I have been working with ACX since 2015. It is not easy. It’s not a side hustle. It’s pretty much a job. Although, you can do it part time. ACX is an Amazon company. Meaning Amazon owns ACX. You get paid (let’s say) $100 per finished hour. However, you can put 5-6 hours of work into that ONE finished hour. So, if the book you choose to do is 10 hours long and it pays $100 PFH, you get $1000 for around 50-60 hours of work. This is why ACX gives narrators/producers 3-6 months to complete an audiobook. So, at the end of all those months, you’ll get $1000. Your equipment is very important…and I love you girl…but that microphone will get an audiobook rejected. ACX will reject books that are not of good quality. You can create an affordable recording space, but you still have to invest in yourself, because you will be going up against other narrators with better microphones and experience. I actually have videos on my channel about voiceover, narration and singing. I talk about getting affordable equipment and what it takes to be successful as a narrator/voice actor. Working with ACX can be great. You just have to know what you’re doing. 😊

Did you have to buy eguipment?.....cause it ain't easy as it sounds.....because to edit and record..ACX university was teaching that the best way to record and edit and so forth, was to have a closed room sound proof and all these expensive equipment...that's the part she leaves out...I love her videos though
@leb251able2 жыл бұрын
@@delilah8901 , I didn't buy equipment yet. Thankfully my building and neighborhood isn't too noisy so I recorded my auditions via Voice memos during quiet parts of the day and used Apple Music to convert them to MP3's for upload. If I receive offers then I'll purchase a microphone for voice overs and podcasts (I already have it in my cart - but I thought why rush to pickup if I haven't gotten engaged on a project yet.) I do think ACX university is going to tell you the best way to get the highest quality and you should go with that. I'm just working with what I have for now to see if there is interest before I go buy equipment. I do listen to my auditions via headphones and try to hone in for background noise before I upload. If I have background noise, I re-record. So my way does require more time than just one read and upload.
@delilah89012 жыл бұрын
I appreciate you responding back...was just asking because I did check out ACX university and I thought it was amazing...they also tell you..a sound proof room and the equipment they tell you to buy, is best.. anyway you learn alot...I kinda get the buisness a lil bit...since I was a young girl I've always wanted to be an actress and do voice overs...I would have my dolls in front of me and I'd get into character...I had my portfolio and go to auditions in Manhattan 😄...unfortunately my life took a left turn..but it's okay....I'll keep trying

just to be clear for folks......per finished hour.....so the amount of work you do is actually more.....for example a three hour long book will actually take you 6-8 or more hours to narrate/produce. you have to take into consideration stopping for mistakes etc then editing etc so really that 3 hour book pays $300 to narrate ( $100 per finished hour) which divided up by working hours varies from $50-$25 or less. still awesome but just have to have the full picture.

I took a voice-over course (in-person), and boy, let me tell you. It was hard work. Think of the professional on-screen actors doing the voice-overs for animation films. That’s quality, cream of the crop work. We had to do voice exercises, as well as physical body exercises. Singing, dancing, movement, accents, reading off scripts, working/speaking with others, practice commercials, learn how to be in a studio, etc... Some students dropped out like me because we didn’t have the time (working full time, too). Creating your own mini-studio in your closet with your computer would suffice, but that’s up to you. Some people would rent a studio out. Also, I didn’t have a male or female voice, mine was categorized as neutral by the coach, which is always in high demand in the voiceover industry. Who knows, maybe one day I will go back. I’m that type of a creative person. Maybe even apply for a radio station, or create your own internet radio station. The opportunities are endless.
