This Universal Base Is Perfect For Builds!

Since it leaves so much space around the pipe, you could easily use an Olympic weight plate if you need additional weight, just drop it right on top of the umbrella base, a 45 might be a little big but, a cast iron 25 would easily sit right on top of the umbrella base, and I suppose you could use more than one if you were trying to anchor something with a huge surface area against the wind.

This is AWESOME! I can't believe I didn't think of using umbrella bases for support bases for our balloon sculptures. It would be great if someone made those threaded inserts for 1/2" emt.

Ah I needed this for my standing speakers! I just used cinder blocks to weigh down an mdf square which I had the pipe screwed into with a flange

This is so awesome to do a temporary shade cloth over my pool in our hot Florida summer. But I have a question, I’ve been working on making a conduit trellis system for my garden that would double as a shade cloth cover, etc. I just found you guys, but so far I have 5 foot conduit just buried about 2.5 in the ground and another 5 foot piece attached. I attached a shade cloth but the problem I’m having is the poles are moving and leaning even with being buried that much. What do you all suggest to strengthen them in the ground? I don’t want to go with concrete because I want to be able to move them if needed. I live in a hurricane area and I also do get some heavy breezes in my area of Florida, so I want it to be secure, but also temporary. If you have links to other videos, that would be awesome, thanks!

Hi there, thanks for the question. I always recommend these rebar stakes from Lowes. They fit inside of 3/4" EMT conduit nicely and provide some rigidity in situations like yours. www.lowes.com/pd/Steel-Rebar-Pins-Common-0-75-in-x-18-in-Actual-0-75-in-x-18-in/4008133

@@MakerPipe ah I don't know why it was so hard to figure this out, but mic stand bases and mic holders are 5/8-27 so you just need a male to male adaptor for the 3/8-16 threaded insert.

I've had good success with just slipping them over but I imagine drilling a hole would increase the strength even more if you find it necessary. I haven't really thought of that to be honest. Good idea!
