That’s probably not far off. If you remember Heihachi’s prologue in Tekken 4, the guy was working on a project with the Devil Gene and Ogre’s DNA. I’m guessing he added his own to this project, and Reina was created.

Reina : Mom's Gene and Beauty (Probably) Dad's Fighting Skill and Attitude

If Reina is meant to represent duality, it kind of checks out with one small detail being how her lightning is both purple and yellow. Purple being darkness and yellow being light. It’s literally the color scheme of Kazuya’s enhanced devil gene and Jin’s purifying light energy at the very end of the game. Even the big clash they have where the resulting explosion creates an image of purple and yellow “wings” is a nod to the birth of Reina’s eventual awakening and I believe it was very intentional.

I hate this retcon with a passion. First, Hirada retcons the Mishima grandpa from being a devil gene descendent to just being possessed by a devil, then he takes the devil gene away from the Mishima line and gives it to Kasumi, a whole other plot he made up that didn't go anywhere nor matter in the end. So now I have no idea what to think aside it feels like when Dragonball Super retconned the Sayain's long established means of becoming Super Sayain to just be a tingling feeling and varies genetically (because they didn't want to take the time to build those characters up). There is no explanation why Reina has the devil gene as she isn't connected to Kasumi nor is it part of the Mishima line anymore, but she sure knew all she needed to do was get "seriously" hurt in order to trigger it like a McGuffin. They didn't bother to take the time to establish her but thrust her in acting too much like Heihachi to almost where she was a female skin in ways. I'm also not sure why she is so devoted to him when the man was a piece of crap to his son, grandson and adopted son. If it tries to say he spent time with her and kind, Harada needs to be pitched off a mountain himself. I can get it if a daughter having daddy issues, but that's still a weak premise for motivation compared Kazuya or Jin. I keep repeating the game feeling rushed, but her story definitely felt like it from her introduction and right at the end of the game becoming a devil. I guess they want to establish her as the boss in the next game quick as possible, but I just don't see the impact other than finding out she's another illegitimated kid like Lars, but pro-Heihachi. Something I read said he may have something like 23 kids out there lol! I'm more surprised Harada used the same plot device twice. An unrelated thing that confused me is that if the Kazama style was able to cleanse the devil gene or regress it in some way, why did Asuka not have a bigger role and just play the goofy rivalry bit with Emilie? The story in the game felt all over the place aside cool moments, but with weird editing cuts and things going here and there, maybe it is true story is the last thing on Harada's mind. I say this as Tekken had one of the stronger stories in fighting games.

Yeah, I remember in the Tekken 5 days, where it was stated that it was the Devil Gene that awakened Jinpachi, and made him omnicidal. Now, it's just a random demonic entity.

Harada made it seem like it was just a random demon, not like the one with Kazuya or Jin, but with what's in Tekken 8, it seems like there are demons all coming from Azazel and can possess anyone? I've no idea, but it no longer seems unique if going that direction. Kazuya's level of control once seemed unique, now it may be something Reina just needed to tap into for some random reason, as if a bloodline thing. Makes no sense.

U don't play Tekken for the story 😅 The story is just outrageous and makes zero sense with every Tekken release. I mean u have bears, robots and even baby dinosaurs that have trained in martial arts. It's all meant to be ridiculous and fun. Reina is a fun character because she is in essence heihachi 😅 I admit I miss that bald monstrosity that was heihachi. But reina has filled that void. Reina is awesome! Don't let the story mean anything to u. Just enjoy the characters. They are all stupendous and that's what makes it fun

There is nothing scary about some Gen Z girl with daddy issues. She is literally what i make fun on regular basis in real life And she is overrated in power too. Everyone ignores Jin was basically sick and walking like he was gonna collapse even when they first met each other. They all ignore that Jin is weakened till he fixes his relationship with his Devil. It wasnt just that he couldn't turn Devil,we see again and again that he is effectively sick. He breaths heavily like he is excausted,he walks like he is older than Wang etc Its exactly like how Zuko couldnt properly firebend due to his conflict till he met the dragons. Jin was well below his NATURAL human levels. And despite that Jin was about equal to Reina,even beating her before she catches him ofguard which triggers the Devil Gene. This is also a few days after put in a COMA and getting destroyed by Kazuya He even looks like he is getting a heart attack while simply practicing and Alisa runs to his aid. All simps ignored all of this and basically choose to believe that Reina is stronger than Base Jin,she is not. Now onto the True Devil Kazuya thing. First off,Lars was also able to hold his own against True Devil and in Tekken 6 it was shown that he is still on only equal to Base Jin and Base Kazuya. When True Devil was fighting Reina its confirmed he hadnt gotten used to his power yet. He later says to Azazel inside him that "Everything he has will be his",before both his eyes glow red. Meaning his form was essentially still "loading" if you will. Reina even asks him if this is the entirety of Azazels power and Kazuya looks at his hand like he is wondering the same. Second off this still weak and not used to his power True Devil was being casual against Reina. The True Devil form only reaches its peak in the final fight against Angel Jin So even a STRONGER True Devil than the one that Reina fought,still had issues against Lars. In her character intro against Kazuya they clash fists,and they are equal even though Reina used more momentum and jumped from a distance. In Reinas ending she only beats Kazuya cause Kuma gives her a bit of help. Even that ending implies Kazuya is a bit stronger than her. So overall Base Kazuya is atleast slightly stronger than Reina,and much stronger than her in Devil form. In her true ending Base Kazuya is still confident at the prospect of fighting her even though this is probably after her feats. Lastly her fight against Nina. Its basically a remake of Heihachi vs Nina but Reina wasnt as dominant as Heihachi was. Further proof of what i am saying Reina is on a similar level but somewhat weaker than the male Mishimas. As she SHOULD. In fact she should be much weaker but because woke stuff she is nearly equal to them

Honestly I think, Reina is weaker than the other fighters and I think she knows it too. Throughout the story I've noticed she practically has ZERO self preservation at points especially when she basically goes come at me bro when she took Devil Kazuya's laser. I think throughout the whole story she was trying to get stronger by unlocking her devil gene which as Tekken 3 showed us seems to be unlocked when you're on the cusp of death. It'd make sense with everything we've seen of her so far. Or maybe I'm just trying to make sense of dumb writing I don't know it's just something that popped into my head recently.
