you should get people around your studio to make you color swatches and have them greyscale it for you so you dont even know what the colors you are dealing with until the art is done. If you dont know what to draw, have the people doing the colors give you art prompts and pull it from a hat.

I found it interesting when you mentioned coloring differently when you color in b&w vs color. TV used to be the same. A lot of black and white TV show sets were all sorts of odd colors so they looked correct in Black and White. Lone rangers mask was purple, the tardis console was light green, the Adams Family interior set was mostly bright colors, pink, yellow, reds.
@TheBlakus420 Жыл бұрын

I remember hearing about this in the behind the scenes of WandaVision-how they went back to the old school way of doing things for the black and white episodes. Like Vision’s makeup was dark blue instead of red because it looked better on camera. It’s just fascinating to hear how they filmed things back then.
@fasfan Жыл бұрын
Do this again... but next time color it twice. First in the b&w mode. Then before you reveal it, color it again in color the way you normally would. Then convert the b&w and compare them.

@kzcreationzmore Жыл бұрын
You should do this again but use a random color pallete generator and turn your screen to grey screne BEFORE generating it! Makes it so youll truly have no idea what colors youre using until after the art is done! You can also just look up “random color palletes” in grey scale and pick one at random that has the amount of shade diversity that you’re looking for. That way you know youll atleast get the right amount of lights and darks and most likely the color palette will have atleast some visual coherency

@Amarianee Жыл бұрын
My friend in high school saw colours just fine, until she fell out of a tree and hit her head as a kid. Then, she didn't realise that her colour perception was all jumbled until her mum saw her colouring. We would bring colouring books to drama club, to see the wonky things she did. She knew what colours were and supposed to look like, but her colours were VERY different than what everyone else saw. Yellow was green, cream was dark brown, etc. Looked right to her brain 😂
@TheBlakus420 Жыл бұрын
Woaaah
@edmundfredmund Жыл бұрын
If yellow was green in her mind - how would you know? for example she was drawing a banana (green in her mind) she would still use a yellow pen - as that would also look green to her, therefore looking the same to us. I don't think she's being very truthful - colourblindness doesn't work this way as far as I'm aware.
@Amarianee Жыл бұрын
@@edmundfredmund she's not colourblind, that's what I specifically stated. It's more than likely a type of acquired (from the head injury) dyschromatopsia.
@edmundfredmund Жыл бұрын
@@Amarianee but again, how would you know? Read my example, if her drawings were off that would mean she would be picking a different colour pen to what she sees in real life (in her eyes) really hard to word what I'm trying to say haha

@DanielLovesArt Жыл бұрын
For anyone wanting to do this, an easy way I can think of doing this is by going into your computer settings, go into colour filters, and there's a few options, one of them being greyscale, the other being greyscale inverted. You can also turn on the short cut keys so that you can turn it on and off as you wish.

I think it somewhat shows why some artists develop a preference for greyscale vs color in their art styles. I personally prefer greyscale for my own art but will do pieces in color. For me though I think it is because I developed my art style with graphite pencils before learning how to use color

2:45 I was gifted your brushes by my mom for Christmas and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying them since! I even challenged myself to complete a piece using only your brush pack, without any familiar favorites. It was new, but a great way to learn what effects the brushes have!
@johnb2127 Жыл бұрын
I think there’s something to be said for the style or genre of the piece. In my opinion, this works much better in a sci-fi esque environment as you saw with the example piece. For the most part, more cartoony and present day type things look worse because they’re less susceptible to radical colour palettes and inhuman styling, but realistic, futuristic things receive random and extreme colours really well.

I love this idea, and great job on it. Just one suggestion that I hope is good enough you'll try it again. Because you turn the saturation on the monitor down, can you record the screen internally on the computer so you can make a time lapse of the drawing in full color? This could give you, and us, the insight on how to use colors in different ways that we might not be able to due to being stuck in our learned patterns. Would love to see a side-by-side with color and B/W.
