Impressive energy density in that package. I've used SLA batteries about that size and you only get about 72Wh on them (and they're probably a lot heavier too). 1000Wh in that same package, with 2000W peak/1000W continuous current is INSANE (typically, the downside to using LiPo, or similar, batteries is that the current you can pull from them is substantially lower than less energy-dense alternatives).

I got the 880 watt/hour one from Costco as a packaged deal that came with a 280 and a couple of solar panels. I got the big one for a sick elderly parent who relies on an oxygen concentrator to you know...stay alive. Unfortunately the concentrator pulls about 600 watts give or take and has a high inrush current when started so it's not enough to handle the big machine for anything other than a small outage while someone else is there with him to move it to the area with the machine, etc. For his portable OxyGo machine however, this thing will easily add an extra 11 hours and that's on the highest setting. Best part is that we can use the cigarette lighter port so it's just DC to DC and doesn't waste energy on converting to AC and then back down to DC. So far, he's had two 6 hour power outages and we've made use of this thing. He can drag his little machine to where we have this set up next to his chair and plug it in and not use too much energy. I do wish that they made these like a UPS power supply where you could just leave the big machine plugged into it and it would automatically kick on when the power goes out. I would have spent the extra $1000 to get the 2000 watt unit if they had something like that and it would buy him an extra 3 hours on his main machine but these are not really set up like that. It has pass-through mode but it will destroy the batteries if used like that.

These things are super useful, especially for the lay person. But personally I've been swapping everything I can to DC/USB. Because you're usually paying a premium just for the included AC inverter. And obviously there are losses going from DC to AC to DC. You can get a genuine 40,000 mAh USB powerbank for like $30 now. If you buy a couple of those, some USB stand fans (there's some large and good ones now days), usb lights, usb step-up cable to 12v for router, modem etc. For those on a tighter budget or striving for efficiency, there's better ways than these all-in-one battery units. But for pure convenience and for short-duration, heavy power loads, those all-in-one batteries are neat 👍
@RobCarter044 жыл бұрын
No, what you're really paying for is the cells and design to handle hundreds of watts of output. Those cheapo powerbanks are using low current cells and don't have the circuitry to handle more that ~15W output continuously. If you want useful at least compare it to a model with USB-PD capable of charging at laptop at 45-60W or so.

Okey, it will look a little bit more "home depot" but it's definitely doable. All this thing has going is that it's ready to use, safetytested and comes in a handy package.

Fun fact: you can run a PC solely on batteries directly as switch mode supplies actually convert the AC from the wall straight into DC as the first step. If you took 10 or so 12v car batteries and hooked it into your PC's PSU it would boot and run like normal.

The 500 with one solar panel is all you need if you want to use it camping or emergencies. Will keep your laptop up with ease. You'll need a generator that can put out way more watts than the 1000 if you want something for real emergencies. ( Freezers/Refrigerators ) It will keep your phones charged and can be used for some medical devices if needed. The 500 is much less weight and works as a light much better too. The 1000 needs two panels to charge from zero in a day most of the time and is way over kill for most weekend warriors. For the price of the 1000 and panels you could buy the 500 with a panel and a gas/propane generator ( 3000 watts or more ) and still have money to spare. That 1000 is more for those doing van life or expecting the end of the power grid and no fuel for weeks on end. Hope this helps a few of you out there that are on a budget.

So it's basically just a giant car jumpstart pack (with lower peak output) + AC inverter.. in a more convenient formfactor I mean, yeah that's cool and if you're made of money and like camping, would be great to have. But you could make a DIY version using a car battery or two for power storage, lasting longer and allowing higher peak draw, while costing less. It could even jump start your car! (obviously) Lead acid battery, DC-AC inverter, One of those in car 12V socket -> USB power hubs for the 5V output + some heavy wiring, fuses/shut off switch for safety, can be rather cheap if you're thrifty. Hardest part would be getting/adapting/making an appropriate enclosure, I'd recommend with a little PC fan for ventilation while on, too

@Artyomthewalrus4 жыл бұрын
Yep, they do. The outlier is the capacity. Anker's largest power bank is 400 wh. This is 1000 wh, completely dwarfing it (to an unnecessary level for most people). Most companies generally max out at around 400-500wh. There are very few companies that produce them of this size, but they do exist (yeti is really the biggest competitor with a bank of this size) It's a real niche product, and a very expensive product. I live off the grid for 5-6 months of the year, so I've been researching these on and off for over 2 years. (never bought one, because of the price)

@@Artyomthewalrus Anker's units are ballpark comparable to the lower-end Jackery units. Anker's 388 Wh unit can output 300W and costs $400, while Jackery's 518 Wh unit can output 500W and costs $500.
