I am middle aged so I've had several Nvidia, AMD and ATI before they were bought by AMD, video cards, as well as others before them (Voodoo etc). Recently I had AMD RX 580 that I bought from a miner in the crash of 2019 for $90. I know right, mining crashes, we've already had 2 in 3 years. Anyway that card is still working great, I gave it away even though it was worth $250 at the time about a year ago. Currently I have NVIDIA RTX 1080 Ti 11GB and it plays games well. I'm only on 1080p, but according to Steam's Hardware Monitor so are most of you :-) I haven't had any problems with the AMD or Nvidia cards or their drivers for several years. There is a driver remover application you can download to run on Windows If you have a driver that stuck. I always uninstall the driver before I remove the card. Then I power off the machine. Then remove the card, the driver had just been removed before I powered off. Put in the the next card, switch on, install that driver. I find that uninstalling the driver before removing the hardware makes everything smooth.

As a 6600XT owner I can vouch for how well supported the cards have been and how much performance has improved over the year of owning it... Heck, even RT performance isn't as bad as initial reviews made them out to be, in many cases it is close to the 3060. meanwhile rasterized performance is far better. Then AMD dropped the bomb with OpenGL and DX11 performance improvements that increased performance seriously in slightly older games.... Sure, I had the "black screen of death" issue that made the rounds. For me, AMD's drivers wasn't the fault, it had to do with my ASRock motherboards overclocking tool, it had a unresolved conflict with Radeon Software's overclocking utility. Once the motherboard software was uninstalled and I only used Radeon Software + Ryzen Master the system hasn't skipped a beat. Crashes has been near to non-existent. In case there was any doubts about the whole "dramatic improvement brought by driver optimizations" thing I'd like to point to the 6600(non xt) which I currently own and bought under the impression that it was a 1080p max settings graphics card. A card which was not marketed to support 4k and didn't. Before I updated my drivers I could maybe squeeze out 30-40 fps WITH SETTINGS AUTO OPTIMIZED FOR THE CARD at 4k resolution in doom 2016. I can now play it on ultra settings in 4k at 60fps with FSR off (maximum frame increase by about 5-10 with it on). Maybe not the best benchmarking game but the fact that a $200-$300 card marketed as an entry level 1080p graphics card can support 4k to any capacity should speak plenty to the significance of these optimizations.

What about 1440p? As 4k is a situational resolution (big enough tv/monitor and distance from it), maybe you can let us know how that works out, as a 1440p 120hz monitor is about 150 compared to a 4k 120 at 400+

2060 can do 45-60 FPS @1440 with DLSS + Raytracing high in most newer AAA singleplayers. Totally acceptable if you don't mind DLSS, I personally hate it, at least on 20 series. DLSS 2.2.6 works the best, and I think it almost looks better than native because it actually smooths out the aliasing, strangely enough.

BlackAxe101 Yeah but that is why it is that i would like to have that as a comparison. If somebody claims that a card will be too weak for XYZ in the future then they should also include it in future reviews that deal with XYZ. We now have reviews for 40-30 series, and 30-20 series, but with some long time in between and little overlap of the benchmarks. The 3060 test for shadow of the tom raider was on 1080p "heighest preset, ray traced shadows ultra", here the 4080 and 7900s are with 1440p, "highest preset, DXR On" - are the presets still the same? And what exactly is DXR on? Even with that the resolution is also different. At the very least the last gen 30series should have been included.

@BlackAxe1012 жыл бұрын
@@ABaumstumpf I can agree only comparing four cards is pretty weak when we look at gamers nexus that has a much bigger test sample to compare. As you said they would have to re test the 2060 as they only tested it at 1080, and they already had to cut some of the things they’d like to cover supposedly. So time wasn’t enough to stretch things even farther. Luckily with older cards many people have done extensive testing and you can compare a 2060 to a 4080 pretty easily, or 2060 for XYZ as you say. Then come compare those results here with the 4080 vs 7900 for comparison on how AMD stacks up. Unfortunate the answer isn’t right in one place, but generally speaking with pcs is it ever really?

This was a good review. Best one in a while. There was detailed knowledge about the products. There have been some weak reviews recently where they just open the box and try to wing it, even telling us incorrect information, getting things wrong. For a product review, that's just not fair on the product or us. Their quality control has really suffered. For me, it has affected LTT reputation. If I'm googling a product I'm thinking of buying and a video review comes up from LTT then I know now that I can't trust it to have accurate information. There's a good chance they will just open the box and wing it and get stuff wrong. Seeing this review has shown detailed knowledge, accuracy, investigational depth to find out what's going on. I do find them wearing these tight warm hats inside a bit weird to watch on a video though. I think a shelf or some other stand with a few of their t-shirts and hats behind them would be a better sale but what do I know. LTT is very successful so they obviously know what they're doing!

Yeah, however I would certainly appreciate it if they highlighted the position of the "protagonist" product(s) of the video somehow. It's hard to quickly scan and parse how the new generation performs relative to the older one (5:46 is a good example, with the RX7900 XT in between the 6900 series GPUs), especially now that they "jump around" depending on their placement and it's aggravated by the fast-paced and chart-heavy style that ltt videos have always had. Listening to the host make a point while trying to extrapolate their argument from a complex chart sucks. I either have to pause the video and miss the script, or listen along and miss the data. (I wonder if this is actually positive or negative for the channel considering thet some people have to replay the video or parts of it lol) Data visualization is hard and I'm sure there are more considerable improvements to be made.

With my prior gpu, rtx 2070s, it would swap to gpu decoding on the higher bandwidth codecs but the Radeon just doesn't have a media decoder, at least not visible in task manager. As for the rig being comical, that's a bit of an exaggeration. The gpu is off balance with the cpu, but the cpu can still manage 3440x1440 at roughly 80fps on reasonably heavy titles like god of war, Jedi Fallen Order, Cyberpunk sans raytracing. Not as much as possible, but it's quite usable enough that I don't feel like I'm settling for crap while waiting to renew the cpu and mobo.

One thing I haven't seen anyone talk about so far with this launch is that the XTX (similar to Nvidia's recent launch) is only around 10% more expensive than the XT, but more than 10% faster. Generally the top-spec card is where you lose price efficiency, but it kind of makes the XT (and the 4080) rather pointless compared to the larger cards. People who can afford a $900+ graphics card can likely save up a tiny bit more and just get the bigger card.

They could of gimped it more I guess but the cost is still near the full XTX making it an even more difficult decision.
@XDbored12 жыл бұрын
i think the main difference is that Nvidia is more then happy to disable a good die to sell a low bin product, but AMD wants to sell as many good dies as possible and simply won't produce enough 7900XT if they don't have as many bad dies as customers that want 7900XT, the reason for this behavior is not good guy AMD trying to keep all the good dies safe, the reason is the supply limitation of TSMC wafers AMD wants to make as much money per wafer as possible and producing 7900XT over 7900XTX will only detract from that goal, meanwhile Nvidia has a greater production capacity and will sell anything the customer wants to buy, but they can't make the prices anything other then awful because they have started using TMSC 4nm for the 4080/4090, instead of the Samsung 8LPP they used for the 30 series.

RT performance is right there with a 3090/Ti on the average. Some cases it gets close to a 4080 but that's not the normal. I'm sure with time and drivers they may get a bit more, maybe 5% but that's all I could bank on in good conscience. I say this as a long time AMD user that's also on a 3090 at the moment. Honestly though, as neat as RT is, I'd rather have HDR in a game. Portal RTX is a poo show, Minecraft RTX is meh, Cyberpunk 2077 is cool at night, in the rain, but to me the HDR is more impressive all the time. FYI, a 4090 struggles in RTX Portal. That doesn't make sense for that game considering I got Portal with the Orange Box that came with my 2900XT way back when. Why have a crashy, buggy experience and pull 400 watts or so just to play a game? Anyways, good progress, I'm curious to see the Sapphire Toxic or rumours of a 7950XTX next year.

I don't know if I entirely agree that you should only buy a product based on how it is now, as companies show trends and patterns of behavior on how they treat things. And just as a product can improve, it can also get worse (i.e pixel 2 and OnePlus in general), so a companies ability to support and improve or vice versa should be a consideration.

Had the same issues and fixed it by undervolting it. Theses kinds of cards are pushed to the limits of their power management capabilities so that you have every bit of fps out of the box. So if you just undervolt it a bit, you might lose a 2-3% of performance, but you'll gain stability (lower voltage, transient spikes, temperatures, etc) and remove 50 to a 100w of power consumption. It can be a quite tedious process if you wanna find the best settings, or you can just hit the undervolt button in the Radeon Software, it gave a good starting point in my case 🙌

For a track record think back to 7970ghz edition. That was 3 years of hell and it did age well but by the end of that hell a more refined generational leap happened. Recently I purchased a new PC that actually cost around the same as that top of the line PC from 10+ years ago. Both builds are 1500$ but I did it smarter. On a very mature driver package and with aftermarket vendors. My memory was cheap, mobo relatively cheap, GPU was a 6700xt for 350$, Ryzen 7 5800x3D, case 100$, and the most unbelievable boon in the last 10 years gen 4 1tb of ssd storage from a Samsung 940 evo nvme for around 80$. This is absolutely insane to me how far this scaled even with inflation differences in the last 10 years. What would be adjusted for inflation would be a BUDGET build is still noticeable generationally improved. A 6700xt performs 2-3x better at 1080p and it's the first sub 400$ GPU that is capable of high fps 1440p gaming. My basic takeaway from being in and out of the computer scene is the best value always comes at the end of a generation with AMD and not being an early adopter.

Is pretty crazy the price drops that the 7900XT is having, I saw one locally for $750, though the 6950XT is also lower than $650, is great to see no doubt.

I’ve seen the 7900xt go for 730 at micro center quite a few times. As I game with 4K and on an ultra wide I think for the first time in 12 years I’m going to give Amd a try again, nvidia is just not it with these underpowered overpriced cards this gen. Although the 4090 isn’t a bad price for what you get top of the line I just can’t justify it. Or any of the sub 4080 cards. 4070 ti lookin more like a 4060 with an $800 price tag. No thanks gonna grab a 7900xt next sale day

Until we have a real CUDA/Tensor Core replacements, as well as 1st party VR support (LiquidVR is basically unused) I'm basically stuck on NVidia for both my gaming and workstation builds. Currently running a 3900X/3090 and a 12900k/3080

As a gamer who also works with AI (Meaning stuff like training neural networks), it would be great to see some direct benchmarks and comparisons of e.g training a neural net with TensorFlow. These applications (depending on the structure of the network) rely heavily on GPGPU, and a faster card can mean faster iteration and better results when I'm working on my own hardware. In fact, GPGPU support and performance is the main sticking point for me right now, as I want to get away from Nvidia's terrible Linux drivers but don't want to just exchange it for bad OpenCL support and poor AI performance. I love the rest of the wide and detailed benchmarks though!

Isn't trying to use AI and offloading the work to an AMD GPU pretty bad at the moment? Because it's not supported very well compared to CUDA.
@TheHighborn2 жыл бұрын
well, if it takes more memory than the 4080 has on board, it's a simple choice. If not, bechemarks warranted
@brytonmassie2 жыл бұрын
@@TheHighborn My guess is NVIDIA didn't want to blur the lines between their Quadro and G-Force cards by giving it too much memory, same thing with Linux support, it seems like Nvidia is just generally more anti-consumer, although any of these billion/trillion dollar companies if given an inch will take a mile.

There is no need to benchmark. AI is dominated by Nvidia. It's not even close
@resresres12 жыл бұрын
@@anonanon7368 yeah... Nvidia's CUDA is just so much easier to work with when making AI programs compared to AMD's ROCm. Although it's kind of a catch-22, if there was no CUDA, then ROCm would be much better supported.

Dang, I was hoping for better ray tracing performance from AMD. Still, can't wait to see the midrange cards' performances.
