I used to fly down akina in gt86, and was getting some good time for an 86 standard, i think there is a misconception about the whole "slow car faster than fast car in corners", even in Initial D, you didn't see stock 86 competing with a Diablo or Murcielago, it competed with max 400hp cars and even then AE86 had pretty healthy 240HP by that time. When it had stock 4AGE Takumi would and did loose with that black EVO. I think comparing 600+HP car with a semi automatic box to a barely 200hp manual 86 is like comparing nokia 3310 to newest greatest smartphone.
@TWLSpark Жыл бұрын
I mean, to be completely fair, it was made clear in Initial D that the 86 was indeed weak on straights, even when running down the mountains, and only really had overtaking opportunities at curves rather than straights. The only thing running down gave it was momentum to gain some extra speed in the straights, but honestly the real reason it only ran going down was really because it struggled going at high speeds going up. If this is about MF Ghost, though... Well, that one is honestly a mess.

On twisty roads like those near hakone the rules are passable
@zx921 Жыл бұрын
@@nade5557 Yeah but there are a lot of plot holes and stuff that the rules don't compensate for. For example, what's stopping the contestants from weight reduction, giving their cars a ton of hp or ,as you mentioned, aero upgrades? Also "grip to weight" doesn't make sense. Tyres are only a part of the equation when it comes to handling. Suspension, differentials and electronic assists would put supercars on domination level. MF ghost has potential but the author doesn't know a thing about motorsport...
@GaranNoDou298 Жыл бұрын
As far as MF Ghost goes, it seems that it's more-so a driver issue. The majority of the pilots are braking quite hard in corners, while Kanata is stated to pretty much throw himself into a corner at almost full speed, similar to what Takumi did. So I can fathom him getting ahead, especially after adding a turbo to his car. But I'm failing to understand how he manages to catch up to Michael, since he's in a better car + on par with Kanata in technique. As far as the lower ranks go, it makes...some sense. But with the top 3 drivers who all boast superior cars, it's really confusing.

Mountain roads are not the Great Equalizer of cars, but of drivers. The narrow streets and twisty corners means you cant simply rely on the setup of your car, whether for power or handling. You have to be skilled enough to navigate the route, while remembering any imperfections or weird mountain road things like single lane bridges. All the while fighting the pressure of beating the other car, and trying not to focus on the fact that (realistically) one mistake could send you flying off into the trees for your trip down the river Styx.

I think the reason why lambo was left because of the wheel base. Short wheelbase can turn/manuver easier. For example a car like honda beat can be parked or can do U turn faster/easier than a gtr same principle can be applied here when doing hairpins in irohazaha. 2nd factor is in low speeds Aero/downforce doesn't really matter and huracan was definitely built to turn using its aero/downforce advantage. So in this case i think you should redo this with a different car. How about a lotus exige vs a gt86. I think the exige is the superior supercar in twisty turns.

I can confidently say that the gt86 looked more like it was cruising rather than actually going for a race. I can confirm though, that corners make a big difference, for example on a corner I was up the bumper of a new 150k $ M3 competition the g80 with my 110 horsepower 1.5 liter NA subaru impreza hatchback with awd from 2009. The bimmer struggled to put the power down and I was at its bumper like glue for 3/4 of the corner the rear was trying to slide out while I was gaining on the bimmer even more at 120. but as soon as that corner straightened out even at the slightest bit the bimmer was just gone, thats 510 horsepower for you. I must say this, but had he floored it from before the corner would not have brought me much of an edge due to the car being too powerful. In other words, this video is telling the harsh thruth. In some corners you can gain ground, but if the car is a dedicated sports car it can actually do some damage (as in leaving you choking its dust)

It is interesting reading the comments I myself am an 86 lover at heart but being able to beat a lambo is just impossible for the little GT86 (Shocker, I know) Even in this video the only reason it won was kind of just because it could block on the narrow road Not really because it was faster Don't get me wrong not giving your opponent a chance to overtake also takes skill and is an important part of racing, but that is not the idea here Takumi also didn't block the road on straights I would still choose to drive an 86 over a lambo though 1.The lambo is THICC at least compared to the 86 so the road seems thin and just difficult 2.It's power is kind of it's downfall You could never truly open up the throttle on the Touge Obviously throttle control is also an important skill, but I am talking about pure fun and fooling around 3.While possible it is risky and difficult to drift a lamborghini while an 86 is probably the easiest choice These do not apply to games but still might as well point them out 4.The Lambo's probably got a V12 (Not a lamborghini expert) while the 86 has a Boxer 4 While Subaru isn't exactly known for fuel economy the 8 more cylinders are gonna be very hungry Something to consider with today's petrol prices 5.Reliability and cost Lamorghini: an Italian supercar Toyota: a Toyota While Boxer engines add to maintanence costs it's still gonna be less than a lamborghini And being Japanese after a while of constant use it is still gonna work Also you won't have to worry about scratching it up as much Those are the reasons why I like the 86 more I'm sure the Lamborghini has it's upsides For example Girls wil instantly hop into a lamborghini, not the case with a Toyota Also just pure performance I just preffer the 86 because in my opinion on the twisty mountain or country roads it can provide just as much fun and excitement (Please excuse any spelling mistakes made in this comment as English is not my First language) God I have basiclly written up an essay here I just love talking about and comparing cars Anyways nice video Also thanks for stopping with the weird looking cars movie inspired thumbnails Maybe someone liked it I didn't

SRB is put simply an Amateur, he really can't get the best of the Lamborghini because... he really needs to understand Midships don't behave like 4WDs with front engines. In the first corner of Akina you entered too narrow, apexed too early and panic braked causing understeer, which only increased the gap for the 86. In the end it was the horsepower that saved the day as soon you got into the longest straight (I'm sure that without any mistakes you would've been able to overtake around the skate park straight) You need some more practice on Akina to be honest... trailing sessions can do wonders to learn tracks and do wonders to improve someone's understanding of the track. Irohazaka however... I can forgive that one, specially when the Lamborghini's 600hp really aren't useful there, the 86 pretty much was leading all the time and could effectively close the door whenever it wanted. So the most fair race would be cat and mouse style, specially considering the Lamborghini was way too big for the track compared to the 86. If you want a more fair comparison use the Tsukuba fruits line (last initial d stage) it has a good mixture of straights, turns and is balanced for both vehicles. As a matter of fact... I've been able to ride the ass of a F430 in a 2007 STI, no sweat.

Probably hard to make a conclusion but not sure if this would be a valid real world reference but the civic type r (300hp) destroys some super cars with 500hp or more at the Nur in terms of lap times. So I guess superb handling and a good power to weight ratio can pull it off.
@LightGesture Жыл бұрын
Center of gravity. A stock rx8 will run the same lap times as an ls swap on a track. Lower center of gravity, less weight, less body movement = consecutive speeds through out
@Aspen-nf3td Жыл бұрын
The short answer is: no, the civic doesn't destroy 500hp supercars on the Nurburging. Long answer: The supercar laps were done with older and slower tyres. There is also a possibility that many of those laps weren't done officially with professional drivers and with intent to push the cars to their full potential. So with these factors considered, it's no wonder the civic (and other modern laps of 300hp cars) can do "faster" times.
@jannzerochannel Жыл бұрын
@@Aspen-nf3td short reply : could be true but the posts were marketed as versus official lap times. Long reply : Meaning there is also a high posibility that these 500hp supercars were driven by professional test drivers that to a significant extent capable of pushing these cars to the limit. Plus we are not talking about a faked top speed run thru gps or other means, I am pretty sure there are less facets to fake performance especially when we speak about lap times in the nur. Plus even for someone like me who has never raced in the nur, it is highly plausible for a more better handling 300hp car to outpace a 500hp supercar with less handling conaidering that mathematically speaking, if the type r can be faster by even just .5 seconds in every corner in the nur then by the time you reach the final straight, the time difference could be enough to compensate for top speed. And as commented by light gesture, the science of center of gravity on a track that is predominantly technical does make a difference.
@Aspen-nf3td Жыл бұрын
@@jannzerochannel I'm not sure about all the times, but a Gallardo one for example is not official, because it was done by a motorsport magazine. You can check that. In-fact a lot of the lap times you see were done by magazines, not officially by manafacturers. A good example of such lap is the (in)famous R34 GT-R lap that you may be aware of. It's 100% possible for a 300hp to out-pace a 500hp car on Nurburging, however it's not certain if the Civic has a lower center of gravity than a Gallardo and even if it had, that wouldn't be the only important factor. What we are certain of is that it's not incredibly light, it is FF and it probably doesn't pull off terribly high amouth of downforce. Even if it was faster through corners than a Gallardo given that both cars would be using same tyres, it still wouldn't be a big enough difference due to not having the meanings to make a big enough difference.

@@bolson42 Gotta disagree with 'not meant for racing' when they remained a competitive race car well into the 90s despite ending production in the mid-80s. Compared to cars like the Golf Mk.2, Civic AT/EF/EG, Corolla AE82/92 and similar they always competitive; But that's the thing, 1600cc race cars don't beat Sierras, Skylines or Supras unless the points system awards points by class like BTCC did, which allowed Corollas to be outright winners in the championship despite being a lot slower than M3s or Sierras. And no, I'm not considering the BP Trueno from JGTC to be an AE86, although it might be the last example of that silhouette in top-tier racing.

@@skaldlouiscyphre2453 Ok, sorry i didn’t really mean it that way. I meant it wasn’t meant for high performance racing, not racing in general. Obviously it was a sporty racing trim, and was used in a lot of rally or circuit races in japan at the time. But it just doesn’t compare to the higher performance cars around the same era. What made it so great was it’s affordability, weight balance, and just being a really fun car at the time

As an Initial D fan, I knew this would only end one way. You would have to be an even SLIGHTLY worse driver than the GT86er to lose. Many times, initial D showed that takumi outclassed the drivers in terms of sheer driving skill, and that the gap between drivers was bigger (or narrower for more similar cars, but more skilled drivers.) Takumi had high high skill, but a weak car. Some people had GREAT cars, but lower skill. Some people had similar skill and better cars, some had better and similar cars etc. Fact is, once someone whith at least COMPARABLE skill cane up against Takumi, it was always some BS as to why he won. Then, you have characters like God Hand, who in my head canon beat takumi anyway. The race against Bunta was the best showcase for more power and better skill left takumi dumped, even on windy roads. Evo gang showed the first level of realism where, once it was an absolute straight away issue, no way Takumi's car was gonna overtake / keep up. Initial D seems rooted pretty well in reality, and constantly showcased / said the eight six was a fine car, but a super car it was not, nor would it have won every single (officcial) race without magic plot armor. Before bunta wiped the floor with Takumi, he was even like "Man, if it werent for those leaves, I'd have been toast!"

I mean this was kinda proved wrong Irl with a 200 HP MR2 and a 170 HP AE86 having faster times than 500+ HP R35s on a stint of Gunsai with many corners. Granted they were both beat by 2 highly tuned ultra light 700 HP cars on race tyres but only by a few 10ths of a second.
