@@cosmicspark6772 Nope. She confirmed it herself. In her interview with EW, Taylor talked about "My Tears Ricochet", the first Folklore song she wrote, and made it clear that the lyrics speak about the end of her personal and professional relationship with Borchetta. "Speaking with EW, Swift likened it to a 15-year relationship - be it personal or professional - that ends messily. "That was what started to happen [to me], so I wrote 'My Tears Ricochet' and I was using a lot of imagery that I had conjured up while comparing a relationship ending to when people end an actual marriage, and all of a sudden this person that you trusted more than anyone in the world is the person that can hurt you the worst."

This is Jack Antonoff, one of her producers and cowriters. They started working together in like 2013 on a song Sweeter Than Fiction for the movie One Chance and then Taylor worked with him on an album 1989 (which Taylor's Version comes out in 3 weeks yay) and then worked on stuff together ever since, like there is not an album she put out since where he didn't work at least on one song, I think on evermore he has the least songs maybe, but she worked with him on the whole standart version of Midnights as well, like that was mostly just her and Jack. And they are really good friends. The song is mostly agreed to be about Scott Borchetta, a head of her former record label where she had her first 6 albums, which were sold away from her, so yeah she is angry. Because it's kinda exactly how she said in the little interview. He was a person who she trusted, basically with her whole career, and then he decided to sell her music to Scooter Braun (from there the lyric "you hear my stolen lullabies", a person who she hated because he acted horrible towards her. So she felt really betrayed...plus when she recorded this, this was I think only a few months before she could legally start rerecording her music, so the emotions about it especially at that time must've been really strong. And then there is obviously the lyric "I can go anywhere I want, anywhere I want, just not home" which could represent her music, that was "stolen", because her music is her babies, and it is how she copes with things, it's the way she lives her life, and then it was taken away from her and she got a choice. For every new album she would write, she would earn the rights to a new one. But that's just so messed up and she knew it, and she knew that even if it hurt, she had to walk away from those albums, "she could not come home", she had to go ahead, focus on the future.

@@shaliekk They aren't all strictly autobiographical confessional songs like she's done before, but they mostly have some point of reference and are not completely made up stories. Some examples: Last Great American Dynasty tells a history of her RI house and the woman who used to live in it; my tears ricochet about scott and her first 6 albums as explained above; mirrorball she explains in the long pond movie partly about how she felt during covid; invisible string is about her and joe (that's the most autobiographical one with specific references); mad woman about scooter? some say KW? could be a little bit of both; epiphany about her grandfather/ww2 and the nurses and doctors during covid; peace is about someone willing to be with her as friend/partner and the things she can and cannot control around her; hoax also about scott?; the lakes about wanting to get away from it all and take joe (muse) with her. This is just folklore since that's the one they're listening to right now.

Folklore came out in July 2020 and evermore came out in December 2020. My Tears Ricochet is about the owner of her old record label and how he sold her masters to Scooter without ever giving her a chance to purchase them herself, hence the 'stolen lullabies' and why we have come to call the original versions of her albums the stolen versions. ETA: Track 5s are always her most vulnerable songs. She did is subconsciously at first, but after the fans noticed and pointed it out she started to do it on purpose. Basically track 5s are some of her saddest songs.

This song is about how she feels about the man who discovered her and signed her to his record label, Big Machine Records, and who subsequently sold her masters. Where this relationship comes into play is all of the internal references to her music that she made while under this label which were her first 6 albums. I didn't have it in myself to go with grace - referencing State of Grace from Red album (#4) And you're the hero flying around, saving face - referencing Superman from Speak Now album (#3) And if I'm dead to you why are you at the wake? - referencing Reputation album (#6) (in the death of her reputation...) Cursing my name, wishing I stayed - referencing All You Had To Do Was Stay from 1989 album (#5), Stay Stay Stay from Red album (4), debut album "Taylor Swift" i.e. her name (1) Look at how my tears ricochet - referencing Tear Drops On My Guitar from Taylor Swift Debut (#1) You know I didn't want to have to haunt you - referencing Haunted from Speak Now album (#3) Cause when I'd fight you used to tell me I was brave - possibly referencing Fearless from Fearless album (#2) (I'm less confident about this reference lol) And you're tossing out blame - referencing Don't Blame Me from Reputation album (#6) Not being able to go home references not being able to go back to her label who discovered her and her "stolen lullabies" are her stolen songs. You practically need a degree to get through all her references. I'm sure she has a ton of other references in the song, but these are the ones that stick out to me

It is from the old days when someone thought dead would sometimes wake up. A viewing and reminiscing would happen around the coffin the night before the funeral. Viewings/wakes are generally somber, but the irish often add in music and cheer, hoping to 'wake' the person to join the party. The song 'Finnegan's Wake' depicts this perfectly.

Here’s what Taylor said in an interview about My Tears Ricochet: (FYI it’s about Scott Borchetta, the man who signed her and was the manager of Big Machine and a friend for many years) In the new interview, Swift explained that while writing songs for the album, she found herself being “very triggered by any stories, movies, or narratives revolving around divorce”, despite never going through the process herself. “There’s no reason it should cause me so much pain, but all of a sudden it felt like something I had been through. I think that happens any time you’ve been in a 15-year relationship and it ends in a messy, upsetting way,” Swift said. “So I wrote ‘My Tears Ricochet’ and I was using a lot of imagery that I had conjured up while comparing a relationship ending to when people end an actual marriage. All of a sudden this person that you trusted more than anyone in the world is the person that can hurt you the worst.” “I think I wrote some of the first lyrics to that song after watching Marriage Story and hearing about when marriages go wrong and end in such a catastrophic way.”

There are a lot of comments here giving the context about her masters and what many believe was the inspiration for the song, but please keep in mind that music is endlessly subjective. It’s meant to mean something different to everyone who hears it. You shouldn’t need a Swiftie 101 class to appreciate her music, and you don’t. It grinds my gears when I see people say “this is definitively about XYZ” as if to say you’re wrong for getting something else out of it. This is definitely about Scott Borchetta, her manager since she was 15. She loved him and when he picked money over their relationship she was devastated, especially when he sold it to Scooter Brawn, someone she had zero respect for. Hence, she is re-recording all her older albums (which are called Taylor's Version) so that she will be the owner of all her Masters. When she re-records her old albums she tries to sing them the same and even hired all the original musicians so it would sound authentic to the originals. Swifties only listen to the albums that are TV (Taylor's Version) to make sure she gets the money, not Scooter. However, he turned around and sold them to someone else after all this happened, can't remember the name of that company.

i think y’all should use genius when you pull up lyrics! they usually also have blurbs about the songs and theory’s (if they’re not confirmed already) so it gives you a better picture of the song too :)

"You know I didn't want to, have to haunt you, but what a ghostly scene. You wear the same jewels that I gave you, as you bury me...." Makes pretty clear what this is about to her personally. The jewels are her first 6 albums.

It's Jack Antonoff (sp?). He's co-producded & co-written a lot of her music. Plus they are super close friends. He just married Margaret Qually (sp?)...she's Andie McDowell's daughter and a very talented actress like her mama.

Not offended by the K pop ref but comparing her to Kanye -- that is a low blow. 😆 Don't do her dirty like that.
