When I was living in a vegan co-op in college, I made vegan doughnuts during the pandemic and it was a ton of effort lmao. Like the process of making (non-cake) doughnuts takes a long time and you have to fry them just right, and making the dough gluten free on top of being vegan would have taken so much experimentation. And at the local krispy kreme a specialty donut (frosted/ with unique flavors)costs $3.50 (tbf I do live in SF so prices be crazy here) so ~$5.50 per doughnut isn’t too crazy for a local, homemade vegan and gluten free specialty donut.

To be honest no one is allergic to gluten. Celiac disease isn’t a gluten allergy and only 1% of world has it. Not saying it’s not possible but unlikely. Celiac disease IS NOT likely to kill you, it’s not a deadly reaction.
@polarbearhero9803
@polarbearhero9803 7 ай бұрын
Celiac disease is not an allergy that causes an immediate allergic reaction that can kill (for example, a peanut allergy). Instead celiac causes an autoimmune reaction to occur. Once the patient eats gluten the immune system attacks the lining of the small intestine. A small of amount of gluten can destroy a large area of the small intestinal lining or a large amount of gluten can trigger a more modest loss. There is also a separate condition called gluten intolerance. So those are not killer donuts (probably). It all depends on how sick the person is already from celiac. If their small intestinal lining is already destroyed (villi are flat) it means they must be gluten free again to regrow it. The villi are how your small intestine absorbs nutrients.

As someone with a parent and sibling with severe Celiac’s disease, this is terrifying. Even if the donut simply TOUCHED other donuts labeled as gluten free, that could cause a lot of damage to my family members. Celiac’s is an autoimmune disorder that can easily be fatal, and even if not can lead to lifelong damage and even an increased risk of cancer.
