EDIT: for some reason I didn’t know this is your second channel when I wrote the comment above. I just went to the main channel and also watched the “important update” from half a year ago. It’s very impressive that you were able to tackle several difficult exams, and ever more impressive that you finally decided go for the thing you truly want. Here’s a little bit about myself and perhaps it might resonate with you a little bit. About some 20 years ago, which is also the time when I started cubing, I also had to choose what to study in college, and I went with Electrical Engineering, which was one of the most popular majors back then (alongside with, coincidentally, medicine and software). I chose a engineering because it was popular, could make me a lot of money, and my dad told me so. I then spent 4 years in one of the top uni in Taiwan, proceeded to get a Master in Engineering in a top US school. After working for a few years as a software engineer, I got into a Ph.D program, yet again in the same field, because it felt like the right thing to do. You climb the ladder as high as you can, right? After spending 5 years in the Ph.D program, I quit. I finished with a Master degree and graduated. I realized that’s not what I really wanted. Engineering is interesting, and Ph.D is challenging, but neither were what I truly wanted. During the years as a Ph.D student, I cultivated some other hobbies outside of the engineering field (because let’s be honest, Ph.D is boring..) One of them turned out to be very rewarding, both mentally and financially, and instead of looking for a job as an engineer in FANNG, I started a consulting business in that hobby I have. I have been self-employed as a consultant / business owner since then and it feels great to be doing what I really like. I don’t know if you would read such a long story especially since it’s just a KZbin comment, but if you did, I want to let you know: follow your heart, do what you truly likes, with your passion and strength, I’m very sure you’ll be successful, and most importantly, you’ll feel rewarded and satisfied working on it. Good luck, can’t wait to see what you have in mind for the cubing community.
