Hey, Several folks have recommended “Days Of Our Lives”, which is a great documentary on Queen beginning with their inception… I would ALSO recommend: “FREDDIE MERCURY: THE UNTOLD STORY” which begins w his childhood and includes interviews w some of his family. “FREDDIE MERCURY: WHO WANTS TO LIVE FOREVER” which covers his last years. There is also… “FREDDIE MERCURY: THE GREAT PRETENDER” ALL are EXCELLENT.🖖

Though not entirely accurate, this film served it's purpose of being entertaining and introducing new people to this legendary band. Roger and Brian had a major part in creating it so if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me. In a previous video, you mentioned wanting to hear more songs with Roger Taylor (drummer) prominently singing. I recommend reacting to "I'm in love with my car" live at Montreal. It's truly impressive. "Drowse" is another great studio song with Roger Taylor singing lead. It's much more laid back than other Roger songs. Rock It (Prime Jive) is another hidden Roger gem. Loving your Queen reactions! They've been my favorite band since I was 7 years old.

May added: "We all influenced each other. That was the secret of Queen. We pushed and pulled each other, mercilessly. "We had a family relationship. It wasn't always nice, because families aren't always nice. "We sometimes said terrible things, but we got the best out of each other." The film shows the key moment when the band reunite just before Live Aid and one of the central requirements is that all future songwriting credits and royalties are equally shared. The scene onscreen shows it restoring harmony, but May admits it hasn't been that simple.

I loved the movie, it led me to the Queen's music and Freddie. But when I started to dig myself into the several books, interviews, documentaries I learned, that the real Freddie Mercury was very different to the depicted one. He was a kind, generous, caring, loving and funny guy, never an autocrat. According to Brian and Roger Freddie was the peacemaker in the band. He loved having a good time with friends and he wasn't as lonely as in the movie. The most authentic role is sadly Paul Prenter's. I will never undestand why Brian and Roger let to show the fake image of Freddie's, who meant them much more than a band member, they were "brothers".

Great film, great acting but not entirely accurate. Of course things had to be sped up to fit the actual movie. Freddie knew Brian and Roger well before they formed queen. They didn't just meet like that. Roger and Brian were actually involved in the making this film. Btw great reaction!! 'Days of our lives' documentary is a much more detailed watch!!

No matter what criticism this film gets, you can’t take away from it being a great movie. Of course there are things in the movie to create dramatic moments. It’s a biopic not a documentary. There are some great Queen documentaries out there for you to see. 🤘🏽 * I saw it many, many times in the theater when it came out. It was definitely a bittersweet experience.

The timeline is off in the movie and they took some liberties with the storyline but according to Brian and Roger, the movie was really about Freddie and they both felt that a good job was done in portraying him. It is hard to cram a 20 year career into a movie and still keep it interesting and entertaining to the audience and Rog and Bri both felt it turned out well. This movie took a lot of years to make but in the end, it is a good movie and it did introduce a whole new generation to Queen.

I first watch this movie before I fell inlove with this Band(especially Freddie😊) I mean I don’t know about Queen when I watch this film back in 2020😅, nobody introduces me to this movie I just did watch it after watching Angelina Jordan’s audition in AGT she did sing Bohemian Rhapsody , and at the comments they mentioned about the Movie 😂hah so there’s a movie so I did watch, that’s where It start my interest to Queen, then I watch some of their Documentaries, then I realise that the film messes a bit about the story of band and Freddie, but as they say ‘it’s a hollywood movie’ 😂. As for me, after watching their documentaries and Interview of Freddi, I realise I didn’t see any Freddie on Rami’s. Freddie was a funny guy and so charismatic but I still love the film😊. Anyways welcome to the Queendom🎉!

I'm glad you enjoyed the movie - I didn't, so I should say I'm happy it made you love Queen! I left this comment before, so I'll just put it again - the basics of what's inaccurate - though I agree the movie was enjoyable in some ways and did its job of bringing a lot of wonderful attention to a band that deserves it. I suggest "Days of Our Lives", which is on KZbin, for the accurate story. There's a literal interview with Freddie ("Musical Prostitute" Interview - check it out!) from DURING the recording of his solo album and he and Queen were about to go on a literal tour together, so they weren't broken up and not speaking, far from it. A literal quote from that interview (essentially) is "I think a lot of people thought I'd be the first one to do a solo album and that the band would break up. Roger's done two already! But here we are, after thirteen years, four old Queens still rocking away." He made it clear they all just wanted to try other things after so long and that they'd just gotten bored, but still wanted to stay together. I explain this more in my first point, but that's my biggest issue with the movie. They try to demonize Freddie for going solo, try to say Queen broke up, and then try to pin something that never happened (this supposed break up) on Freddie. Check out the beginning of "Who Wants to Live Forever" live at Wembley in 1986 - Freddie addresses rumors the band's going to break up, then bends over, points at his behind, and says "They're talking from here." So. Back to my original points. 1) The band had some arguments and struggles and spent some time "apart" (though not completely estranged) in the early-mid 80s to pursue other things, but never broke up. Freddie wasn't the first to go solo, either, which is weirdly a huge dramatic plot point in the movie. Roger, the drummer was - he had TWO solo albums by the time Freddie decided to make his. Roger even sang backup for Freddie and appeared in one of the solo music videos, so it clearly didn't create the huge problem or lack of communication between them the movie shows. It upsets me a little that that's the direction that was taken. It's a complete fabrication. There was some tension over Freddie's sizable advance, yes, but it was nothing like the movie, which tries to vilify Freddie for making a solo album at all, as if he were leaving the band behind. Like I said, Roger did it first anyway, and Brian made his own later as well. They'd been together so long by then that he just wanted to branch out a little, and Queen eventually did come back together with more motivation after Live Aid and produced lots more music. Roger and Brian both still get emotional when talking about Freddie and clearly hold him in incredibly high regard. They wrote a song for him after he died ("No One But You [Only the Good Die Young]"), and Roger has another song called "Old Friends" written about him (Freddie wrote one for Brian called "Soul Brother"). They loved each other. John adamantly felt no one could ever replace Freddie and distanced himself from the band - he was described as "fragile" afterwards - but supported all projects they pursued. Brian and Roger always seek his approval. Roger has a statue of Freddie in his garden, and Brian took a trip all the way to Zanzibar (Freddie's birth country) recently to learn more about his past. Freddie's sister gave him the tour. Arguments were more centered around creative directions (the album "Hot Space" was like dance club music most of the band hated, and the movie does show the negative influence of Paul Prenter around that time, which is fairly accurate). Freddie was the first to admit they argued a lot, but they were also much closer than the movie portrayed, imo. I guess they got the closest *after* the time the movie portrayed, but still. Freddie and Roger in particular had a tighter bond than the movie shows. Roger and Brian made a point of giving an interview one week after Freddie's death, despite being visibly upset, to argue against the media portrayal of him as a wild, out of control drug addict. They said he was never out of control or absorbed with drugs, though he (and the rest of the band) certainly threw WILD, infamous parties with plenty of cocaine. You'd be hard pressed to find rock stars in the 80s who didn't. That being said, no one in Queen - including Freddie - was ever arrested, accused of any crime, or spent time in rehab (I don't judge that last one at all, but still). John Deacon did have quite a problem with alcohol, but it was managed privately. Homophobia played a big part in the media's hateful portrayals of Freddie. 2) Timelines are different. "We Will Rock You" / "We Are the Champions" weren't 80s songs, they were late 70s songs and much more collaborative than the movie shows. Minor, but kind of annoying. Freddie was a much larger part of what whole process than was portrayed. 3) The performance at Live Aid (please watch it!) at the end as a sort of climax is a little odd: the film tells viewers that Freddie knew of his AIDS diagnosis already by then AND that the band hadn't performed together in years and this was some insane thing to do. They, in fact, performed some of their biggest shows ever to huge stadium audiences on a South American tour just a couple of months before Live Aid. In no way were they rusty with performing! Freddie also didn't receive a diagnosis until two years AFTER Live Aid, in 1987. They did one huge European stadium tour after that in 1986 (where you see him in his infamous yellow jacket at Wembley), and it was during that tour that he began feeling noticeably sick. He was diagnosed after he returned home. Lots of creative liberties were taken to make a more dramatic plot. It just makes me uncomfortable when movies portray a celebrity no longer with us who cannot sign off on it, that's all, especially when so many blatant changes to past events are made. Brian and Roger have defended the movie, but they also didn't have say over the plot particulars and had formed relationships with the actors and film crew - their biggest influence was refusing to allow Sacha Baron Cohen to play the R-rated version of Freddie that Cohen had wanted to play because that wasn't the image of their friend they wanted shown. The movie does get some things right, but it hasn't sat well with me at all. That being said, I think the performances were wonderful overall.

Sad to hear you didn’t like the film, but I completely understand. You definitely can’t take a lot of these films for face-value. I just thought with Brian, Roger, and Jon alive, they would do it some justice. Thank you for clearing up the facts, this is amazing!
@ellab88972 жыл бұрын
@Lauren Raubaugh - I only skimmed through your *long* comment. Yes, there are a lot of things to take issue with. For what it’s worth, however, Brian, Roger, *and* reclusive Deacy signed off on the movie. As Roger himself said, in his typically blunt way, “It’s a movie, not a £*cking documentary!”
@laurenraubaugh95422 жыл бұрын
@@ellab8897 Yep, and I can understand that too! It did bring a lot of new fans to Queen - it's just my opinion, and I don't like biopics in general, but I'm happy he did and that other people did! I think clarifying with an end or beginning statement that it's a fictionalized version would be helpful, because some people take too much as fact.

@@ellab8897 I wonder if they would be happy if it showed their bad sides?
@ellab88972 жыл бұрын
@@jpw6893- I wonder from your question if you’ve seen the movie. I have. I saw it in 2019, so by now my memory of it isn’t sharp, but I do recall that the band members are *not* depicted as not having “bad sides.” I don’t think the surviving members of the band signed off on the movie because they were shown in only the best light, making them “happy” with it. I more than know that the film has inaccuracies, plenty of them, with which to take issue(s). Yes, I responded with impatience because it seemed like *everything* possible to take issue with was brought up in @Lauren Raubaugh’s comment, and I found it to be rather much. I can see how it looked like I was dismissing her concerns by telling her that Brian, Roger, and John signed off for an entertaining, not fully factual, story of Queen to be made into a movie.
