SMM2 expert here. What you’re asking for is **really** complicated but probably not impossible. The first problem is that it’s possible to walk backwards in 3DW simply by starting a spin jump and then moving while spinning instead of jumping. You can use doors to prevent the player from holding up, but those can only cover 8 blocks of ground at most. A propeller mask would also work by replacing the function of the shoulder buttons. The second and more pressing problem is that it’s really hard to make a walk-backwards-or-else detector in 3DW because boos are so hard to control and detect. Since you can’t stack them, they can’t be global, so a don’t-look-away detector is useless unless the level is very small or you make a new one every half-screen and disable each one until the player passes below it. The latter is possible, but hard to explain in a youtube comment. I can at least say it would be very expensive, requiring at least 4 or 5 entities per detector (1 boo with a key and a parachute, 1 koopa car to kill it if it moves, 1 spring to get the car moving, 1 twister to immobilize the boo, and optionally 1 mushroom platform to let the boo land ASAP after the twister is destroyed). The alternative is a don’t-look-at me detector at the end of the level, but without stacks or clown cars, you can’t immobilize a boo except by either disabling its ability to react to the player or, you know, looking at it. You would have to somehow kill the boo unless it *didn’t* stop moving for a period of time while also forcing the player to keep moving too so they can’t just stand still until the boo is safe (and you need an anti-spin-walk setup, of course). Here’s the thing: although it’s impossible to *make* a boo stack in 3DW, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to *have* one. You can make a stack in a 2D style and glitch it into a 3DW level, even the one you’ve already started, and the game will let you upload it. There are various methods for this, but I recommend using the co-op method (search “3D world SMM2 co-op import” on KZbin and you should find a video that shows the method by SilicatYT or Psycrow) as it lets you import your entire level at once from 3D to 2D and then back to 3D without needing any extra course elements. The extra parts thing is important because an imported stack is extremely fragile and will break if you edit **ANYTHING** after importing it. As for what to do with a stack, you could make a don’t-look-at-me detector behind the goal with a wall of stacked boos (2 should be enough) that can’t move, and then a third boo with a bill blaster stacked on it trying to fly through them. Looking at this contraption will make the boo with the launcher move further into the stack, carrying the bill blaster forward to push or crush something. A global don’t-look-away setup is also possible by stacking a Boom-Boom on a boo, but I wouldn’t recommend that because boos don’t start moving right away when you’re not looking at them so that could be cheesed by just taking lots of little steps with turn backs in-between.

@@alittar8062 you don’t get banned on first offense as far as I know, but the level could get taken down. Sorry, I forgot to mention this in the original post, but yes, using a glitch like that could get your level deleted. Keeping it offscreen would help a lot, but not necessarily guarantee safety. Frankly, the entire level is already based around a glitch (sliding around in permanent hammer recoil) so adding a little enemy stack somewhere probably won’t change whether the level gets reported and deleted.

I made that first level. I forgot how long it took me to clear it, but it was a WHILE. There's no secret cheat paths. But if you take that path up with the mushroom instead of just going right with the p-switch (which is the correct puzzle solution), there is a hidden key block you can use through a door up there. It just kills you though. Anyway yeah, don't worry, I had ot subject myself to everything you went through too.

For the issue at the beginning, boos are the only thing that track which way the character is facing, and since the glitch that gets used for the level is 3D World exclusive, you can’t stack enemies to make the boo activate a p-switch or on/off block. The only way I could see it working is if you had many boos on the left hand side that were only a block away from closing the path, and then an s-like structure to ensure that the player moves right while looking left, then takes the path that the boo has either closed or left open, then finish the level. This, of course, would need to either have a powerup check at the end of the level either from taking damage or using a clear condition, but I think that should work?

Just realized some new tech watching this video. Simp gets hit by a goomba facing away from him and then it turns towards him. This could be worked into a time based level that required the player to damage boost to get a goomba to walk in the correct direction without having to wait for it to hit a wall. I don't care if this never exists, cause it blew my mind that it could.

idea on how to fix the end of the walking backwards level: harness the evil energy that crashes your switch from Lyricastle's level. you can then channel said energy (which is evil) into the very end of the level, making those who dare to walk forward instantly crash their switch. pretty simple solution

I have a level that forces the player to face backwards the entire time, but ti is a fairly intricate set up that won't work in 3D world. It is a contraption that involves putting note blocks with munchers over conveyors and periodically placed P switches, and a clown car with a boo in it that activates a muncher if the Boo sees you with tracks to push the clown car across the level.

Maybe an idea for the backwards walk: Boos that are in very specific spot, so only permanently looking backwards keeps them from following you. That way they will be out of range and allow the required enemy with the key to spawn, die and give you the key.
