I sure did. I did some with a little garlic butter and onion. Very yummy. Next year I’ll make sure to take them a little each week or so from my plants so I can enjoy them through the summer. 🤤

You also eat them as sasme boil water cook them 1 to 2 minutes. Then put them in cold water. Then eat with soy sauce and lemon or lime.

Great job!👍Often the broken ones will heal over and store well.🙂

Thank you!!! I’m hoping that is the case. I did put a few In the storage pile just to experiment and see how long they last but my husband is eating the split ones up at record speed so I don’t know if they’ll even make it to winter. Guess I’ll need to plant double the slips next year.

Dont stress over the temp and humidity when curing your potatoes. They will be fine. Sweet potatoes are grown all over the world and we all have different climates. Just keep them dry and cool and you will get better tasting potatoes every time, better than any store bought one. Great to see you having fun (even in the cold wet conditions) digging up your harvest. Its always a gamble whether its going to be a good one or not. You done well. The broken ones will cure over the end and will store, but the other ones need to be eaten soon. Enjoyed your video. 👍

Thank you for the lovely comment. I do tend to overthink thinks. I always want to get things just right but then I remember things grow and do their thing without help from me all the time. Sweet potatoes are so much fun to grow. I’ve already started working on expanding the bed for them next year so I can plant more. Thanks for the tips on storage but my husband and daughter and eating them up pretty quickly so I don’t think I’ll even get to test out how long they store. Hehe definitely way better than store bought. Thank you for your encouragement and please stay in touch. 😊❤️

You did amazing! Gardening always had a learning curve. This was my first year as well. I only planted four slips but I got a lot of sweet potatoes! I planted in the ground. I did not fertilize at all. My ground had some decomposing leaves on it for almost a year so that helped. But the ground was really compacted and a lot of clay so I didn’t think the potatoes would grow at all. But they did great and I was very pleased. tThey are so nutritious and I have enough to last me a year if not more
@jencordial2 жыл бұрын
Wow. That’s awesome. Four slips created a lot of food for you. That is fantastic for your first year. It really is something when you do very little and end up with a lot when gardening. It pushes you to do more the next time around. I’m very happy you did so well. Thanks for the lovely comment. Please stay in touch. Happy gardening to you!!❤️😊

The roots down the vines will make small sweet potatoes when given enough time. It's always smart to check along those vines and you can propagate pretty much anywhere along the vines and over winter them indoors as house plants. Sweet potatoes are so yummy! The splits will heel, it's normally from an influx of water, sweet potatoes themselves can grow and grow and grow forever given their proper growing climate 😁 Awesome Harvest!
@jencordial2 жыл бұрын
Oh wow. I had no idea I could’ve brought some inside to overwinter. I would’ve loved that. I’ll definitely be doing that next year. Thank you

greetings from Indonesia my friend, how many months does it take for sweet potatoes to be harvested?
@jencordial2 жыл бұрын
Hi 👋My friend from Indonesia. It can take anywhere from 90 to 120 days depending on the variety. So about 3-4 months. ❤️😊

You did great! Isn't it like Christmas when you dig them because you never know what your gonna get. Practice makes perfect you'll get the timing right. But no pitch fork. Lol curring is overrated. Cool and dry always lay flat.
@jencordial2 жыл бұрын
Yes this was by far one of the most fun things to do in the garden this year. It is like a treasure hunt I have heard that about curing. It being my first year growing them I was trying so hard to get it just right. Thanks for the tips. I really appreciate your kind comment. 😊

I have yet to be successful at sweet potato. Was it fleaa Beatles? Seems that is what nails mine. But you got some beauties. Trying again in the spring, lol
@jencordial2 жыл бұрын
Yes absolutely. Always keep trying. As far as my pest I don’t think it was flea beetles because the holes were a bit larger than what I experienced with my eggplants and they always suffer some damage from flea beetles so I’m not sure. I’ll pay more attention to that next year. Flea beetles seem to love eggplants so maybe you could try planting some of those near your sweet potato bed as a sacrificial crop.
@philortiz75192 жыл бұрын
Is it because we're to rich in carbon in our beds that our tubers fail to fill out.? Your beds like mine just a well decomposed bed. I get same results.
@jencordial2 жыл бұрын
It’s possible. I know that it’s phosphorus that helps grow the tubers but I’ve never done any soil testing. Maybe that is something I should try but I’m always amending so it just keeps changing.
@philortiz75192 жыл бұрын
@@jencordial biochar is what I make now and use. I mix or charge it as it's said with compost teas, lactobacillus drench, and layers of shad. I catch pogies , shad and lasagna layer it with char and leafmold Char fish leafmold repeat. I do it in those big black tree tubs. I mix it into beds and compost piles. Or I have now started taking fill dirt from construction dumps and MI in it 50 50. Does wonders for bringing clay to usable. But deep mulch and continued deep mulch is just about the best for maintaining steady soil nutrients. Second full year with ruth stout on section of garden is impressive. Spring will be real test for that section. Oh again love I could go on. My main problem now is my chickens, new this year, for meat eggs and fertilizer keep turning my 4 foot wide 50 ft long beds 8 ft wide scratch all my deep mulch out. Their having a great time but it's killing me. Lol. I figure they are doing the beds good though thru winter cause I'm just feeding the soil till spring. Looking forward to more from your garden.
