2X material can have varying widths. How did you overcome this issue? ie 2x10 is actually 1.5 x 9 1/4 - 9 1/2

Yes it can especially pressure treated due to its moisture content. As well, it has some warping. This can be a challenge. If you are using it for a floor/deck always put the crown(high top) upwards and try to keep it consistent. Know however you are going to have dips and some waves in the deck. If you are more of a perfectionist it might be hard on your mental sanity. On an interior floor, floor I-Joists are the only way to go. They are perfectly straight and sized. But yes we do have the same issues using conventional lumber.

I did forget to mention the hangers with that the main thing is that you try to accommodate the different thicknesses by only attaching one side of the joist hanger, then placing the joist in the hanger level with the rim joist at the top, then nailing the other side of the joist hanger manually. I know it’s not perfect and it is a bit slower, but that’s the only way to do it that I can tell and yes, we did have some joists higher than others using that tool.
