Using flashlights in the forest at nights means you are seen first. It's best to allow your eyes to adjust and use your ears or use night vision.

And that is not just because there are less humans to cause trouble but because the humans out there are much less likely to be the kind of person to cause trouble. The kind of people who attack random people are disturbed individuals who would not have the resources and intellect to be able to survive in those remote areas.
