Vehicle upgrades is to see what you have on your pod racer and in what condition they're in, Buy parts is to buy brand-new parts with no damage, but you need to get to the highr tier tournaments to unlock better parts, the Junkyard is to buy damaged parts at a huge discount and you can find higher tier pieces at early play time

Heh, my first SW game was Dark Forces 2. Still play the old gems frequently, just finished Racer again a few weeks ago. Since I've seen no one else explain the shops here's how it works: Watto's shop will have the parts at a higher price point but in perfect durability and thus better stats. The stats of a part drop like a stone once its durability goes down. The junkyard sells parts at cheap prices but with random durability values and worse stats. Thing is, that's what the pit droids are for. You can have 4 droids that maintain parts between races and prevent their durability from falling and even fixing broken parts, this is important; if you know how, you can use them to choose the 4 vital parts of your pod racer that will never lose durability and either neglect the parts that aren't all that important or replace them on the regular. So you can buy the best engine, best coolant unit, best accelerator and best braking system on the junkyard for cheap and have the droids maintain them and bring them back to full durability. If you're trying to get the best parts for the later races, you can just do an earlier race again; the junkyard will have random items in it and resets after every race, rinse and repeat until you have what you need. You'll save thousands of credits, always buying top shelf/replacing degrading parts is a losing game, you don't earn enough money between races for this to work as the high-end items are incredibly expensive. On the flipside, a fully upgraded pod massively outclasses anything the AI uses and isn't generally required to beat the game.
@DuckInGameStop2 жыл бұрын
You can also switch to a different podracer and it'll refresh the junkyard, on the Steam version anyway. I just started a playthrough last night where I unlocked Bullseye Navoir as soon as possible (because he's cool and has really good stats except top speed) and then started buying only 4 of the 7 upgrades. You can only have 4 total pit droids, so if you buy any more upgrades than that (and crash frequently), they won't be able to keep up with repairs and at least one part will always be heavily damaged after each race. Once I finish all the tracks, I can buy the other remaining upgrades with the tens of thousands of truguts I'll have saved up, and then I'll permanently have a perfect podracer because the parts don't get damaged unless you're doing a race you haven't won before! (This technique was suggested to me by someone on the SWE1R Discord server. I can share a link if anyone's interested in joining that, here's an active speedrunning community on there and they've been very helpful explaining things to me since I started playing a few months ago)

Answer to have I ever played this game before: yes, yes I have. An excessive amount actually. I grew up playing this game and as a young adult (20) I play it almost daily still. You might wonder how I can still play it that much but it’s because I speedrun it now. The depth of the mechanics of this game go so much farther than anyone can imagine just playing it. I’m happy to see someone bigger bring it to light again :)

Junkyard parts have less durability and need to be repaired by the pit droids, if you look at the parts they all have health bars. Parts bought for full price from the store directly have Max hp while discounted parts from the junkyard are cheaper but are damaged. This isnt much of an issue if you have pit droids to repair your parts between races, so as long as you are good at not blowing up your racer you should be fine as the parts dont have less max hp they just go into your inventory already damaged.

3:21 It's probably been explained multiple times already further down in the comments, but the difference between the parts store and junkyard is that the parts bought from the store are brand new and cost more, while parts from the junkyard are cheaper but come in various states of reduced condition and need repairs.

There actually is an answer for this the pod racers use repulsors to hover just above the ground by repelling themselves from the metals in the ground sometimes a set of rails underneath the track to improve “traction” but over a deep frozen lake you don’t get the “stick” that solid ground would give you. So it kinda makes sense if magnetic flying chariot races make any to begin with.

This was among the first three Star Wars I played. The reason I'm not sure if it was the first one is because I do remember playing two other SW games at the time. These were Episode 1: Phantom Menace and Battle for Naboo. I played those on the PC. I must've been six at the time, and I didn't understand a word of English. And yet, I played the everlasting sh*t out of those games. Somehow I managed to finish those games with barely understanding a word English. As I kept replaying those games my English improved and I started understanding what was being said. _EDIT: just checked the release date. Battle for Naboo would've been the third game as it came two years out after the other two. Funnily enough, it's the only game I can actually remember purchasing._ Those three games were my childhood. They basically were the foundation of me learning a second language, all on my own. I also had Star Wars Force Commander laying around, but six year old me clearly wasn't smart enough to know what the hell I was supposed to do in that game. That wasn't simple racing or flying a starfighter, that was a strategy game. So after hitting a brick wall in the first mission, that game disappeared in a drawer until two years later where my English had improved to the point where I could actually understand the game. Was still difficult at the time, but that was one hell of a game too. Had a banger of a main theme as well. Every time I booted it up, I let the main theme play out before I actually started a mission.

I just finished playing this on steam yesterday. I still feel to this day that episode 1: racer is way better than racers revenge. It feels more like a racing game. The tracks are better, the camera is panned further away so you can just concentrate on the track and unlike the sequel, there are no constant demolition derby elements that just ruined the game for me.

Make it all customizable, different paint jobs, different parts that affect the way your vehicle looks and the stats, etc. Build your own vehicle. Race online against other players. Have a short single player story campaign that's cannon but have a large emphasis on online play. I think people would buy the hell out of that.
