Watched msny NB videos and this is the first to talk about bugs. In Ameriva most homes have screens / keep windows closed at night. Another reason is day temps are 90 to 100+ degrees so air conditioning is must. Night temps of 85 to 100 are common and mosquitoes are thick and spread diseases.

I've noticed that lots (most) of narrowboats don't have any screens. That is the first thing I'd add! Needing windows open to be cool requires anti-bug screening for me. Fortunately there is screening fabric that can be added using magnets and is sized for windows and doors. Essential!

That bug infestation reminds me of a time I was in Scotland staying at a cottage out in the sticks in the summer. I opened the front door to put something in the bin and left the light on in the kitchen. Midges everywhere. 😂 The handheld vacuum tip is a good one because that's what I did to get rid of them. If I remember correctly our late and missed queen .was a jam first person that's good enough for me. Actually jam on one side cream on the other was my late mother's favorite way. Getting clotted cream here in Oklahoma is kinda difficult. So have to make do with well beaten heavy whipping cream.

Go to a old type fabric shop where you can buy net curtains and the like. The one we go to sells a fine insect mesh which you can buy in whatever length you want and it is extremely reasonably priced. It’s like the mosquito netting that you put over your bed. Cut to size and use wonder web for the hems, then use the sticky Velcro on the frames and the Velcro bit on the net,get a extra sized bit for your bed area and make one up for your Doors or buy the magnetic one for the Doors. Spiders don’t like Horse Chestnuts ( conkers ) but there are lots of natural sprays that you can use to keep bugs at bay. Portable hoover is a good way of getting rid of any bugs inside your Boat. One thing you can buy at the moment is a battery powered or electric outside fly zapper,it uses the UV light and so if you put one up outside your Boat the bugs should go to that light and not the ones in the Boat. Should be wearing helmets on your Bikes especially with the way people are driving these days and you are on country roads where you never know what is around the corner or going to jump out of the hedges, you would be surprised at how many people on Bikes have accidents in the Countryside,especially during Summer ! Be a heartbreak if one of you got seriously injured because you weren’t wearing a helmet 🤷♂️. Watch out for the Horse Flies that are around at the moment ( they are huge ) and there are also Blood Suckers about,I grew up in the Countryside and something is telling me that with the way nature is having a growing spurge and insects not seen for years making a appearance we are in store for a very Hot Summer. Take care and Be Safe Out there ❤

Hi you lovely couple. Ive got bug screens on my boat at my bow door and for my stern hatch and duck hatch. Amazon do a variety of screens. Magnets ones too also if you google them theres lots of screens made for boats. Its not 100% bug free though because of windows. Citronella helps a lot too and a hand vac. I did buy a bug zapper but there not that good but when they do zap its such a horrible loud popping noise. It makes you jump and pop out your skin lol. Hope that helps. Lovely vlog as always. Cream first. Or best, cut the scone in half, cream on one side, jam on other, then combine. You can get magnetic fly screens, you just use double sided tape to stick them around the windows/doors. The ones for doors have two panels with magnets in the middle so they close behind you. If you want to make it fancy, you can get roll up ones (like a roller blind, but made with insect mesh). For cheapest solution, roll of insect mesh + double sided tape.

The first year I was on my boat, had the same problem. Then I was told to embrace spiders they love flying bugs and change all the white lights out. You’ve got ants, earwigs and slugs to name but a few to look forward to.

Hopefully Never Termites. my next Sailboat is actually Ternite proof, with no Plywood Termite Reataurants in it at all. It'll mostly be in the Caribbean at least for a while, and from Florida and around, and down past Brazil, Termites are a Realky big problem. An area of Brazil bigger than the British Isles, is all Termite Mounds believe it or not. They are also the biggest Source of CO2 on the .planet, believe it or not, but thankfully that is a very large positive, as Our Atmosphere has a pretty severe CO2 Shortage. Most Plant varieties are struggling to cope withbthe shortage and are greatly increasing the amount of water they use, attempting to compensate, which leaves them weakened an vulnerable to insect attack as well as Plant diseases. 😒

We’re from Devon, definitely cream first then jam. Think it looks more appetising and nice on the eye.

This is the way we do it too 😝

Scone as in gone like you guys but jam on first cream second for me. Cream on first is the Devon way, jam on first is the Cornish way I believe! ❤

I disagree with your pronunciation but that was a great little snippet of information there :bow of thanks:

Cream replaces butter .. so goes first. That small bug that Josh rescued was a baby dragonfly. :)

Been following all your videos. You seem like such a chilled and wonderful couple! Wish you happiness and safe blessings on the rest of your adventures! I live in Worsley, Salford right by a canal (famous for being the first copper mining place). Lovely walks and beautiful setting. If you ever get to north west, you should give it a try. 😊 Ps. Let me know if you ever past our canals, I’ll drop you guys some treats off for your travels

Amazing!! I didn’t know that! I work a lot with copper and bronze and so it would be so cool to pass past :)

@@UlaandJosh the water is actually copper colour too if you Google ‘Worsley village canal’ or something like that lol. They had the first mines here that go underground they’ve made a feature of it. We rent a barge from a friend m sometimes and there’s a direct route in to the centre of town where you can stop off for drinks and food. It’s lovely and well worth the trip :) take care

People from Cornwall say it’s jam then cream, but in Devon it’s cream first then jam, I guess it doesn’t really matter, all down to personal choice 😊

Those bugs look very much like Midgies 😂 you would be better getting a blue light bug zapper
@UlaandJosh Жыл бұрын
Ohhhhh I couldn’t handle one of those zappers! They would make me jump 🤪

The bug issue is easy. Leave windows open put a light on outside switch off all lights inside wait 20 minutes shut windows It worked for me when I did in in an old house in the county
@UlaandJosh Жыл бұрын
We tried that as this is what i used to do in aus… but these bugs seemed pretty stubborn 🤪

@@UlaandJosh Not all bugs are attracted by light. Mosquitoes, for example. For those, I have a thing with liquid that plugs into the wall. It is rated at 4w and I only need it in the night. They are quite cheap, so could be worth a try presuming 4w overnight is not an issue.
