This lightweight scuba diving system lets you dive without the use of heavy tanks. The Nomad, which is developed by blU3, lets you explore shallow waters without the need to keep rising for air.
The device works by floating on the surface of the water. A compressor takes fresh air and delivers it to the diver, who is attached to a 40ft air hose. Nomad allows users to dive up to 35ft and charges via USB, providing over 60 minutes of usage from a single charge.
Experienced and novice divers can use the system, but it is advised to receive proper training before taking part in any diving activities. Nomad is crowdfunding on Kickstarter and will cost around £719 with a ship date set for December 2018.

i do compressor diving almost everyday for a liiving. over 6 months we have done over about 730 hours (3-5 hours a day). to have an electrical compressor handle 2 people for 4-5 hours you need 100ah 24v (if you use inverter) / 200ah 12v (for 12v compressor) the weight of those batteries alone makes you unable to glide around on a skateboard (LIFEpo4). a compressor that can handle 2 people down to 15m demand around 650w (1 person to about 40m) this is due to lack of CFM and the weight is easily over 10kg with a small airtank. to be able to run a compressor system that can handle the CFM of 2 people for any period of time will never be able to be charged by usb within reasonable amount of time and you will not be able to glide around on a skateboard. with that said its not impossible to make a device as shown that can run for 30-60min down to 5m (lightweight small compressor) and it could be charged by usb it will just take forever

I've been using a similar system for a couple of years. In fact I am the process of upgrading to an 80 cfm system (awaiting delivery). I would not go back to bottles for my type of diving, although I do Always dive with a small emergency backup pony bottle. However, I have been a professional (commercial) diver for over 30 years. I certainly would not recommend these systems for an untrained or novice diver.

Of course the compressor on the surface floats. I am asking how the diver controls his own buoyancy. With conventional diving equipment you pump air into your jacket or let it out. But the divers in the video don't seem to have that. You either drop like a rock or float like styrofoam if you can't adjust your buoyancy.

@@32SanX Hi 32SanX, you can control buoyancy with your lung. I learned scuba 30 years ago, we did not have an inflator jacket, just a plastic backpack thingy to strap the tank to your back. You take much less lead than with a inflator jacket (BCD). When breathing normally, you use approx 20% of your lung capacity. You can either fully breathe in and then do your normal breathing, and will have lots of buoyancy (lung 80-100% full) or fully breathe out and then breathe normally (lung 25 to 45 percent full = low buoyancy). There is always 25 remaining in your lung. Don't quote me on percentages, but you get the idea. Try it at a pool, you'll see it works: breathe fully out and you will sink. Then inhale as deeply as you can and you will float. Same idea.

@matscalia

Ilsunny Lo when you dive you can't use oxygen tanks. You would go high as after smoking a chunk and then die via hyperoxia. Tanks are loaded with natural air.
@seikibrian8641
@seikibrian8641 6 жыл бұрын
"you dont need to waste money on oxygen tanks" * AIR tanks, not oxygen tanks. Pure oxygen is toxic under pressure. Most divers use plain old compressed air, although some use special mixtures for special purposes; for example Nitrox, Heliox, tri-mix, etc. (Pure oxygen is sometimes used by tech divers during decompression stops, but only at shallow depths.)
@seikibrian8641
@seikibrian8641 6 жыл бұрын
"You would go high as after smoking a chunk" That's more like nitrogen narcosis. Oxygen toxicity often has no symptoms, and then you suddenly go into convulsions and drown.

SeikiBrian I didn't know that oxygen goes toxic under pressure. Thanks for the correction.
@seikibrian8641
@seikibrian8641 6 жыл бұрын
" I didn't know that oxygen goes toxic under pressure." Yes, and it's one of the things taught in scuba classes, especially in classes about mixed-gas diving. In addition to "no decompression limits," most dive computers also track "PO2," which is the partial pressure of oxygen, and they'll tell you to ascend if you're getting into dangerous territory with regard to O2 toxicity since it doesn't always give you a warning. Sometimes you'll get numbness or tingling in your hands, or muscle twitching, but often there's no warning and then bam! You start convulsing. This isn't meant to scare anyone off; scuba diving is lots of fun and most people can do it, but proper training is essential because some dangers aren't "common knowledge."

TY Z agreed. If hv done scuba diving. It's really scary if for any reason the air supply is cut while you're underwater. The system must have a way to avoid water into the system hose and a 10 minute safety should the air supply is suddenly cut from the surface. This could be by means of an emergency mini scuba bottle attached as part of the system. At 40 ft I guess is enough to get the diver surfaced (not consulting the diving rule book). Other then the above, it's cool piece of equipment.

It's called snuba. I would say it is more dangerous than scuba diving. What happens if you lose your regulator during a dive. You won't have regulator recovery skills taught to every novice diver. I've personally seen 1st scuba divers learn this skill and screw up, yet as dive professionals we are there to render aid. Overall i see this as a dumb idea. It restrictes depth of dives, allows a long hose (easily to be caught on anything), no back up octopus reg. I could go on with more, but this is just a company trying to make money of a damgerous product
