Dissecting the golf swing takes a keen eye, and you have it. Most people just want quick fixes, but the golf swing, if perfected, takes all the components of the body to be in sync, and the mind plays a key role as well, which if learned, can all become mostly subconscious in effort. LOVE the content!!

It is always a pleasure to listen to Chris speak. If he ever gets tired of teaching golf, he can always teach public speaking, I am sure. He's a very smart guy who knows golf and knows how to communicate. His videos are always informative and he makes every word count - never any empty babbling from this man. Since I have learned so much about the game of golf from his videos, I felt I had to take a brief moment to recommend Chris Ryan to anyone not familiar with his videos. That's all.

One of your best videos, and you are spot on! From an engineering perspective it’s called parametric acceleration. The negative comments probably come from people not understanding gravity, centrifugal and centripetal forces in the golf swing. Players need to understand the importance of stance and posture along with no tension to allow this acceleration and these forces to happen in the golf swing. Love your content!

The difference (for me) between doing what you say in this video is 135 yard 7-iron (without doing it) and a 160 yard 7-iron (by doing it). It fixes early extension too as you point out. Thanks for explaining the concept so well.

Chris, the problem I have is timing the transition from hands low at last parallel to pushing up with legs through impact. I either stay low too long and hit the ball fat, or push up too early and hit the ball thin.
@ChrisRyanGolf

Hey Jeff, yeah I’d say that’s probably the most difficult part of this, too early or late and the strike won’t be there. If the movement is good then it’s just reps and practice

First time it's been explained so explicitly for me. I think is one key element that I've been missing while re-tooling my swing. It should lead to greater club head speed as per your demonstration at the beginning of the video. Thank you!

Forget the naysayers but thankful for them because that's why you made this video. This whole concept lead to a big improvement in my swing when I discovered it last year. Went away from it because I'm a constant tinkerer but in some ways elements of it are still in my swing. This concept also breaks down how getting hips open is not simply trying to open them as fast as possible. The club arms etc need to be in sync with the pivot. Get the hands down to the right leg then you can almost turn that hip up and "open" as fast as you want by standing up on the left leg.

The people who dont understand this probably don't hit the ball far and accurate. This is part of the 'whip' and how to hit the ball far. Chris, isn't the handle not only moving up but also in (around to the left for a righty)?

I love this stuff. People have been saying "the golf swing is not a base ball swing" since before I was alive! And YET, it is so similar that the argument is losing ground. Technique, yes, different but length of bat, yes, different but the mechanics the theory (small mouth) the same. The most speed generated is from pulling the bat away from the ball. Anyways, thanks for your content. You have helped me a bunch these last couple of weeks!

I saw a CR vid with this wrist hinge change a few months ago & when I used it I got an instant speed and distance gain. From 130 / 140yds with 7iron I now usually hit 160/170yds and hope to be around 180 as my flow, tempo and rotation develops. There seems to be only a few other golf pro's highlighting this and the best example I saw referred to this as the "hitchiker" move - the thumb on the lead hand points up in the back swing (palm facing behind) and ends up pointing up after follow through (palm facing forward).

I have looked carefully at the swings ofJessica Korda, Tommy Fleetwood. and Xander Schauffele. At no time do these players lower their hands in the downswing to a point lower than where they are at address. It is true that after the hands pass the impact or address position , the hands rise while the club descends. This action virtually guarantees that you will have a great hip rotation and weight shift on the forwards foot.
@ChrisRyanGolf
@ChrisRyanGolf Жыл бұрын
Hey William, tough one to respond to as only have a few lines of text. The hands may not seem lower, but I was referencing the grip end of the club, which I believe would be lower at some point with those players when hitting an iron, for some it’s very slight, maybe a cm or so, can be difficult to see but the data is there. You say that the hands do not get lower but they go up after impact whilst the club is going down, by definition this would mean that none of the players mentioned would be able to take a divot after the ball, but they all do, if the hands are going up and the club head is lower post impact it would only be possible to have a defending strike if there were less shaft lean at impact than address, and that isn’t the case. Just really difficult to see at full speed or even at slow speed 🙏🏻

This move does not happen bcus you do it "actively". You're just confusing more people by saying that. This move happens bcus your left shoulder goes down, up and around as you open up and extend through finish with soft wrist arms and shoulders. Any "active" action in your swing will increase tension, decrease speed and produce poor contacts.
