I’m a support main. So I sorta agree, but at the end of the day, who is more likely to protect you? The dps or tank? Plus if the tank dies, it’s typically the end of a team fight, especially now with the strong tanks.

@@333Abs well, just mentioning the healing isn't noteworthy in and of itself. sometimes you just end up healing a lot, especially if the game is a longer one. but to me, the red flag was mentioning healing but not mentioning damage boost because it tells me they don't understand where mercy contributes a lot of unique value to the team, i.e., they don't understand Mercy's role. and if they're in masters and don't understand Mercy's role, that's a big problem.

A lot of mercy’s death could’ve been avoided, I knew this was going to be bad when mercy was on top with Ram and Bap inside that room taking damage from junkrat instead of letting bap take care of ram and mercy on soldier. Also when they got on point and zarya was less health then the mercy’s tank and he was standing behind a shield and used an ability that she still didn’t damage boost to help win the battle, another time was when mercy jumped over the wall to get cover and never entered the room behind her to get herself ready to back up. She flew to tank instead and put herself right in front of the battle. Idk being a healbot isn’t going to change the flow of the game if there teams support is helping more with damage.

@@Avsfan37 Pretty much. It's always playmaking, decision making, and constant value over stats. Many times, nobody gets picks right away because both teams are trading resources and momentum. If a tank gets impatient, overexerts, and blows up, the entire opposing team is going to get 5 kills that fight. If he does that for the whole round, it's gonna be like 25 kills for the opposing team from team wipes due to having a tank that is unnecessarily, propetually back in spawn first. If you are running a kill comp with widow and hanzo, sure you'd expect quick picks, but in a comp with cass and soldier for example, you are going to be playing slower and looking for favorable trades to capitalize on. This Mercy decided to pocket heal the tank, meaning that the opponents are able to commit a support and a dps to trade against a solo dps who is almost always going to get out traded on equal footing. Everyone has to adapt here, but the fact is the mercy is effectively forcing her team to play footsies 4v5. In the end, know your role, know your team comp, and play around that.

as a certified mercy connoisseur, i knew this gameplay would be a swell fucking treat when they didnt mention their damage boost stat. the ONLY situations when I'm bragging about my healing stat (OR EVEN MENTIONING IT AT ALL) as Mercy are when i have games with a second support with a healing allergy (i.e., "look at how much i had to carry the healing side of the supporting in this game") or when i manage to pump out a monster damage boost stat while ALSO doing a fuck ton of healing (i.e., "look at how well i managed juggling beam states during a game where my team needed a lot of healing from me") i could tell exactly what kind of mercy player had submitted their replay based on that ALONE and tbh i was disappointed by how right i was

I get that. but this is masters and top 500. dps aren't going to struggle like plat and below DPS. there's literally no excuse for this because the reasons one might play this way in lower ranks don't exist in masters and above! that's what makes me so frustrated lol

here's some substantive notes for this player: 1. your dps wont have as many deaths if you actually work with them and heal them as needed. for example, you should have saved your mei at the end of your first attack instead of just watching them die in front of you and then going to res them. your dps are your primary responsibility, but you're treating them like an afterthought. that is not how a masters mercy should be playing. 2. understand the strengths and weaknesses of mercy's healing. strength: consistent, no reloading or resource meter, can go through shields. weaknesses: low and slow. there are times when you need to prioritize healing the tank: when the tank is super low, when they have walked past a shield that is too dangerous for your other support to walk past quickly, etc. mercy cannot sustain a tank long term, and every second you try is a second you are not meaningfully contributing, and thats ult charge you are stealing from your other support who, without exception, has a more impactful ult. 3. understand what an impactful valkyrie looks like. yours arent. 4. stop beaming your other support so much unless they actually need healing or they are the situationally appropriate damage boost target. i was shocked by how often i saw you damage boosting LW in the first round. 5. if your other support has chosen a healing-heavy support (Bap, Kiriko, Ana, etc), start every single fight with your dps. never ever ever default to playing with your tank. that is not your primary job. your primary job is lowering your dps' time to kill and helping them maintain and exploit advantageous off angles. this actually doesn't change in comps when mercy is run with a support like zen. you still prioritize dps; you just swap to healing the tank sooner frankly, you should be embarrassed by this game. you are not masters or top 500 material, especially not on mercy. you made so many of the mistakes i used to make in *gold* (refusing to support your dps, caring too much about what your tank is up to, going for stupid glock plays in a small room against a junkrat, etc). you failed to demonstrate understanding of some of the most basic aspects of playing mercy. it's genuinely shocking to me that you think you played well this game when your movement is the best part of your gameplay and that's plat at best. your beam management, beam target priority, and valk usage were gold at best. is this harsh? no! you blamed your dps and said you played well in THIS GAME. youre in MASTERS. you should know better, and if you don't, i have some questions about how you got past plat in the first place.

@@axelt6312 listen I know Mercy/LW isn't the most ideal comp in the world but as a mercy player in diamond I do really enjoy it because then I SUPER don't have to worry about the tank 99% of the time (unless the tank insists on taking maximum damage, we've all had those tanks and we've all been those tanks lol). I can just vibe and see the mercy icon as an assist on almost every elim and y'know what life is tough, the world is in a rough spot, I'll take my dopamine hits where I can get them 😂

I thought this game was pretty good, but looking back it wasn’t my best, but definitely not terrible like everyone is saying in the comments lol. This was my first time submitting for Emonggs channel and I never suspected I’d be on it. Most of games go way better than this one, I also didn’t even think to mention my damage boost stats, like it never crossed my mind and idk why because I legit play Mercy all the time. And a lot of people are commenting on my movement but I’m on console with my sens as high up as it can go, there’s only so much I can do on my PS4 controller (a broken one at that). And yeah I guess I was blinded this game by my tanks HP getting pretty low frequently that I forgot about my Pharah player. Things happen, but she did do decently after we were able to get more flow into this game. I appreciate the feedback! People are being so rude lol.

I remember playing a match as Mercy where I switched back and forth between damage boosting my Hanzo and Cassidy for about a minute straight and neither one hit a single shot the entire time. I was like "Wtf do I do with this blue beam, then?" I think that was the same match where my Winston was constantly diving the enemy backline, 200% aggro at all times. I used Valkyrie to try to keep him alive while he was jumping around in the enemy team with his ult and he still stayed there until he died, after which he complained that no one was helping him. My teammates started telling him he was delusional and he goes "I'M delusional? What about our Lucio that has 1 kill? You think HE'S doing well?" I was the Lucio. I had switched about 20 seconds before that, and I'm pretty sure he didn't even know I was Mercy the rest of the time. And somehow that was a gold game and not bronze...

Since mercy's main job is to dmg boost, here are some tips to up dmg boost time: 1. Make right click your default. Then switch to healing when they need healing. Then back to dmg boost as soon as they dont need to be healed. Your go-to mode should be dmg boost always. 2. Know that teammates dont need to be full health at all times. Always dmg boost if you can afford to do so, even with your target not at full health. Knowing when you can afford this comes with practice. It's very often though! 3. As emongg said, the tank isnt your job as mercy. Only heal them when your other support cant/their heals arent enough/the tank is critical/you need the ult charge to get ult

That’s my biggest struggle, I prioritize keeping my team alive instead of giving more damage and it bites me a lot. And then if I’m paired with a second healer they never heal and I usually carry the slack. I think switching the buttons is a really good idea though and I’ll try it today 😭✨

I have most of my hours on support as Mercy but since OW2, Ana has been my favoured choice…and nothing frustrates me more when Mercy is pocketing the tank, ignoring the dps and saying ‘Ana you need to heal more’. When I play mercy, I’ll only put heal on the tank if they’re about 60%. And once they get to 80%, I trust my other support - not just because dmg boost is so much more beneficial to a fight but also so my other support can get their ult. Most support ults are way better and impactful than a mercy valk ._.

Yes in the middle of a fight it’s chaos but mercy player should have been ready to support Pharah there. Maybe the Pharah would still have died but a boosted Pharah ult would have had a lot more value.

I think this person would benefit greatly from two things. 1) playing tank to better understand how to play their life and help others do the same. 2) internalizing the saying “the only hp that matters is the last one”. As long as you’re above 1 hp, you’re able to fight or escape. Damage boosting a soldier who’s half is way better than healing them to full, especially when you’re this high in the ranks

I've been playing Mercy for a long time, I have a lot of love for the character. She's an enabler and if you're not enabling your dps to do better then there's not a lot of point in playing Mercy. Sometimes you're gonna get dps that can't do anything and aren't worth enabling and in that case I'd say swap it up to someone who can heal them and help in the dmg category. Don't let the dmg go to your head and forget to heal. I understand not wanting to swap because I'm also a Mercy main but sometimes it's just necessary. I'm not gonna lie, the movement is there but I don't see the game sense. There were multiple ults that could've been boosted and so many better positions they could've been in. I'm also not saying don't heal the tank, but at the end of the day she's not a main healer, she's an enabler.

@@xxMollyxx as another mercy main, I just want to share my mercy hot take: I think the importance of Mercy's movement is greatly overrated. don't get me wrong, it's important, it's our primary means of self defense and a great asset and just plain fun, too. but it feels like so many Mercy players spend so much time in mercy parkour but fail to actually learn how to play her. my toxic trait is watching replays of my games where there's an enemy mercy and watching from their pov - typically to make snide comments to myself to make myself feel better, LISTEN I know I'm petty lol - and even in diamond and plat lobbies, there are some people who have a great handle on the movement but absolutely no clue about beam management, beam target priority, etc., AKA no clue how to actually get significant value from the hero. movement is great but it's a tool to help us do our jobs, it doesn't actually contribute much on its own. basically, I just wish more people would spend time on beam management. you can absolutely carry fights just by knowing when you absolutely need to heal and who you absolutely must heal first and knowing when healing is not the highest value contribution you can be making

I think most mercy’s struggle with dmg boosting. They forget that it’s a way to get your dps’s ults faster, not just them having extra dmg. It’s better to prioritize the dps that has the least amount of ult charge if you’re lost.

What I do regarding the dmg boost is, if the other support is next to me and can see the dps I'm pocketing, I'll probably stick to the dmg boost even if they hp fall to something around 75%¨, as the other support can heal it and my dmg boost is more useful than my healing

My friend and I did close to 11k dps as healers he was ilari and I was the shield healer. Our dps and tank were just feeding the enemy team or afk. We played on the map that looks like Diagon Alley and we pushed them back on the final choke point. We were so fucking hype. That game alone taught me very well how to position as that healer and he learned how to play Ilari better as well. I love playing healer now more just from that experience. Play aggressive support.

As a Mercy main…I see myself failing if I have to healbot. That means I’m not prioritising who I should be. Now sure there are games I win by pocketing the tank and just keeping them up, but that’s more when everyone on the opposite team keeps falling over to them specifically. I try to keep my stats for dmg boosting at least at 50%. Otherwise in wasting a genuine part of my skill set. Also the amount of times I’ve been called useless on venture because of stats. What they don’t see is me separating, staggering and just generally being a pest for the other team. I may only have 2,000 dmg by the end of round one but we won because I was like a fly around the tank, drawing their attention while the dps and supports rushed while out of time and fell over. My elims or damage isn’t high as such…not compared to the other dps, but I’m doing a very important job: creating tunnel vision and splitting the team. That’s not quantifiable like damage is.

Regarding perceived value on ball; I think they can add a short (~2s) Wallhack on the enemies that gets hit by the piledriver. The information about disruption in the enemy backline could make it easier to sync up with the ball.

As a supp player who has been t500 on console heres some advice to you: First, you should absolutely not be having your beam basically perma locked on your tank, not only this but no blue beam in sight. Mercy's value comes from playing with dps, using blue beam to help them pop off. In no world should you be pocketing your tank here in t500, you should know better. With 8 years of mercy you should know better. You're beam prioritization needs alot of work, why beam your support who is safe when you could be beaming a dps? your positioning and ult usage was.... not good, Those valks were downright awful im sorry, as a t500 player you should know what a meaningful and good valk would look like, those arnt it. You should know better than to glock down a junk in an enclosed room. Ontop of this, the only time glock should be out if theres low hp targets your dps just cant get to. Alot of other commenters think you might have been duo'd with the tank, if you two were duo'd heres some word of advice: If you are not going to play mercy the way she gets value IE: blue beaming dps, then please play somebody else with your duo, if you are going to default to tank pocketing play a support who gets value doing so, IE, ana/kiri are great picks, good utility nd damage. Play anybody else when you're duo'd up with a tank player. All in all, if you have 8 years of mercy under your belt, this was not the game to say "you played well" because you very much did not.

I have to be honest, as a Mercy main I do, in fact, healbot in QP. Not all the time, of course, but if I’m with a Zen/Lucio/Moira or with players who lose a LOT of health A lot of players in QP are in it for fun and practice, so 23K is really nothing. I’ve had matches where I 1v1 the enemy with punches (had a match w a Lucio where we just went at it with just punches the WHOLE match, like he would ignore everyone else too haha). That said, in comp, it’s a whole different story. Having 23K is a sign you are not boosting enough, which is the primary reason for Mercy to pocket someone. If you have that much healing, it’s a sign something is wrong. Especially if you are out of metal ranks and are Top 500.

It was pissing to watch ngl, as myself a Mercy player I never heal a tank till they have full armor or maybe around 40/50% HP, depends of course on how much dmg they take etc. But I have the same rule on dps, I heal them only around 60/70%, often not even healing characters which have self heal (Soldier). It all depends on the situation, but I see their need to heal everyone to full before searching for somebody to pocket. They often even tap heal everyone to check if they are full healed which on Mercy is a super waste of time, since her healing is often low and without ult she can heal only a single target. I feel like in total they wasted like a minute or so of "heal tapping" when they could have dmg boosted.

As an avid Mercy fan, she isn't good in every situation. I'm not a good player, but i tend to try to balance my dmg boost with my healing. If the Pharah keeps dying...fly with them and dmg boost them. They die less and get more kills. If Mercy isn't working, swap. Dmg boost and rez are good utility, but if the team isn't getting value from it you need to swap to a different hero that matches the team. As for the Wrecking Ball convo, it feels the same way playing tracer/sombra. If they are doing their job as flankers/distractions they might not secure the kill BUT if a support is dueling them then thats one less person healing the enemy team.

A lot of good players when they get cocky put themselves in bad positions. Relying on support to much or blaming tank or dps entire team etc.. Also failing to recognize after or during game. I watched this happen two days ago on Kraandop stream before he pulled him self together for some great wins.

I’m so confused why he said switching to lifeweaver was a questionable choice?? Listen. If the tank is crashing out and you’ve done adequate damage switching to LW is one of the best things to do. Gets people to stay on point as you can life grip them on point or on your alt. And get them out of situations where Zaria is alting, McCree is hindering or Junk trapped you ect. I personally will run a mix of Moira, Lucio, & LW, unfortunately I can’t seem to get out of gold though bc playing without a full 5 stack is just getting sold repeatedly, & honestly you can’t heal $tup!d. Everytime I queue anything I regret it bc they’re always lacking in every other department I’m not in. I stay top of leaderboard (unless I run damage using anyone but echo) but unfortunately you need smart teammates to do anything sensible in comp. 😅

I swear OW players have a hard on for "it's support, not healer." But the game literally doesn't have support heroes that aren't just a healer who does dps. The closest thing to that would be Mei. WoW, on the other hand, has a genuine support class that whilst capable of some healing is primarily focused on providing a miriad of powerful buffs and utility. It's the augmentation evoker.

As a Mercy Main (since the game came out with a 2 yr break) Pharah is prob the best DPS to pocket..... and Im currently Stuck in Silver (used to be High Plat low Diamond). I try not to pocket Tank, and tend to stick with the back line DPS, now dont get me wrong Ill heal Tank if then need it and I can get to them w/o getting caught, if the other support is well not healing. But other than that I try to stay on DPS while power boosting.
