as a former member of the hyperpop community, the label "hyperpop" has been a cancer to the community. now smaller artists in the scene who make "hyperpop" aren't making what people have come to know as hyperpop. folks simply try to make a song purely inspired by established hyperpop artists and not the artists that inspired the established artists. they don't even bother to pay respect to the old heads that pioneered the genres these folks are mashing up. they don't understand what it is that made this genre stand out in the first place and are just trying to replicate the success of artists like 100 Gecs or SOPHIE. no hate to the folks who do this, but they gotta understand the damage they are doing to the identity of the genre. hyperpop is meant to be experimental, not stagnant from ruminating on past releases from your favorite artist as a means to replicate them. hyperpop has to evolve in order to continue being hyperpop and not just being pop. no hate to pop too. y'all get the point, I hope.

@@ImmortalNinja33 oh, i wasn’t necessarily talking about this song, but i do think this song is like a sanitized version of hyperpop. i’m not against more mainstream pop style hyperpop, but i didn’t like the song. i didn’t hate the song though. i thought the bridge was really weirdly bad and kinda outta key and the verses were mid with the carti verse being the worst. the repetitive “i love it” hook i actually thought went crazy and was the best part of the track. i’m still hopeful for this record. im hoping this is a lowlight of the record. and about the copying other artists stuff, don’t sweat it too much. you’ll find your voice. i’d still even consider myself a young artist. i just have experience because i’ve been in the industry for a long time. i dealt with that stuff too, but don’t stop yourself from experimenting just because you’re afraid it sounds too similar to something else. see where it goes and if it sounds too similar, just get some advice from friends. see if other people can hear that it’s too similar. if it’s too similar, just shelve it and dive into more music and try to get more influences. our creativity is really kinda just an amalgamation of our favorite parts of our influences. a wise man once said “yoink and twist”. if you figure out the yoink part, you can start working on how to twist it into something original. that’s half the battle already done. but yeah, i also love a lot of the bands that were considered grunge as well. when i’m talking about pop-grunge im talking about the late 90’s to early 00’s bands from after the nirvana craze. every record label wanted to sign the next nirvana. people weren’t paying attention to kurt’s influences at that point, they weren’t looking at how kurt combined his influences and figuring out how they could apply that to their own style. they just copied someone else’s style with a vague understanding of it.

It's so sad. I love hyperpop and I was hoping that it was going to be the next big thing since it was one of the few semi-mainstream genres looking forward in an industry that's going retro. Also can we just talk about this: Who has Camilla sold her soul to or who is the higher-up who is obsessed with her? This is, what, the fourth or fifth push to try to make her happen since her 2015 Fifth Harmony days?? Think of all the potentially rad artists out there not being developed or given one opportunity and here comes Cabello with another album nobody wants or asked for. I am reminded of the movie Mean Girls: “Stop trying to make fetch happen!” We have routinely and near universally said “No thanks” to this chick and somebody on-high is not receiving the message.
