Hi Angie, I'm shaking my head watching your reveal. I've been on this planet over 65 years now, most spent creating in multiple mediums, and you always surprise me. I know it's not just skill, there is a lot of love that I'm looking at here. You are some kind of special young lady!!! This might be my fave to date. Whenever I create something, I always take a few moments to state my intentions for the new owner. Your intentions are crystal clear at first glance! Well done...🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷

As a auto body repair guy, I would recommend trying something called a finishing glaze to do large areas like that. There are several ones, metal glaze and blaze glaze are my favorite. They go on super smooth as they are very thin compared to filler and the sand ability is much better. Spreads much smoother as well.

@@Tmlatyoutube it would. It will go on silky smooth. It is a little more costly than just body filler, but for large areas that don't have to be super thick it would be hard to beat.

Before the putty: 50 years ago we would first apply a very very thin seal coat of varnish to seal the wood project this would bring out the true color of the wood. then the wood filler wood be applied to match the true color of the grain of the wood; after that we would add additional seal coats of varnish to finish the project.

Looks wonderful! Just a suggestion: attach 4 chair mounting brackets to the top of a rectangular scrap board. Then you can screw the legs on so they are easy to paint or stain and you won’t need to handle them much and they can stick up in the air to dry. So helpful.

"swan is a stretch"-made me laugh. This was quite the challenge. My grandfather made my sister and me desks kind of like this, but instead of drawers, there was a two-tiered cabinet with a door. Without a doubt, so far this has been one of the biggest challenges I've seen yet. Not only was it ugly, but it was obviously made of cheap material. I did not think you were going to be able to salvage the top. Kudos on an excellent job doing just that and it turned out beautifully. Also you kept the design simple, and since the lines were plain also, your choice worked out very well as a finished look. Now all you need is a cute "matching" chair to go with it.

The shade of green on that old drawer and the dovetail work makes me think it's from the 40's maybe. I think the desk was built around the drawers taken from an old vanity or dresser, hence, the cobbled -together look of it. I'm amazed at how the top turned out! This is so refreshing to find a younger person who tries to save the quality wood finishes, instead of buying a decent piece of furniture and destroying it with a shabby chic paint treatement product that requires no skill. You have SKILLS, and I applaud your efforts. I presume that folks in Nova Scotia are similar to those in my part of Texas, when assessing this piece of furniture. My grandfather was retired house builder, and he built furniture for his grand children, so no fancy finishes, or veneers; no high dollar hardwood. Your piece looks very similar to what my grandfather did for his grand children.... with the exception of repurposing that piece of plywood with the lead paint. That was from something else, but they needed the wood to finish the desk. The 'pretty' desk top, might have been repurposed from another piece of furniture. I think this was meant to be a utilitarian piece of furniture that 'company' or visitors would never see... like a basement or a child's room. This was done by a treasured family member, but it was not their best work, which is why they chose to give the piece away, instead of burning it in the winter stove. Thank you, for making so much out of this little piece.

I love this video. Raising 7 kids + my 2 nieces on a limited income, we often had furniture as sad as this desk. Most of what we owned at one time was made over n some way. The vision & education u provide n this particular video proves w/a bit of elbow grease, imagination, fairly attainable products & seeking knowledge = an affordable piece of furniture to be proud of. U inspire people of restricted income that they can redo & own pieces to be proud of. Thank you for inspiring everyone - truly all/everyone at most every income level. Bravo!! Great job!
