In today's episode we're in Ystad in the very south of Sweden, at a place called Möllers Bryggeri, where they offer an eating challenge with a difference...
If you've got the stones, you can order up their massive Aggakaga challenge; a giant egg cake containing forty eggs, topped with roasted pork flesk and lingonberries. The meal costs 385kr but if you can finish it inside an hour, you get it ON THE HOUSE as well as a spot on their wall of fame!

Cheeky midweeker for you folks! Hope you’re all doing well and thanks as always for coming back… Today it’s the third and final episode from Sweden and we’re eating something with slightly rude sounding name. Hope you enjoy it and I’ll be back Sunday at 7pm! *Currently somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean so I’ll get involved in the comments when I get the chance ❤

Why Swedes use DL,CL, Kryddmått etc. comes from 1940-50's when the government wanted to build "folkhemmet". With new rules for housing, healthcare, alcohol and so on came also a cookbook called "Vår Kokbok", almost every swede has a copy. it got published with the thought that if we all had kitchens, all hade enough food and we all knew how to cook food, noone would be starving. In that cookbook was with every recipe the exact measures to cook/bake something. There for everone started to use deciliter, centiliter, etc. . and now we all use theese measures in our recipes.

A normal recipe for äggkaka adjusted to 40 eggs: 40 eggs 1.4 L of wheat flour 3.4 L of whole milk Äggkaka isn't an omelette but a really egg heavy pancake batter. You get full instantly whenever you eat it. It's crazy that you were able to do it.

So happy you got to challenge the äggakaka. I make it for the family now and then, but a 10 egg cake and 400g of stekfläsk (it's basically salted pork belly) is enough to feed four people. Btw, the lingonberry should be prepared by stirring the berries with sugar without heating, until the sugar is melted. Store it in a jar with a cinamon stick for a couple of days, for extra yumminess. If you come to Sweden again, you might like to try the "pitepalt" challenge, which is a very serious competition indeed.

Ystad actually is the area where all the famous Wallander Detective novels written by Henning Mankell take place, but serving 40 eggs in one meal is definitely a crime on its own 🥚😁😊. Glad you honored this part of Sweden with your appearance 👍🇸🇪. Music choice within your videos is brilliant like all the rest of it. Maximum pleasure sitting at the table with you 🍽️😊.

One must always drink milk to äggakaka (its a regional food in soutest part of Sweden). This is my recipe on eggcake, it gives 2 portions for a normal person. 4 eggs 3 tablespoons of sugar a pinch of salt and pinch of bakingsoda 2 dl flour 5 dl milk 1 dl cream Mix it all together and let it stand for 30 min (this is what my father says, but probably no need) Then you fry it in a pan, make sure it doesnt burn, when it starts to settle in the bottom/middle, then you have to flip it around using a plate, so the top also get fried in the pan. I usually use bacon for it, but "fläsk" is the choice when eating it at restaurants and so on.

How sweet ^.^ I am from Denmark, and we eat "egg cake" too. It has nothing to do with the traditional association with cake. It's scrabbled eggs, but instead of scrambling it, you let it cook flat on the pan. Egg, salt, peber. And we add bacon/flæsk and lots of chives. I love how deceiving it is 😂

Yeah I know about the imperial weirdness, that worm infested aborted fetus of a measuring system is an abomination for sure. My point is that even among the metric countries measuring in deciIiters is rather uncommon. Measuring in liters or milliliters is far more common.

Æggekage is really delicious. though the topping is a bit different in the area of Denmark im from. we would typically have it with tomatosslices and chives on top, and then either this same type of bacon as in this video, but typically more crispy cooked, or normal crispy bacon slices. it also goes really well on a slice of rye bread. some people also uses slices of potato on top instead of tomatos.

In this challenge, the lingonberries were stirred with sugar and rested for a while, usually in perforated containers. In Swedish it's called rårörda lingon. The pork was pork belly strips and it might have been salted as a means to preserve it. In Swedish it's caleld sidfläsk.
