Grew up in PA, started hunting 3 years ago at 30 years old and basically learned everything I know from watching your Mountain buck scouting series. Just moved to the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia about a month ago and won't have much time to do any scouting before the season so this video was great

The wind is very hard to master in the hills of Virginia...I have been hunting these hills for almost 30 years....the wind changes every 5 seconds in these hills!

In the mountains where i live it's 360 wind all day. I just wear wool and try and keep scent control good. But I always get bucks within 100 wheeze and run off.

East kentucky here on the Virginia line i just basically ignore the wind these days after tagging a few big boys while smoking a Marlboro its just impossible to predict how it blows it can be east where i am and 50 yards away be going west or swirling

Love this stuff. VA mountain hunting is tough due to the steep terrain and lower deer density, but it can be rewarding since bucks can get grow to an older age. Getting them out is not easy either - no ATVs allowed. Unless you have a horse, the next best way to get them out is to pack em out. All that makes for the some of the best memories.

Low deer density? Definitely not.

Drug one up mnt in Va for 6 hrs when I got back to camp the old timers ask where I got it they laughed and said I was few hundred yards down hill to the switch back road we didn’t have ONX in 1988 😂 but it was a great memory and my first good buck with a bow and Baker death trap climber. Went back few years ago have no idea how I did it so steep you have to pull yourself up using mnt laurel but I was 22 little better shape.great memories!!

Good information. Deer gravitate to edges in general of any kind.Broken terrain is the best type of areas to hunt.Big open woods where you can see far is better for hunters than deer.

I've noticed that bucks travel about halfway up the hills. They travel across the hillsides.
