode 7 four times and every single watching I cry for different reasons. As an animator, I cry out of happiness for seeing my craft handled with the same care as old Warner Brothers cartoons of the 1940s. As a watcher of anime, I cry because we are in another Golden age of incredible projects such as this and Look Back. As a parent, I cry because this captures what it's like to pass down your love of a craft and seeing your child embrace it. I don't think I'll ever be able to watch this episode without crying as it's always going to be a Fist of the North Star 100-hit emotional gut punch.

Im not sure if I’m imagining this, but the animation in this episode was so much better than the other episodes, and the animators knew they had to do it. I never cry, but goddamn i never knew a show about a kid’s balls getting taken by the supernatural could make be bawl my eyes out. It rips your heart out because we know it's all too true. People who don't deserve the horrible things that happen in their lives get crushed under its weight every single day. The world is indeed 'too cruel', as Momo said, but it's the reality. In the end, all Aria can do is share in her pain and hope that they can live together somewhere in 'a kinder world'. I do wonder though, if this is the last we'll see of the daughter. After all, it wouldn't be the first time a character we were sure was gone has come back. Manga readers, if you know, you know.

This is what I watch anime for. I knew they would make the ghost a sympathetic character(because honestly, it's a bit of a trope, Isekai Shikkaku had a slightly similar episode) with her loving Aira for some reason but the heartbreaking visual storytelling for several minutes of the mother and her child was just so good and Aira hugging her to give her some closure made me totally wanna forgive how much of a doofus Aira was in her earlier appearances. This was Nao from Shiki but ten times more heart-touching and has a more positive ending.

I have never seen an animation that captures the esence of a child´s innocence and cutennes so well as that shot did. You know, Science Saru did one heck of a masterpiece with this single "Dandadan" episode... the animation, pacing, storytelling, everything else besides the overall adaptation of the manga series. I do hope that after "Dandadan," Science Saru will continue to produce more anime series or movies that many of us anime and/or manga fans can enjoy. Also, @arikendo, I agree with everything that you just said about this "Dandadan" episode in this video. By the way, for Science Saru's recent anime movie, "The Colors Within," I do hope that when it will be available for streaming on GKIDS (or any streaming service), it will be another masterpiece like "Dandadan," but from Naoko Yamada and the studio itself. (Also, @arikendo, sorry to say this again, but I look forward to "PART 4" of your "Every Anime Studio Explained" video series, if you plan to make it.)

I can't wait until the later backstories are animated. The backstories get more and more emotional as the series goes on to the point where I (someone who almost never cries at media) was on the verge of tears during the alien girl's backstory. They all hit hard and I can't wait to see them adapted, especially Vamola's backstory, that one's gonna be a real tearjerker because of just how in depth it is. Edit: Also I hope Silky's daughter makes another appearance in the series, it seems perfect for a story arc

Some people complain that the anime wasn't as obvious about the prostitution or the dance off the roof (like the manga panels that were shown in the video) and therefor think it is flawed for that reason... But IMO that is not how you should rate an adaptation. You cannot rate something worse, because it is limited by different laws and rules (such as displaying self-harm or prostitution on TV). My point is that while it is obviously subjective what each person likes, that particular reason for disliking the episode is objectively wrong. Judging whether it is a good adaptation, should not be about if it is 1-to-1, but whether it did the source material justice within the confines that they had. And yeah... they absolutely did! The way it was made... the details...the emotions... the gorgeously tragic music... the sounds. They went above and beyond to make this the absolutely best that they could! And they even went as close to the line that they could, in hinting at what the manga shows. It was truly A+ because they went beyond what almost anyone expected.
