This song slayed me when I heard it the first time 8 years ago. Taylor took words from Wendy’s blog about her son to write the song. My best friend from high school didn’t lose her 5 year old daughter Amber to cancer, but the carelessness of two drunk drivers who were drag racing their vehicles in the opposite direction. It was 2/11/2011 when Michelle and Amber were having a girls day and while they were getting ready for the day, Amber asked what God’s face looked like. Michelle was hurt bad in the accident also, so when she was given the news that Amber had been killed instantly in the crash, she was understandably devastated. She was then able to hold Amber until she had to go to surgery. Amber’s funeral was one of the hardest experiences ever. At her graveside we released balloons and they formed into the shape of a heart and we all took comfort from it. Like she was saying it’s all going to be okay I know what God looks like now! The trials for the mfers who killed her were horrible and the guy who hit them head on got off Scott free. Michele and her husband weathered the storm by keeping Amber still ever present to this day. Last year she should have graduated from high school and Amber’s parents started a scholarship in her name for one boy and one girl in Clearwater, KS. They are incredible people and I learned a lot about grief with God’s grace.

So the story behind the song is that maya was chronicling the blog and when Taylor was looking for how to deal with a family member who has cancer bc Taylor’s mom has battled cancer for years. She found the blog, and decided to take Mayas own words from the blog and wrote the song. So the song is in mayas words. They didn’t sit down and wrote the song together, rather Taylor used her storytelling skills to add to Mayas own blog entries. Ronans family receives all songwriting royalties from the song because Taylor gave maya the songwriting credit.

I have been thinking about it and if someone made a mashup of soon you will get better, ronan and bigger than the whole sky... It will be the sobfest that i will play on loop. The three songs together would so beautifully capture loss and grief ( I am speaking from the place of understanding those experiences)

Ali I love when you are in videos!!! People who have something bad to say are always vocal. But don’t forget that for every hater, there are double the people that love you ❤❤

This song alone proves Tay's absolute talent as a lyricist. I bawl EVERY TIME I HEAR THIS SONG and I have heard it over 100 times. She's so amazing with words!

A song you’ll love is “Live like you were dying” by Tim McGraw. I always liked the song, but after I had a stroke, the song went to a different level for me. You live every day like it’s your last. I don’t just leave, I leave everyone with a hug telling them I love you.

You hit it right on the head when you said you don't get over it. My family still can't talk about our little guy without crying, and I can't handle seeing anything to do with kids having cancer. Movies, music, TV, books...nothing. This song reduces me to ugly sobbing every time. I almost never listen to it because of that.

Oh, my gosh, Ronan was such a beautiful little boy😢💔 this was so beautiful of Taylor to write this song and give the money to Ronan's family🫶🏼 Also, my kids do the same when their dad is at work😊 always asking, "Where's Daddy?" in the morning❤

As a loss mom myself, i just want to say thank you for reacting to this. Most people skip it and it always makes me feel like crap. Yeah it's tragic but it happened and this helps the world remember him. Sometimes I feel like no one remembers my son but my husband and I. Child loss is taboo and no one wants to talk about it but it happens. You're absolutely right about trying to do something positive to remember them because it's truly all you can do. Great reaction. ❤️
