The problem with warthunder is that it doesn't take shell weight into consideration. The sheer mass of the t30 rounds would cause spalling and damage to the vehicle, not to mention armor overmatching would occur.
@KillerSniper5511 ай бұрын
I’m glad someone said it. The armour would legitimately shatter even if the shell didn’t go through.

Another thing about the T30 and it's slower velocity. I've noticed that it does pretty well long distance against slopped armor because it has a higher arc of trajectory and hits at a much more favorable angle.

@petrkdn822411 ай бұрын
nah, its just the caliber. Overmatch begins to take effect the higher the tank round caliber is, the more it ignores angled armor. For example the ISU152 with 166mm pen APCBC (caliber 152mm) can penetrate a jumbo and a panther through the UFP up to 3km. Its just the massive caliber not the shell angling downwards. Even with relatively slow rounds, at 1km the drop is like 1 to 2°
@notbappo243511 ай бұрын
@@stradarada To give you a concept of just how in depth war thunders simulation is, every map has an atmosphere, atmospheric pressure, takes in consideration the heat and cold of the map (ESPECIALLY noticeable in air battles, of course.), the added weight of bringing more fuel, the added weight of ammunition in both tanks and planes (meaning as you fire your guns in a plane, you do get slightly more manoeuvrable), and many many more things. One thing war thunder isn't praised for while it should be is its physics engine because it does A LOT of background stuff. If the function from IRL would matter in a game like this, rest assured its simulated in game.

According to Wikipedia, if you can even trust that, the Shell was 95 LBs, the round was 40 LBs, and the total weight was 134 LBs, which was hard for two people to wield inside the turret. Which gave it a fire rate of 2 rounds per minute or a 30-second reload. So maybe Gaijin got this right. Doubt we can know for sure without talking to test crews on the real tank.
@ChrisRand-gf7lz11 ай бұрын
The 155mm gun on the T30 was a modified howitzer and the army did find that while the AP was lacking performance for its size, the HE round was devastating when used in a direct fire application.
@legogenius166711 ай бұрын
And in my experience in WT with this thing, HE is a very viable anti-tank round. The effect is the same as a small air-dropped bomb exploding directly on the tank, it's not always reliable but if it does hit the right spot, the target is simply gone. When I face IS-6s I load HE most of the time lol. The T30 plays like a 6.7 KV-2.

Gas evacuation is also important with bigger guns. Because hot gas left in the barrel is lower pressure, the atmosphere prevents it from escaping, so it must be forced out with a pressurized flow from the breech end. Otherwise, opening the breech would flood the tank or crew compartment and turn it into an oven.

The best part about this thing is at round start you can take aim slightly outside the enemy spawn with an HE shell, and once you get good with it, you will pretty consistently track someone or kill a light tank once you get the spawn ranges right. Since, the velocity is barely low enough you can do indirect fire.

Fun fact almost nobody knows is that if your round does about 200+ mm of pen there is a little cheeky trick shot on the Is-3+ variants between the barrel and the mantlet if you hit right in the middle it’ll penetrate and take out at least the gunner or cannon breach (mostly takes out the breach) and then you have time to go around and get a side shot on it. It’s a tricky shot but if you do it right it’ll pay off.

T30 is primarily an HE tosser, very effective that way, especially at long range. I carry all three shells with HE primary; AP is best against certain heavy tanks at certain angles where HE may not make a kill shot: side shots with AP will work when HE won't; head ons with HE under the enemy tank barrel will usually kill that heavy tank. This is also a good tank to bring out when in a match there are only a few tanks still in the game and the chances of meeting a double enemy attack is minimal.
