+Dslyecxi - This reduced PIP size and shape is _significantly_ better. So much easier to watch while also keeping track of what you're doing with the helicopter itself. Extra thumbs up for that.

What I love about Crane and Dslyecxi, is when they get into a situation like when they had to go get that supply truck to repair their bird, they turn into an old married couple and banter back and forth, it's heartwarming.

Ah, excellent! Time for another extended episode of the "Dsylexci and Crane Show" - wonder what philosophical musings and/or absurd hijinx our intrepid duo will share with us today? My favorite events feel as though the characters from MST3k were on set during filming, rather than reacting after. Real-time snark and commentary - there is no substitute. Well when I saw it, the one where he glided it after being hit by the Bradley but seeing the other, they're all amazing. Wouldn't be a Dslyecxi helicopter video if there wasn't a 'going down' in there.
@headrockbeats7 жыл бұрын
So true. I'm always disappointed when that _doesn't_ happen at least once in a helicopter video. You know he's going to stick the landing, the question is how awesome it's going to be this time. :) That's why I love ":Clint:" so much - by far the worst situation and best recovery Dslyecxi's ever had, IMHO. +Dslyecxi - A helicopter tactics question: I remember plenty of older videos where, in order to deal with AA threats, you and others have used the trees for cover to maneuver around and pop up for a quick shot - which made a lot of sense and often seemed very effective. Is there a specific reason why you didn't use similar maneuvers here to deal with the Bradleys? Does that not work anymore / is not applicable in the particular situation in this mission / some other reason?
@dslyecxi7 жыл бұрын
The angles involved made it impractical. Getting low drastically cut sight lines, trees were tall, and the clearings were small. Popping up would thus mean being very close to an enemy threat that could easily disappear again.
@headrockbeats7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. That makes sense.

On some of these missions do the enemy AI just spawn in over time and move to the area of operation? Or are they just waiting to move in over time? Been quite curious about this the past few videos.
@dslyecxi7 жыл бұрын
You can't have many AI active in Arma without performance going to hell, so we spawn them in as needed.
@Speedy66177 жыл бұрын
They have one or several game masters that spawn in AI thruout the mission. They also make the AI react to events faster and more realistic.

PvE are what most of his videos are, at least lately, and he's stated that he prefers PvE, which is why those are what he mostly uploads. Each video states what it is at the start; 'Co-op' for PvE, and 'Adversarial' for PvP.

Maybe next time. They should try the P variant with lots of guided missiles, so it's fun for both :P

I'm no expert but the damage model of the KA-52 seems to be a little too forgiving. I'm aware that attack helos tend to have some armour around some of the most vital components but the fact that this helo seemed to be able to eat a few 25mm shells before taking catastrophic damage seems wrong to me.

Another landing gear down video... lol
@dslyecxi7 жыл бұрын
You do realize that there's no case to be made for landing gear up, right? I don't understand how people can make this comment - the only thing that explains it is that anyone saying that hasn't flown in Arma with regularity.
@DavidGPT7 жыл бұрын
Actually, I have 741 hours of Arma 3 and probably 70% is flying helicopters.The landing gear beig down doesn't bother me, but when I'm flying an aircraft, whether it be arma 3, DCS, X-Plane or any game really it feels unnatural having a retractable gear not retracted. It was just something I noticed.
@dslyecxi7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but why? Consider any situation where you're low to the ground and have to autorotate. Do you really want to remember to put the gear down? There's no actual FM benefit to having it up, the only downside is that it can slightly block the sensor view at times, but that's trivially resolved. The upside is that keeping the gear extended means one fewer item to go through when an emergency happens.
@DavidGPT7 жыл бұрын
I'm not saying its a bad thing having the landing gear down the entire flight. I just commented on it because its so natural to me that as soon as I get a positive rate of climb at takeoff I retract the landing gear and as soon as I know I'm gonna get in touch with the ground (emergency or not) I naturally lower the landing gear and don't even think about it. It doesn't bother me and that doesn't make your flights and videos better or worse. After all, it's just a landing gear.
