Branson beans are my choice, rather than Heinz beans. If you do try ‘Beans on Toast’ - which the U.K. consider to be a quick snack meal. Don’t forget to butter the toast slices, add some salt and pepper and eat off a plate using a knife and fork. It’s potentially too messy to hold it in the hand, consuming it like an open sandwich, it’s not meant to be ate that way!
@wenglishsal7 ай бұрын
YEP and Cross & Blackwell too, gone off Heinz they are too sweet for me.. Hot Buttered Toast, Beans, a splodge of brown sauce, Cheese and maybe a Fried Egg on the top, if there's enough room.... YUMMY.. :D

Also do not waste any time between the toast being done and buttered, and pouring on the heated (not cooked - they are already cooked) beans, and eating while the toast is still crispy and warm. Don’t prepare the toast then the bean, and don’t do the beans then do the toast - they both need doing at the same time and timed so both are ready at the same time, and don’t waste any time looking at it on the plate and talking about it - just toast out, butter on, beans poured on and eat - should be starting to eat within a minute at most of the toast being browned. If you start by warming the beans in a saucepan, on a medium to low heat, then you need to start the toast (in a toaster at least) around the time the beans start to simmer. Don’t over cook the beans - they shouldn’t get to a boil otherwise the beans will start to turn to complete mush and the flavour changes. My pref is to do the toast under a grill - which isn’t what Americans call a grill - it’s the thing that heats from the top on one side only - so the bread gets toasted on one side only. But there are people who prefer toast done both sides. The butter should be relatively thick spread and salted butter ideally. If you get the timing right, the butter won’t have fully melted on the toast before you pour on the beans and start eating :) It’s a quick meal, but it relies on being eaten quick before the beans cool, the toast goes soggy etc to “work”.

Hi Anna and JT, seeing how addictive you find the Highland cattle, I thought that you might be interested in watching a Scottish KZbin channel that covers the daily activities of a Scottish hoof trimmer who sometimes treats the hooves of all kinds of cattle including Highland cattle. The channel is called The Hoof GP,and basically he travels around his home area in Scotland treating the hooves of cattle that have become lame, either by walking onto something like a large stone or a piece of wire that has become stuck in their hooves or for some reason the cattle aren’t wearing down the hard part of the hooves. Basically he’s a cow podiatrist who has the equipment to help lift a cow off it’s feet to cut its toe nails or he can stick a block on to the foot to keep an ulcerated foot from getting mud and stones and everything else that they stand in, stuck in their feet.

The woman’s institute was made up of wives and mothers during the World Wars. Its reason for being was to help all the women in the villages and towns around the UK while the men were away playing war. They would get together in the village hall and pass around information and help with household tips and tricks as well as recipes to use the coupon based rationing of food to better use what you have got. The government helped by making a special office in the government, this is where the Carrot Cake came from, a lady from that office apparently made the recipe up to use what food you had. Since people in the Uk were obliged to dig up their flower gardens to grow vegetables instead, by law! The woman’s institute became so popular that it lasted well past the end of the war a rationing.

top tip: when making scones keep them closer together on baking tray, this will help them rise and make them tall. Also, in UK mostly people pronounce 'scone' as 's-gone'. As in the joke. what's the fastest cake in the world? Your pronunciation is what posh people would use. This pronunciation is also reserved for the 'Stone of Scone' which is essentially a rock which is used for the coronation of British monarchs.
