Back in the 80s Randy Lerch pitched for months with a cast on his non throwing wrist. Don't know how good he was batting however. There's no reason Miller shouldn't be able to pitch in a couple of weeks with a modified glove (if they want to do that).

Miller experienced frustration and responded with an angry gesture *shrug* People who love their jobs are always going to have aspects of it they might not love to deal with at the moment. Maybe he didn't *feel like* working out that day but the business world doesn't care how you feel when there's a job to be done and expectations. If I had a bet - this lowering of his Trade Value might've actually helped certain teams that perhaps couldn't afford him before. Like, I could see my Hometown Padres making a play for him now by maybe giving up only one of their #6-10 prospects and a Top 30 prospect to get his services. The Padres - like many teams - are desperate for any Pitching they can get their hands on. As long as his Pitching Arm and Hand are good to go, he could be out on the mound far sooner with his hand hard-casted under his glove. Maybe they be even desperate enough to convert him back to a Starter. So, I wouldn't say his season is ruined just yet. If he's still on the A's past the Trade Deadline, then his season is absolutely over.

This might be the dumbest take on an injury for a professional athlete. As a former pitcher myself, former national hockey player for 22 years… he can definitely still play MLB Ball with a broken finger on his non-throwing hand. They can inject his finger with a steroid, a numbing cream and isolate the finger to fit in to the glove or cut a hole in the glove where the finger goes and tape over it to protect it from the outside. He’s a right-handed thrower, this makes no sense to say his season is over. He could throw next week if trainers demanded it.

I've lost my temper many times and hit things, but never hard enough to break a bone - even a finger bone. When your hands are worth millions to you, it's the height of stupidity to hit anything with them. I'm an IT guy and my hands are how I do my job but they're not worth millions to me, they simply keep a roof over my head (feeding the family comes from my wife's paycheck because mine is piss poor, comes from working for a shitty offshore contracting company.) If my hands were worth millions, you'd better believe I'd be damned careful with them. Most pitchers if they're lucky last a decade, a very few last longer, and you need to grab it while you can. Wrecking your hand like that? That's beyond stupid.
