This depends on the boards having flat, parallel surfaces since you're setting each surface against the jointer fence. So the method depends on planing them first.

The boards I used in this example video were not sent through the planer or face jointed prior to this method. So it seems that it will help regardless but you are correct flat faces will indeed result in a better result!
