I love that you never let the weight of the competition dictate your choices. There is not gonna be a single flake of snow in the challenge, but you want a snow truck and gosh darn it you're gonna put that winch in the back and make it a snow truck. Beautiful.

do not run a Land Rover turbo diesel engine on a oil bath filter. it can suck the oil up and run away. don't ask me how I know.

Install a positive air shut off before the turbo just incase it tries to run away. All diesels should have positive air shut offs.

p38 steering box pitman arms do not point straight ahead when the steering is in the straight ahead position. there is a plastic pointer on the input shaft the lines up with a groove on the box at the 9 o'clock position. loving this build as it very similar to my series 2a 88

This is turning into an awesome build. These old Land Rovers have the rollover protection of a Radio Flyer wagon so I'm sure you're going to build an awesome roll cage at some point. Your theory of weight distribution is interesting and makes sense.

Nate, for the panhard bracket you could add a bolt on brace that uses the same holes as the gearbox, that ways its removable, yet adds the strength to make you comfortable
@DirtLifestyle
@DirtLifestyle Күн бұрын
This is exactly what I came up with! I hope I have time to build it this week but the plan is to have a unbolt-able brace that will go around the steering box 👍
@auldman

I was confused how the panhard bracket and gearbox shared the same location. Then, when Nate stated the “steering box” it made sense.

The Land Rover 101 forward control had a cool PTO driven winch that could pull from the front or back. It basically runs the cable to the back bumper through a block and back out the front, so you can pull the cable out the front or pull the loop out the back of the rig for a double line pull. I saw one a long time ago and thought it was a cool concept but can’t really find any good pics or videos of the full setup. You mounting the winch in the back reminded me of it and might be a cool idea to be able to utilize the single mounted winch out the front or back

A tip regarding Series Rover oil baths and deep wading. If a cloud of blue smoke comes out of your exhaust while wading shut the engine down right away, the air filter is filling with water and it is displacing oil into the intake. Treat it as an early warning.

I would still trade my rig for yours instantly lol. Love these videos man, its also the channel that has probably motivated me the most over the years to just get s*** done one way or another. Thanks for all the knowledge and setting a good example to building capable and safe rigs.

Looks awesome man. I live in Finland and we have an Arctic Trucks shop just 15mins away from where I live. I still remember when I saw a Toyota Hilux built by Arctic Trucks for the first time in my life. It was out of this world. Nowadays they're alot more common here, but much more tamer than the "genuine" AT44 that I saw like 15-20 years ago. I really hope the build goes well, take care man.

@hotshtsr20 That would be a nice option as well. I believe his mount, and coil bucket are welded on. A nice strip of 1/4" coming off the top of the mount and reaching up to the bucket side gussets would look slick. Add a couple holes in it for decoration and 🤌

Nate the rust converter primer works excellent. It is a “moisture cure” paint. Meaning it sucks every molecule of h2o up as the paint dries. Rust must have moisture to happen, the product takes that away. An oil film does the same thing. However no paint product works over a dirty oily substrate. So clean with wax and grease remover brake clean whatever. Go ahead and wash part if you like, then rust convert. I love POR-15 myself. READ THE LABEL! Most of these conversion products require TOPCOAT ING! So spray your converter, most of these products turn black. Wait hour or so then rattle can or spray with your favorite topcoat. I have cars I sprayed with rust converter then painted with sealer, base, clear PPG over 30 years ago and they still look great.
