Funnily enough, the Landcruiser Colorado was the only car i have ever driven that went into limp mode! It was my mates but we were driving down through France to go skiing. He ended up spending 400 euros to get it fixed for the return trip. This was many years ago when it would have only been 10/11 years old with about 100k on the clock.

Thank you for your shout out for foster carers. Having worked in the past with them for several years I have immense respect for them. Emergency foster carers are amazing and have their worlds turned upside down every time they get the call , dropping everything to meet the needs of what are often very distressed children. Landcruisers are like all big 4x4's ruinesly expensive for a poor old pensioner like me 🙂.

That's a Land Cruiser Prado (in Australia). Very popular here and an excellent vehicle. I however, own the real deal 2006 Land Cruiser, 4.2 ltr normally aspirated, six cylinder diesel. I have owned many cars, most of them from new but this 17 yo vehicle is better than any of them by a long shot and not a pollution control device to be seen. Just saying.

From memory when I worked in Dubai in the mid 2000s, the more popular/upmarket version of the Landcruiser was a different body shape (horizontal grill and cleaner lines imho) and came with a 4.6L petrol engine. The body shape you see in the video was badged as the Landcruiser Prado (2.5-4L) in the Middle East, essentially a cheaper cousin of the OG.

I would take that Land Cruiser off you in a heartbeat. Easily get 150k out of it. Solid truck and for some of us, very easy to go through the engine, replace all the valves, gaskets, exhaust and sort the interior with some gum, a toothbrush and baby wipe. No bother. Great suv. Sorry to hear you drive a Range Rover, that is def status and brand over well thought out, utility and reliability.. 🤣🤣

What a fantastic land cruiser for the milage and age. Suppose most 18 year old cars may seem a tad dated. I'm of an age that I remember the awful car's of the 70s. I was looking for my 1st car in the late seventies so you talking about mk 3 cortina/escorts etc. 6 year old cars were at the end of their life very hard to find one that wasn't a rust bucket or needed a new engine you youngsters don't know how lucky you are. 10 15 20 year old cars are still going strong
@chrishart85486 ай бұрын
You have to remember even if a car looks good on a 04 plate its still 20 years old. And a £1300 repair is usually just round the corner. A lot of people just reset engine codes and sell a car on.

Having known people who do fostering or who have adopted the most troubled of children - the level of trauma some children will have experienced early in life is for most of us unimaginable. The incredible dedication of very wonderful people humbled me. It’s so very tough, yet they do it and work so hard to bring young lives back to a better place.
@lewlewis65116 ай бұрын
The secret with Landcruisers is to keep the undersides washed down keeping the salt at bay and to apply some decent protection to the chassis, rear live axle and exposed sections of inner sills. They don't take kindly to neglect (unlike what too many owners think) but are easy to service and maintain. Its not a Range Rover, if you want the Toyota equivalent of one you need the 100 series full size Amazon at 3 x the cost for the same year as a L422, both engines used in the 100 series bomb proof as is the whole of the transmission.
@thomasfrancis57476 ай бұрын
I think you did the right thing trading the Land Cruiser on since your mate knows what to fix to avoid subsequent customer hassle/warranty claims. Reminds me of an Isuzu Trooper a supplier once let us loose on an offroad course - compared to a Disco there were absolutely no creaks or rattles. Always worth getting someone to clean trade stock before trying to sell it - mucky car can suggest lack of previous owner care?

I now smile when I see the words "bomb proof" and "Landcruiser" in the same sentence. Rose tinted glasses comes to mind! They are grossly overpriced for what they are though. Worryingly, after 20 years, Toyota no longer produces spare parts for them, so once they're gone, they're gone. Not so useful if you're intending to keep one for a long time. They're all wallowy and handle badly. Yours was no exception. Also, as with yours, they are definite rotboxes, especially at the back end. Maybe not as bad a weld fest as a Land Rover, but still bad even so. Engines and transmissions are okay, but again not as reliable as people think. I've had two, covering over 60K miles in them. Would I buy another? No. £5995?! Oh deary me....
