I found the fence building playlist, thank you. Your concrete project came out great. Now you have a yard you can use. On the fence building... Over the years I had many post pounders. The best one was one that had railway rails welded to the sides. The best trick I learned from an old timer I never start my posts upright. I place the ground point of the T post where I want to pound it, then I lean the post down and side the pounder over the post while it is down at an angle then I put the post and pounder up verticle. This saves the arms attached in 1951.

That's a good idea about lining them up with the wire. And using the length (2x) of the T-posts to measure the distance apart. I have to stand on a stool to pound my T-posts in, but it's a good arm workout. :)

I'll be doing my first ever fencing project this spring and I'll bet I would have tore myself up trying to stretch barbed wire. But now, my sons can look at me in astonishment when I grab a hold of the middle of the section and stretch it like a pro! Going to plow into some other videos I saw you have about fencing. Esplly glad that your teenager found the time to help your with your chores, it's really awesome! He's learning a lot, too, about keeping the farm safe for the animals you keep. And Houston is awesome, too, being happy and enjoying himself with those few snow balls he's made. I bet when he gets the chance to be somewhere where snow is thick, he'll have a really tremendous time playing with it! Anyways, i'll be waiting for your next videos, as always. 'Till then!

When i was in the 9th grade we had 2 sets of twins in our class. Very unusual there was only one 9th grade in the school and only 18 kids in the class. The sister's were paternal and the brother's were maternal twins. The girls did not look alike but the boys look just alike until you got to know them. Thanks for the barb wire tip, never knew that. Wish we had a couple of 16 years old's to put up fence. As they say the old gray mare is not what she used to be.

Daniel, good tip on pulling barbed wire tight! that is very useful information. guess building a fence is a process one phase at a time. I have seen some kind of rig ya put on the back of a tractor to roll out a big roll of fencing making it more manageable in putting up the fencing.. hope you and your brother have good success with your fence! Tell Houston its snowing up here in Utah maybe we could send him some more to build a snowman or a snowshute to sled on. till your next video take care.

fence construction a very big debate. we have found to include a wood post every 5 posts of the run. best answer a young friend was looking at a fence on that he bought. just happened both his father-in-law and I were there. the fence was leaning with the wind. I told him after the 1st year a wood post would help the fence stand straight (the steel posts would help the wood post the 1st year). he looked at me half cock-eyed crazy, his father-in-law said he's right.

I've been forced to help build fences my whole life. With many different people. Grandpa, dad, uncle... and never i have i seen thw wire streached in the middle. Do you have any idea how miles of fence rows I've walked with a peice of rebar to twist the wire back tight again! I can't belive my papaw didn't do this 🤦🏻‍♀️

@ArmsFamilyHomestead
@ArmsFamilyHomestead 5 жыл бұрын
It really just depends on the type of fence and distance. I am just building short runs here so I'm not adding any midline tension posts. With barbed wire you can go quite a long distance if it's flat ground. With a woven wire I would put a stretch post at least every 5-600 feet.

So I have a fencing question. Can I stretch to an angled corner, staple to the wood double H Brace there. Then continue to the next corner, staple there and keep going? Or will I need to cut and wrap at every corner even the angled one. When I say angled, it's not 90 degrees, maybe 45 degrees.

They didn't seem to bend at all when I drove them in but I did notice a little rust. Hope I didn't mess this up, definitely wasn't Sheffield brand, they were Franklin Ind. The lady wanted me to put in a few T posts so we could put a piece of fence to keep the dog from pulling the tomatoes off the plants. I hated putting in T posts 'cause the driver makes this painful CLANG right by my ears and I'm a bit "sensory." "So, how am I going to do this? Oh! Noise cancelling headphones!" Ah! Much better. The headphones reduced the clang to a nice manageable thump.
