This song will always make me think of my grandparents as well as my parents. Both my grandparents back in the 50s & 60s, young Americans doing the best they can in life and raising kids, 30 years later my parents meet doing the best they can in life and raising me… that was back in the 2000s. Now 3 out of 4 of my grandparents have died (in 2004, 2017, and 2020)… yet life still goes on and now I’m a young American doing the best I can. …and the Jack & Diane story can go for anyone ❤️

This song was originally about an interracial couple where Jack was African-American and not a football star but the record company persuaded John to change it.
