That's a bit redundant. In order for that information to be useful, it would need to be updated at a faster rate than the "parent" information. Besides, wouldn't you just update the view count instead of updating the time since the view count was last updated?

Hi Steve, small correction (I think): From what I know, AWS doesn’t make up more than half of Amazon’s revenue, rather it makes up more than half of Amazon’s profits. A bit of a nitpick, but it is an important distinction.

For those likes to check the actual numbers like me: AWS made $35.0bn of net sales and $9.2bn of operating income thoughout the year 2019, while Amazon as a whole made $280.5bn of net sales and $14.5bn of operating income (that's before $2.9bn of taxes and non-operating expenses are subtracted) [1]. So AWS accounts for about 12% of net sales and 63% of operating income. AWS is huge but not (yet) that huge to replace the amazon.com itself. Instead I have a knowledge of how far I can run when I'm late versus when I'm really late and need to head to a further stop to catch the express. It's interesting that Amazon's directive did what I'm essentially trying to do at my work. Investing time to cut routine process time. A lean process saves time every time it's used, meaning the more routine a process is, the greater your ROI on Process Improvement. It's very satisfying getting one done, because you know that every time you have to do something in the future it will take less time and probably less effort. In industry this is called Lean Manufacturing and it is known by how you go about it, 5S. Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain. It appears Amazon conducted this on an electronic procedural level as well as in their warehouses

When talking in the "internet" kind of context people tend to use the term API to refer specifically to APIs over HTTP (REST, graphQL and whatnot). But in the strict sense of the word an API is just a group of "actions" that one program makes available for others to use. Over whatever communication protocol. It is also used in practice to refer to local inter-program communication. If you search for WINAPI you will find that it is a bunch of functions, available to be called using the C language calling convention for making things like opening windows, writing text onto them, adding buttons, etc. This is a good example of the term API being used to refer to something that is not related to the internet at all. There is also "microservice architectures" where you make an HTTP API call over the internet and that server makes a bunch of HTTP API calls over a local network to other servers to get the information needed to process your request before sending a response back to you. These internal calls use TCP, HTTP, network connections, etc, just like an HTTP API call over the internet but they aren't actually using the internet. Edit: formatting

Interestingly I get totally different thumbnails for your video everytime I open my subscription feed. I first got a thumbnail with about 7k views and then a thumbnail with about 4k views. This is probably because the KZbin Servers that cache and serve static content like images / thumbnails are not updated simultaneously.

A few notes: - even if the # of likes is abbreviated, one can hover on it and see the full number - views needs stronger validation because it's the currency for getting paid (i.e. there a direct financial impact) - technically what Tom and you talk about are not APIs. API is an interface at the source code level (e.g. libraries). What you guys talk about are interfaces at the web service level, a better term is "communication protocol"... and I know, everyone makes the mistake.

It warms my heart that you still have a Pebble Time Steel. I still wear mine every day, still the best smartwatch ever made IMHO. My wife has a Pebble Time Round in Rose Gold, which is the best ladies smartwatch ever made IMHO. The downfall of Pebble is an absolute tragedy, and no one since has made a smartwatch I want to buy. I was very much looking forward to my Pebble Time 2, before the kickstarter was cancelled and they sold to Fitbit :-(

It is through AWS that Amazon subsidizes all of their other projects. It is interesting because it highlights a problem with the Free Market. What do you do when a single company can undercut literally anyone in any market for as long as they want if they desire? The answer appears to be absolutely nothing.

There was a neat story about sellers on Amazon and their programmable listings: someone noticed the used cost of a book slowly but steadily increasing to infinity. When they looked into it, they found there were two sellers, one pricing the book, say, 2% under the max price and the other one pricing it, say, 5% above the max price. So, there was a stair step effect of the price changing regularly every day and each seller causing the other to adjust, eventually driving the price insanely high.
